Moultrie health dept. offers flu shots Monday

SULLIVAN — The Moultrie County Health Department recently received additional shipments of injectable and FluMist H1N1 vaccine.

Current supplies allow the Moultrie health department to offer H1N1 immunizations to people in the following categories:

- Children and individuals ages 2 to 24 years.

- People age 25-64 with chronic health conditions.

- Pregnant women (prescription required).

-Individuals living with or providing care for infants under the age of 6 months.

- Health Care and Emergency Service Personnel.

All H1N1 vaccine provided through the Moultrie County Health Department is free of charge.

Individuals under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent of legal guardian when receiving the vaccine.

H1N1 immunization clinics will be held at the Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library in Sullivan on the following dates: Monday,  3:30-6:30 p.m., Dec. 2, 3:30-6:30 p.m., and Dec. 5, 9 a.m.-noon.

No appointment is necessary, and people will be served on a first-come basis. Additional clinics will be scheduled throughout Moultrie County in the coming weeks.

People in the target populations who are unable to attend the above clinics should contact the health department for alternative arrangements.

Due to the slow shipment of H1N1 vaccine and CDC requirements, only people in the above categories will be vaccinated.

Additional vaccine is expected, and will be offered to infants aged 6 months-2 years, as well as healthy people aged 25-64 years and individuals aged 65 years and older as soon as supplies and/or CDC guidelines allow.

Public notices regarding vaccine availability will be made to the area media, medical providers, churches and schools.

For more information, contact the Moultrie County Health Department at 728-4114.

Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
