Spotlight: Nicholas Lindenmeyer
NICHOLAS LINDENMEYER
Arcola basketball
Height 6-3
Position and Year: forward/center, senior
Mike Monahan: How long have you been playing basketball?
Nicholas Lindenmeyer: I played Biddy Basketball and fifth and sixth grade basketball.
MM: I know you are in football and baseball also. How long have you played those sports?
NL: Since my freshman year
MM: What is your favorite sport?
NL: Basketball
MM: What has been the highlight for you in basketball (Lindenmeyer was a second-team all-LOVC player last year and earned the athlete of the week in the JG-TC twice) so far?
NL: The conference tournament championship last year (a 60-58 win in a game the Purple Riders trailed by 14 with 9:43 left). It was real exciting. Making to the regional championship game against Lovington was also fun (lost 70-54).
MM: What is your goal this year?
NL: Compete for the conference championship and try and get to the regional championship and win it this time (something that has not been done since 1989).
MM: Have you always been a forward/center (Lindenmeyer averaged a team-high 8.6 rebounds and 10.8 points per game last year)?
NL: Yes, I have not got to play guard (he said laughing)
MM: What positions do you play in baseball?
NL: first base and I pitch some
MM: Your dad (Andy) and his three brothers (Mike, Mitch and Jeff) all graduated from Arcola and all played basketball as well as football. How much do you talk about sports?
NL: All of the time especially with my dad
MM: You’re too young to have seen your uncle Jeff (a 1994 Arcola grad, who scored over 1,000 points) play at the University of Illinois. Do you talk to him some about basketball?
NL: He told me he played some at the U of I. I talk to him when he is home and not just about basketball
MM: Who has helped you the most in becoming the basketball player you are now?
NL: Probably my dad (a 1984 Arcola grad). We come in and work out on weekends and do some shooting.
MM: What is your favorite subject and what are your plans for next year?
NL: Math. I want to attend a university and maybe major in business. So this is it for sports.
MM: I assume growing up you had heard of your coach and Arcola’s all-time leading scorer Chad Graves. What is it like having him as a coach now?
NL: I knew of him growing up, but didn’t know him personally. It is good to have him as a coach and it is fun.
MM: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
NL: Yes, Brett, a sophomore (a 5-10 guard) and Blake, who is in fifth grade
MM: Do you try and teach them a few things?
NL: Yes, along with beating them (he said with a big smile)
MM: What has been your highlight in baseball so far?
NL: I hit my first home run last year
MM: You are a two-time all-Little Okaw Valley Conference lineman (second team offensive guard as a junior and second team defensive lineman this season). What was the highlight for you?
NL: My sophomore year I really liked the Jacksonville Routt game. It was really memorable (Arcola scored 12 points in the final one minute, 33 second for a 26-24 IHSA Class 1A second round victory over No. 3 Jacksonville Routt at Jacksonville)
