Cumberland girls down North Clay 41-38
LOUISVILLE -- Macy Shupe scored 14 points and Kennedy Gabel scored 13 helping Cumberland defeat North Clay 41-38 Monday night in the Lady Pirates’ season opener.
Gabel and Shupe led with five rebounds apiece, and Gabel also had five steals.
Cumberland is to play at Marshall on Monday.

Lady Riders drop opener
ARCOLA -- Argenta-Oreana outscored Arcola in every quarter en route to 38-24 non-conference girls’ basketball win at Nancy Stiff Gymnasium Monday. It was the season-opener for both squads.
Katy Karmazinas led Arcola with nine points, while Sarah Schneider was tops in rebounds with six. Cara Edwards, a freshman, and Gretchen Stenger had two steals each.
“We are a very inexperience team at the varsity level,” said Arcola coach Nancy Stiff. “This team will be a work in progress all season long. I was proud of the girls’ effort tonight. We had a solid rebounding game.”
Arcola, 0-1, is to travel to Neoga Thursday for another non-conference contest.

Arthur-Lovington falls
ARTHUR -- In a non-conference girls’ basketball season opener Arthur-Lovington led Meridian 26-23 at the half, but the Lady Hawks outscored Arthur 36-14 in the second half to spoil Arthur coach Jenni Marner’s debut 59-40 Monday.
Freshman Ashley Tabb led the Lancers with 10 points, while Megan Brough and Rosayln Plank pulled down a team-high eight rebounds each. Tabb also had a team-high four steals in the loss.
“Overall I was very pleased with our effort,” said Marner.
Arthur, 0-1-, is to travel to Casey-Westfield Thursday for a non-conference contest.

Neoga loses at Central A&M
MOWEAQUA -- Neoga’s comeback bid fell short in Monday’s 47-41 non-conference girls’ basketball loss at Central A&M.
Sophomore Erica Hoetze had 13 points, 14 rebounds and four steals and Olivia Deters had seven rebounds for Neoga, which is to play host to Arcola on Thursday.

Okaw Valley nips Shelbyville
BETHANY -- Okaw Valley led 41-33 after three quarters and held on to win a non-conference girls’ basketball game over Shelbyville 57-54 Monday.
Jasmine Pierce led the Lady Timberwolves with 27 points, while Ariel Rothrock added 10 points. Pierce was 7-of-10 from the free throw line in the fourth to help preserve the win.
Shelbyville was led in scoring by Whitney Lawrence with 13 points, while Cinnae Marlin had 12 and Amanda Finley had 11 points respectively.
Okaw Valley, 1-0, is to play host to Sullivan Thursday, while Shelbyville, 0-1, is to travel to Brownstown.
