EIU ranked 19th by Sports Network heading into playoffs

Awaiting today’s playoff pairings, Eastern Illinois fell to 19th in the Sports Network’s final regular season Football Championship Subdivision rankings.

Southern Illinois, a strong possibility as the Panthers’ first-round postseason opponent, remained No. 1 in the poll of media announced Sunday morning.

EIU was 14th in last week’s rankings before losing its regular season finale to Tennessee State 21-10 on Thursday.

The Panthers are still assured of a berth in the playoffs that start this week thanks to Eastern Kentucky’s Saturday loss to Jacksonville State leaving EIU as the league champion.

The NCAA is to announce its FCS playoff pairings at 2 p.m. today on ESPN News.

The public is invited to join the Eastern football team when it watches the selection show today at EIU’s Student Recreation Center adjacent to Lantz Arena. Doors open at 1:45 p.m.
