Martinsville nips Beecher City; Tri-County wins



TOLEDO -- The annual Cumberland boys’ basketball Thanksgiving Tournament began play Monday with a thriller as Martinsville nipped Beecher City 66-64.

Jared Higginbotham netted 38 points to lead Martinsville. Higginbotham scored 14 points in the second quarter and 12 in the fourth quarter.

The game was deadlocked at 45 after three quarters. Beecher City led 17-12 after the opening quarter before the Bluestreaks took a 33-30 lead into the locker room.

Martinsville was 15-of-24 from the free throw line, while the Eagles were 10-of-20.

Newton won the other game 57-44.

The tournament is to continue today with the Bluestreaks taking on Newton at 6 p.m. followed by Cumberland playing Beecher City.

 Tri-County opens with a win

OAKLAND -- The Tri-County boys' basketball Thanksgiving Tournament began Monday and the Titans delighted their fans with a 66-33 win over Lovington.

Three Tri-County players finished in double digits with Cody Meyer leadinig the way with 18 followed by Doug Findley with 15 and Brandon Wilson with 14.

Tri-County jumped out to a 26-6 lead aftter the opening quarter as Meyer had 110 points and Wilson seven. The Titans led 40-14 at the half.

Tri-County, 1-0, is to play Georgetown-Ridge Farm at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the tournament.

In the other game Salt Fork beat Georgetown-Ridge Farm 62-47. The tournament is to continue today with Judah Christian taking on Salt Fork at 6:15 p.m. followed by Lovington playing Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
