LETTER: Republicans playing same old record

TERRENCE McGUIRE, Stewardson

After watching the health fiasco on TV this weekend, it appears to me the Republicans are the biggest cry babies and whiners of all time.

The Republicans are the same party they were 100 years ago. Big tax cuts for the rich, more tax money for their cronies who beat down the working class, pretending to care about the average folks.

Complaining President Obama isn’t doing enough for their country. It took eight years for the dumbest president this country has ever seen in my life time. I thought Reagan dug us into a huge hole but Bush Junior is by far the best. And now, less than a year into his presidential term, the Republicans want President Obama to create a miracle.

This country has let the medical insurers without anti-trust laws regulating them, raise rates when ever they feel like it, and decide who they’re going to insure. The Republicans let the banks and Wall Street regulate themselves and now look where we ended up.

The government has to get involved to some degree, to keep these huge companies in check,

The Republicans as once stated by a Senator from Texas on national TV, 90 percent of the people in the country should work for the upper 10 percent elite. Of course, that Senator was quickly relieved of his duties after Enron hit the skids.

I listened for hours and the Republicans including ours, said the same thing over and over like robots going in a circle.

Now the bill goes to the Senate, where the Republicans have said it will die there.

Well I hope the Democrats pull out the plugs and pass it, not because of the parties, but for the people who will die because that cannot pay for healthcare.

Remember the CEO of the largest health care company who makes $147,000 an hour is ready to raise the rates on the ones who can afford them if this bill fails.

Let’s get behind President Obama’s idea because whatever happens, it will still be better than anything a Republican could put on our plates.

TERRENCE McGUIRE

Problem is Terrence, he promised a miracle.

What happened to closing Gitmo, getting out of Iraq and Afganistan. How about how he promised to get tough with Iran and North Korea. He won't have to worry about Iran though, Israel will take care of them. After 9 months in office , his approval rating is 45% and Congress is 14%. They have no one to blame this time, they have control of the senate and house, with 60 votes in the senate. "

Oh give us a break! 45% my a--! He NEVER promised miracles and you know it. He promised to TRY to make change but always reminded us that he needed US to help him change Washington. Exactly what have YOU done to HELP him besides complain that he's not provided miracles for you to see?

This man has taken on two wars, the worst recession since the great depression, a pandemic flu, a messed up Katrina recovery, a new supreme court justice, a new health care reform bill, North Korea and Iran testing their nuclear or missiles ---every bit of it the Bush/Cheney team left behind over an 8 year period....and NOW you complain that Obama's not cured the world of the Bush/Cheney mess?

To top that all off, because of people like you and others accusing Obama of everything but nuking America (that will be next I'm sure) -- the secret service and intelligence say that the threat of harm toward this man and his family is 400% higher than any other president in our history.

You want a miracle? It will be a miracle if he survives till 2012 with all these threats from extreme right wingers wanting to take away the president's children's father and his wife's husband with prayers of theirs. "

Well hell, anyone who didn't think that was going to happen is a boob.

You want a miracle? It will be a miracle if he survives till 2012 with all these threats from extreme right wingers wanting to take away the president's children's father and his wife's husband with prayers of theirs.

Wait just a minute butthead, I have NEVER, WILL NEVER advocate violence against a President of the United States, EVER. I may not like what he is doing, but he is MY President. Anyone who says crap like you claim needs to be put away, there is no place in THIS country for that.
You're so good on the web, (with your website and all) show us EXACTLY where someone wanted to TAKE AWAY him and his wife.

You're right RDCENT, they don't need any help, but they are very much afraid to do what they say, especially with an election coming up. Obama won't even close Gitmo, like he promised. Oh, and moving the trial of the terrorist accused of mastermining the 911 attacks to New York, $75 million extra for us taxpayers to foot the bill for, just for security alone, and Obama's prediction last week, we are confident he will be convicted. Confident is not good enough for this person, the odds of conviction in liberal New York, well, good luck.

Oh, and by the way coonbug, I voted for Obama. "

Many economists believe that Obama's
actions actually saved us from going over the cliff into another Great Depression; so why should people expect an overnight recovery. Remember (I do, for I was there) how long it took to recover from THE Great Depression. "

" Actually, they're NOT playing the same old record.

All day today we saw Republicans ranting about the health care program, ranting about its cost and frequently (particularly Enzi) lying about facts.

HOWEVER, those of us with long memories recall the Medicare D battle whens the
Republicans were riding high. The House said they would not spend more than ... 800 Million I think ... and Bush told the medical actuary who knew it would cost more than their limit he would be fired if he told the truth.

And we all recall they got the deciding voter in the back room, threatened him with the political destruction of his son if he didn't vote right. Also we recall when the rules were violated by extending the 15 minutes for voting to about 3 hours and -- talk about backrooms -- Delay demanded the CSPAN cameras be turned off so the public could not see what was going on.

So in one sense Republicans are doing the same things -- but now AGAINST everything, just the opposite of their stand when they were in control.

Note also during the Bush years, NEVER
did we hear a Republican moaning about the deficit; now they claim it's criminal. "

This fact can be witnessed by Obama's percipitously falling poll numbers, and the rise of Sarah Palin.

After all the vitriol spewed at SP, and she still bounces back, it must be tough on the socilaist democrats to know that Sarah Palin has more cahones than anyone in democratic party!

What a humiliation it must be to the socialist democrats, having put such an esteemed, credentialed, member of the aristocratic socially elite, democratic party in the Whitehouse, only to be bested in the polls by Sarah Palin, a fishing, snow mobile riding, gun-toting, three time college drop-out with a B.S. degree in Communication from the University of Idaho!

Six term Congressman Dennis Moore, (D), Kansas 3rd District, announced that he will not seek reelection.

A member of the Blue Dog Coalition, Moore WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TARGETS OF THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT when hundreds demonstrated at his Overland Park, Kansas office in mid-February, 2009.

From: The Kansas City Star

U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, a Democrat who confounded the GOP by winning six consecutive elections in a heavily Republican district, will not seek re-election next year, key Democrats said Sunday.

Moore, who won his last race 56 to 40 percent over Jordan, was in trouble because of his support for many of President Barack Obamas initiatives, including the stimulus package and health care reform.

Hes very vulnerable, OHara said. Hes become a voting machine for the liberal wing of the Democratic Party.

Who really gives a **** that another politician is going to make millions from some silly book.

Isnt that a tradition in this country- normal people lining up to buy the fictional stories and tales from the political elite (Bill, Hilary, Obama, etc.)?

Instead, lets ask what the folks on this site think are crazier-

Ill start:

Billions in stimulus that doesnt stimulate comes to mind. . . . .

How about monetizing our debt- you know the fed busily buying up treasury bonds with worthless printed pieces of paper because nobody else in the world wants them.

My favorite is that crazy dummy-crats are more worried about an x-governor from Alaska than the plummeting support all across the country for their crooks in charge and the congressional elections are less than a year away- now that is crazy wouldnt you say tQ?

Thats just a few that are crazier tQ. . . . "

Questions for the Question. When was the last office you were voted in by your peers? Are you more mad about her popularity being higher then the President, or her book outselling Hilliary's within a shorter time span? Are you really that scared of her that all you can do is name call, but demand respect for the President (which should be given) to both)? Are you so hypocritical that you will post about her book containing lies, but not Obamas, or that Hilliary stole the title of her book? Do you hate her because she looks so much better then what the left has, Pelosi, and Hillary? Are you intimidated by just beautiful women, or women in general? Just a few questions for you. "

Harry are we using new math again?
"An American politician who served as Governor of Alaska from 2006 until her resignation in 2009."- Wikipedia Three years is not half way, 4/2=2 not 3.

Now would you like to compare how many years she was a public server against the President? You know he was only a senator for 3 years also right?
Obama:
- U.S. Senate January 3, 2005 November 16, 2008
- Member of Illinois Senate January 8, 1997 November 4, 2004

Palin:
- City Council for Wasilla 1992 - 1996
- Mayor of Wasilla 1996 2002
- Chairperson of the Alaska Oil and Gas
Conservation Commission 2003 2004
- Governor of Alaska 2006 2009

Lets look at the totals and see who has more experience
Obama - 11 years
Palin - 17 years

Take out her governorship and she still has more experience serving the people then the President. "

So would I, but then of course Obama would have to have his TelePrompter. Do you think when his reign is over he will get a sponsor deal? Obama did nothing while he was in office. He cosponsored bills, in name only. He helped run Illinois' economy in the ground. I see her a a possible candidate, and the name calling of the left shows their fear of her. If they were not then they would not bring her up so much. They would just ignore her, and let her get the nomination. If the left is not scared of her, then why are they trying so hard to bury her now? Why not let her get the nomination then bury her? Maybe it has something to do with Congress having the lowest approval rating of any Congress? Maybe it has to do with the polls showing the people believe the country is going in the wrong direction? Maybe it has to do with the Presidents falling numbers? Maybe it's just that the left is trying to get the people not to notice what they are up to? I see a better future in the next election, and by the way Pelosi and Reid are trying to push their agendas through I think they see it too. "

Maybe so, but I'll bet that unlike Palin he would actually answer the questions put to him. Gwen Ifill, the moderator for the VP Debate, should have called Palin out for not answering any questions. If you saw it, you know that she merely repeated her bumper sticker type talking points.

Perhaps the reason she is being targeted is because she appears to be the leading Republican at this time. Given her lack of understanding of most substantive issues, I find that rather amusing, but looking at the fact that the GOP is in total disarray, I'm not too surprised.

To say that the Dems "fear" here is comical, they want her to stay in front.

Those that fear her are the Huckabee's and the Romney's. They have to be scratching their heads wondering what to do.

Again, I hope she actually gets the nomination, although I don't think she would fair very well in any sort of a debate, even with her fellow Republicans. Yes, she has a big following, but for the most part they seem to be the disgruntled and angry people who feel left out. Palin may not very bright or worldly, but she knows how to milk her fans. And of course she attracts those types that shouted "kill him" when Obamas name was mentioned.

Back to your teleprompter barbs, are you aware that Reagan's staff had to make seating charts for him because he couldn't remember his own cabinets members names?

And as far as oratorical skills go, are you seriously suggesting that Palin comes even close to Obama? The woman has a high school level vocabulary, at best. While she may appeal to the uneducated and angry tea party types, I seriously doubt she would do very well if she decides to go for it. Using George Will's words, she is a oversimplifier at best. I predict she will set your party back, even worse than Newt Gingrich did. She has already managed to dumb her party down to it's lowest level in years and will no doubt take it even lower before she's through. If she fails to get the GOP bid, look for Palin to bolt and try a third party move. Guess which party she would take the most votes from? Yeah, go Sarah. lol! "

" The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, its about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here.

1- Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governors office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republicans Corrupt Bastards Club (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits. The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing la la la la (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar. But while you're thinking, I'll continue.

2- Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So, she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called ACES. Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them don't let the door hit you in the stern on your way out. They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.

3- The other thing she did when she walked into the governors office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as pork. She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the when-hell-freezes-over stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, well pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governors jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor's cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning, I imagine, that she's packing heat herself). I'm still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.

4- Now, even with her much-ridiculed gosh and golly mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.

5- For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. This summer, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.

6- President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewables by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona . Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But thats just a cover-up. I'm still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I wont be holding my breath.

By the way, she was content to to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn't let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.

As we have been saying for a long time, Sarah Palin was an incredibly effective Governor, and a true servant of the people. The kind of woman who isn't afraid of whatever challenge that faces her. As she has shown in the past few weeks, she is more than ready to take on big government, like she has big oil. And if Sarah Palin could tame Exxon-Mobil, I'm sure she will make quick work of D.C.!

BTW, even though she has given Exxon-Mobil absolute fits, they were more than happy to sign on as a partner in the Trans-Canada natural gas pipeline, her crowning achievement as Governor, that Dewey mentions in his letter.

People, like myself, who have followed Sarah for some time, understand the greatness of this woman. Sarah Palin is an American leader who has what is sorely needed today: The ability to get things done, good things for the people.

Make no doubt about it; as Bennis and Manus, and Albrecht, point out, Palin is a tranformative leader.

You can tell by the demonization projected by her detractors upon her.

She's 'it', a natural, charismatic leader people are automatically drawn toward with leadership skills, and leadership skills not found in certain 'community organizers.'

She provides vision for the disaffected majority, unlike Obama who provides/provided vision to the disaffected minority interests.

She's draws people from the bottom to action. From 'the bottom' of enterprises, organizations, and movements are where solutions are found. Very seldom do solutions come from the top-down. Many American companies found this out, some too late, from the late '70's to the early '90's as foreign competitors overtook their markets.

Palin's 'I'm just like you' persona communicates shared meaning toward the vision. She sets direction and plays by her own rules, not allowing her detractors to define her. She's defining a new course.

So make no mistake. The democrats are scared of Palin's 'IT' factor, and as usual, they can't figure out why.

They're blinded by their elitist, top-down leadership mentality...just like those American companies of the '80's and '90's....

In Going Rogue, Palin mentions none of Wooten's military record, but cites many charges that were brought against Wooten that were subsequently dismissed. She contends that there were "ten different" citizen complaints field against Wooten--without acknowledging that all of them were filed by members of her family or close friends. Yep, that dumb old Bush was only a C student and graduated from Yale.

Third, when one is a president, it is required that he travel -- whether on business OR PLEASURE -- in secure circumstances and that he be surrounded by communications in case a national

Fourth, re the "date night" in New York, did you EVER sneer at GWB's trip to his so-called ranch in Texas?? When a president travels, whether the New York or Texas, the tremendous cost is the travel and security, not the expense of the dinner.

Yes, I've been to New York -- several
times, and it is expensive; yes I've paid $100/plate for dinner (in the cheap places). BUT as I'm trying to beat into your head, the expense for presidential travel is NOT the date,
it's the travel and all the crowd that necessarily goes with it, NOT the "date".

And if you don't care to pursue the matter any further, that view will suffice. George W. Bin Laden was "unquestionably" within reach of U.S. troops in the mountains of Tora Bora when American military leaders made the crucial and costly decision not to pursue him with massive force, a new Senate report says.
The report claims that the failure to kill or capture bin Laden at his most vulnerable in December 2001 has had lasting consequences beyond the fate of one man. Bin Laden's escape laid the foundation for today's reinvigorated Afghan insurgency and inflamed the internal strife now endangering Pakistan, it says.
Staff members for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's Democratic majority prepared the report, and it says, "Removing the al-Qaida leader from the battlefield eight years ago would not have eliminated the worldwide extremist threat. But the decisions that opened the door for his escape to Pakistan allowed bin Laden to emerge as a potent symbolic figure who continues to attract a steady flow of money and inspire fanatics worldwide. The failure to finish the job represents a lost opportunity that forever altered the course of the conflict in Afghanistan and the future of international terrorism."
George W. Bush: the corrupt historic failure who keeps on giving. Remember how the little creep sneered that he "wasn't concerned" about bin Laden, after he let bin Laden escape? "

" Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Carl Levin insisted on Sunday that, had it not been for the Bush administration's failure to catch Osama bin Laden in 2001, there likely would be no debate about sending more troops to Afghanistan.
"This has been kind of well known for some time," Levin said. "We took our eye off the ball instead of moving in on him at Tora Bora, the previous administration decided to move its forces to Iraq. It was a mistake then. I think this report of the Foreign Relations committee just sort of reinforces that."
Republicans always brag about war in their ugly, bloodthirsty way. They're always quick to push for war and more war. It's funny that they're so lousy at actually waging war, isn't it? "

Republicans do things like rush to war and award themselves no bid contracts for the selfish purpose of war profiteering.

Mamie Eisenhower: 1 - paid out of President's salary
Jackie Kennedy: 1
Rosalin Carter: 1
Barbara Bush: 1
Hillary Clinton: 3
Laura Bush: 1
Michele Obama: 22
You may notice a drastic difference when you get to Michele Obama. I guess she is taking all this "unprecedented" business seriously. The total price tag from these personal staff members comes to a whopping $1,591,200.00 and that does not cover her hair stylist or make-up artist. Source: CanadaFreePress

"Now would you like to compare how many years she was a public server against the President? You know he was only a senator for 3 years also right?
Obama:
- U.S. Senate January 3, 2005 November 16, 2008
- Member of Illinois Senate January 8, 1997 November 4, 2004

Palin:
- City Council for Wasilla 1992 - 1996
- Mayor of Wasilla 1996 2002
- Chairperson of the Alaska Oil and Gas
Conservation Commission 2003 2004
- Governor of Alaska 2006 2009

Lets look at the totals and see who has more experience
Obama - 11 years
Palin - 17 years

Take out her governorship and she still has more experience serving the people then the President. "

...You mean take out the governorship that she resigned from? I would take a Senator over someone who was a Mayor of an Alaskan town, oh and her city council membership any day of the year. Good logic! "

Oh, by the way, I'm still waiting for those answers as to what path this administration is leading this country down with its record spending, record deficits, record unemployment, takeover of banking, car industry and now health care. Still waiting to be enlightened about how that's all going to work out. In the meantime, enjoy these FACTS (oops I seem to be shouting again which is just another of the stupid criticisms designed to deflect attention from the other FACT that you have no answers):
from CBS News on Nov. 12.(CBS) "Even before President Obama sets foot on Air Force One tomorrow [today- ST] to begin a 9-day trip to Asia, he has traveled to more countries in his first year in office than any of his predecessors.

Since taking office, he has made 7 foreign trips and visited 16 countries, 3 of them twice.

The Asia trip which takes him to Japan, Singapore, China and South Korea will bring his total to 8 foreign trips and 20 countries.

The only other president to come close to Mr. Obamas first-year-in-office globe-trotting numbers is President George H. W. Bush, who took 7 foreign trips to 14 countries.

His son traveled abroad five times to 11 countries during his first year. President Clinton only did 2 foreign trips to 3 nations in 1993.

[...]

This Asia trip is not Mr. Obamas last foreign foray of the year. Hes scheduled to travel to Oslo next month to accept the Nobel Peace Prize he was awarded in October. And he may stay or head back to Scandinavia to attend the United Nations Conference on Climate Change a few days later.

It will further secure his record as having done more foreign travel than any U.S. president to date." "

Unlike your hero Reagan, Obama doesn't always rely on a teleprompter...."

I never said he did not have a good speaking voice or now how to speak eloquently. As for him not always relying on a teleprompter, you have to be kidding me. Remember as reported in papers around the world how Ireland Prime Minister started reading Obama's speech word for word at a White House meeting. This was were he got up and actually read the prompter and tanked himself for coming to the dinner. Remember the dumbfounded look on his face when the teleprompter fell and broke. Heck, even his own VP made fun of him for that one. Luckily he had a second prompter, "To finish his 11-minute remarks calling for a new policy toward the nation's cities and metropolitan areas, he used notes and the remaining teleprompter screen." - USA Today. Remember him telling us how he was going to campaign in all "57 states" of the country. How about the "bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor". How about not being able to pronounce Orion right after being given a speech by the "Orion Energy Systems". He pronounced it "our-ee-on". Now I am not saying other Presidents didn't mess up, look at Ford, but to make it sound as if he never does, or that he doesn't depend on a teleprompter is a joke. As for former President Reagan's seating chart, how about some citation. All I could find is that he like other Presidents have a seating chart regarding the press. "
