LETTER: Keep the Rosebud alive and blooming

BRENDA AND DONALD HALL, Mattoon

We live in Mattoon but my husband and I are so very sorry that the Rosebud Theatre in Effingham is closing.

This theatre is something that this area needs. We love to go to see live entertainers and were amazed at the variety that the Rosebud had.

Now people have to travel to other areas farther away which some older people do not like to do and that takes business away from the Effingham area too. Many people travel to Effingham to eat at one of the many fine restaurants before attending the performance so we are sure this helped also.

We have friends from all over the U.S. and they have heard how progressive that Effingham is and now we feel it is a step backward. Effingham has always seemed to be moving upward, not stagnant as so many are right now.

We understand that economic times are tough but we do think that they have a lot of support for the Rosebud and surely there are some avenues available to save this valuable asset to their community and the surrounding area.

We know many people that feel as we do. Let’s keep the Rosebud alive and ever blooming!

" Did you help support LITTLE THEATRE ON THE SQUARE in Sullivan so it would progress? I kept my honors there and we ate locally and kept the bucks in area and not Effingham, and less time getting home besides.

I don't want to go where would pull such a scam on those buying seasonal tickets as did either.

The horse is dead. Grind it up for hamburger. "

Mama says, correct me if I'm wrong, but, I believe Effingham is 7 miles farther away than Sullivan. Neither are in Coles County, so that puts both in the area.

Oh man, here we go again, I AGREE, Taylorville couldn't make it last, what makes Effingham think it could? "

" We live country area closer to Sullivan so more convenient. Also, friends and relatives have parts at LITTLE THEATRE.
We are on Coles border, but just few miles from Sullivan. From our home, Effingham is farther. Depends on where one lives. We have friends who owned the restaurants and put money in LITTLE THEATRE. AND the tickets not so expensive and saw a lot of good productions. Even met some actors/actresses as well. I enjoyed meeting ones who were on soap operas, and some from tv shows. THE GOOD OLE DAYS.
