LETTER: Obama dismantling free-market system

LEROY HANKINS, Mattoon

Learning Christianity through Jeremiah Wright; political savvy through the Chicago Daley Machine; civics from Karl Marx, Obama was able and willing to use the “Loony Left,” Move-on.org; the ACLU and George Soros. Obama had only to add ACORN to make his campaign unbeatable.

Hatred for the military among the Leftists and most of our universities ignores the fact that, today, we would all be speaking Japanese or Nazi German if it weren’t for the military. The fact that Obama is largely controlled by big huge UnAmerican electorate might be the reason he is so timid about making military decisions. One thing seems clear: Our enemies don’t respect him, much less fear him. He is inviting another 9/11 attack from our enemies.

Free markets gave us everything from the ball-point pen to space exploration yet Obama’s czars want to dismantle it and make us a Marxist/Socialist nation. Obama’s “Redistribution of Wealth” is socialistic.

Two ways we might be driven to our knees: Deliberate bankruptcy by Obama or recognition of our real source of personal and national deliverance. See 2 Chronicles 7:14. We have abandoned our true source of greatness and security.

LEROY HANKINS

" Why would someone call over half of this country "UnAmerican"? We have no idea of what is going on behind the scenes involving the decisions of what to do with the Afghanistan mess, Leroy. Simply to paint is as timidity on the part of the president points to your ignorance. The strutting little cowboy is gone, and the American public voted for someone who does not bow to the whims of the Military Industrial Complex. Perhaps if Bush had allowed our military to stay in Afghanistan and finish the job we wouldn't have this problem today. "

" Ok Leroy time to pick you apart. One I am going to prove Obama isn't even close to socialism. Two where do you see the redistribution of wealth????????????????

Now under a true socialist economy we wouldn't have evil Wal-Mart, we wouldn't have privatized banks, the richest people in this country wouldn't have their money. Just because we bailed out a couple of companies doesn't make it a government takeover (does anyone remember Bush's bailout of the banking system?). The only "socialistic" thing he has done is the health care bill which a public optition will increase competition.
Also seems like someones forgetting that the Soviets made it to space before we did(even though just like china they weren't true communism).

Lets also discuss the military aspect. So if Obama was anti-military then why did he increase the military budget to even higher levels than the Bush and Reagan years.

Also Mr. Wright is right white people do control the world, at the very least this country. How is that offensive?? Lets look at right wing pastors that stated "people in New Orleans deserved to die because they were "sinful". Too me thats evil. Also the tenets of most all major religions would be counter to the ideals of capitalism. Because capitalism only works with greed, without it we have a socialistic society. Mark 10 : 25 "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

As I have said, I voted for Obama but I don't trust him. Yet I don't trust any politician, but I felt I must silence those that critize Obama and just don't know what they are talking about. FYI I love Karl Marx, oh yeah and Engles, and Emma Goldman, Peter Kroptkin, Noam Chomsky. So I AM THE RADICAL LEFT THAT YOU PEOPLE KEEP ON FEARING. "

The American dream is driven by the desire give your family a better life.
A life free of oppression which all of us on this Veterans days should bow our heads to those who have fallen to preserve it and repledge to uphold it just as Leroy taught me to do forty three years ago at Columbian school.
Thanks Leroy.
I heard Timothy Gieghnter say the other day that the economy would revive when the confidence of the people and the investor returns to the market. How soon will that happen when you have ole' Pork Barrel Pelosi, Hat Trick Harry Reid and Bend me over Barnie Frank in charge of the check book? Who needs zcars when you have brains like that around?
Let's check the resume of the people that want to run our banks, insurance companies, auto makers and health care system. Mmmm, Amtrak- Broke, Postal system-Broke, Social Security-Broke, Medicare-Broke, Fannie Mea and Freddie Mac-Broke not mention these same people borrow more money than they take in year after year. I don't think so!
How could be that the average federal goverment job in salary and benifits cost tax payers over $122,000 a year when the average private sector job is less than $60,000 a year? Give the power and the money back to the people. Sell everything that is broke to Warren Buffett he will make a profit or shut it down. "

It's now an ologarchy that is ran by the richest 5% of the country which is now corporations and not people. Until we all remove the rose colored glasses and see DC in full view, nothing's going to change. Just changing the Dems and Reps does nothing but move the deck chairs on the Titanic. "

" The Democrat's war on capitalism is just getting started. Hidden in the insane and Unconstitutional Pelosi government health care takeover bill is a 69% increase of the capital gains tax and a stealth provision to undermine state's abilities to limit attorney's fees or impose caps on damages.

Coupled with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts, increased size of and spending by government, reduced purchasing power of the dollar, higher food prices, higher fuel prices, and an unemployment rate that is likely to top 12%, and it's obvious to anyone who understands free market economics that the Democrats and the Obama administration are either imbeciles or they are intentionally harming our country's economy.

The fascist left's drive toward socialism, big government, and totalitarian control is evident and must be stopped by any and all means. The elections in 2010 are critical for our nation's survival. "

The Party was unsuccessful, but it was the only party to attempt to ovetthrow the monarchy. Further, Russis also fought against Germany. And Italian Communsit tried to off Mussalini. What more do you want? "

" I am always amused when I hear about conservatives claiming that Obama is a "socialist" or a "communist." REAL socialists and communists have nothing but contempt for Obama. Over the past several weeks I have looked at web sites of 10 socialist or communist organizations or parties. All but one of them vehemently denounced Obama, as well as pretty much everything he stands for. (One web site said nothing at all about him.) These socialist and communist web sites not only agree with conservatives about Obama, they also concur with many conservatives about the government bailouts (of real estate, insurance, auto companies, banks, etc.) Many conservatives are outraged at the bailouts, as well as the socialists and communists, who say that these businesses should be allowed to die on their own, without the government coming to their rescue. Once again, this is an example of the ultrarightwing and the ultraleftwing agreeing on certain key issues, but perhaps for somewhat different reasons. "

Nice try, but it is factual to say that fascism, socialism, nazism... they are all leftist movements that crushed free enterprise and empowered that state. You speak of human rights... so I guess you are pro-life or you are a fascist. Scapegoats? How about your hated Fox News or Rush Limbaugh? Fascists have been shouting down conservative public speakers on our nation's college campuses. The power of corporations protected by fascists? You are incorrect. Fascists eventually took over most... allowing only those who supported them to exist. Big government controlling health care, energy, car manufacturing, communications... socialist or fascist. Controlling media? Look at who has been trying to silence talk radio, Fox News, the blogosphere... The left's attempt to paint the right and center as fascits when it is they who are fascists... classic fascist propaganda tactics. I'm correct for calling fascism a leftist movement.

Socialist policies require government control, while freedom depends on capitalism to truly exist. Nice try to squirm out of being called out on your fascist leanings by pointing the finger away from yourself... also a classic tactic used by tyrants and despots throughout history, including fascists. " Sen. Byron Dorgan, Democrat of North Dakota, was one of eight senators who stood up to oppose the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act in 1999. That repeal, which was signed into law by President Clinton exactly 10 years ago today, broke down the barriers between commercial banking and investment banking, and led to the growth of behemoth financial firms that were able to take enormous risks with impunity because they were "too big to fail."
"I think we will in 10 years' time look back and say we should not have done this," Dorgan said back then.
The understatement of the decade, folks. That's what let the "free market system" of massive fraud wreck the world economy.
Another of the handful who wasn't bribed by Wall Street was Sen. Russ Feingold, who recalled that the repeal "was just one of several bad policies that helped lead to the credit market crisis and the severe recession it helped cause." "

" What a waste of ink on the virtues of late stage capitalism...

Did the former president "invite" 9-11 in order to justify the occupation and destruction of the "cradle of civilization" because their leader dared refer to him as "junior Bush?"

Free market economy has brought Nike shoe factories to Vietnam and world class car manufacturing to South Korea (a U.S. protectorate for now 60 years!), not to mention the destruction of Main Street America to the hands of WAL-MART Corp selling Chinese goods for less, guaranteed.

The U.S. empire is waning, and has been long before Obama. Clinton had to rebuild a trashed Bush economy and eventually did a fine job. The new president will use all the tools available to provide jobs for the citizens and end the wars and clean up the environment while making healthcare available (even to those without insurance). Not a small order following so many decades of free market negligence. "

There is no doubt that Nazism is a right-wing philosophy! "

The health care bill as is, only harms the citizens, rather than helps them, so it needs to be scrapped and started over, AFTER our economy improves. The bill should be constructed by both parties, and be under 100 pages, include Tort reform, ability to buy insurance across state lines, not allow illegals to be included, no govt money for abortions, and the removel of Pelosi's ridiculous fine or jail provisions. Americans will not accept this mandate, that is unconstitutional. "

Excellent observations, woodtick!

Now that all but one of the indicators that the economy is turning around have manifested, the question is: what will the disgruntled loses have to say when the employment numbers go up. I suspect they'll retreat back to the birth certificate issue. Or perhaps Fox will organize another corporate sponsored "grass roots" tea party. I can't wait for Sean Hannity's videos on that. "

Fast forward---they allowed people to collect from the account that never payed into it. When I retired I went to talk to Employees benifits person and he told me that I would recieve my retirement from the company AND that I would recieve from welfare
(He reffered to S.S.) also and I told him that I as well as the company paid into that every pay perion.....in fact I had worked since I was 15 and It was NOT welfare. Also my husband died of cancer and recieved S.S. for only a matter of months...so where did the money that he payed in go? I know ...
a woman I met came over here from europe 3 years ago to live w/family and she Got SS disability....she had NEVER PAID IN A PENNY. That's robbing someones account. That's what happened to social security. "

" We just witnessed the largest redistribution of our nation's wealth in the history of our country under George Bush. Problem was, it was all in precisely the opposite direction necessary for the good of our nation as a whole.

Welcome back to the Land of the Robber Barons, and the accompanying economic hardship it creates for the majority of innocent, hard-working Americans.

I predicted when George was appointed President for the first time, that if we had to endure 4-8 years of his parallel simultaneous backwards world economic theories, we would end up in a severe recession if not an outright depression. Looks like I was right.

Bush destroyed market demand (half the equation for success) by moving a vast amount of wealth to an already top-heavy supply side. Money trickles up far faster and more reliably than it trickles down. Trickle on economic theories simply don't work, and we have more than ample proof of this fact. Still, those who are ignorant of history are bound to repeat it.

Now I predict another economic slump that will hit those on the bottom half of the scale so hard they won't know or understand what hit them. The reason why is because Obama is making the same mistakes Bush made ($800 Billion dollars to the top rung, again), and not doing what needs to be done to turn this boat around. Even his so-called health care "reform" (not) is a well veiled corporate welfare giveaway to the health unsurance industry at our expense. (Won't work because it keeps the problem as the solution.)

This country is headed for the falls. Obama thinks he can stick his paddle in the water and slow us down. Problem is we need to paddle like hell in the opposite direction. "

" Ah, the usual name-calling right wingnuts are out and about today.

I read through most of the comments (and insults!) and was looking for what I thought was one of the biggest points that needed to be made. Thanks Bernie for tapping into it. I just think it needs to be hammered home a bit more (for those of you who can't remember history from 2004). The congressional budget office said the wealthiest Americans got richer due to Bushes tax cuts for them - and the top 1% even more so! "Based on an exhaustive analysis of tax records and census data, the study reinforced the sense that while Mr. Bushs tax cuts reduced rates for people at every income level, they offered the biggest benefits by far to people at the very top especially the top 1 percent of income earners." They went on to say, "Mr. Bush and his Republican allies in Congress want to permanently extend that tax cut and almost all of the others that Congress passed in his first term. The cost of doing that would be more than $1 trillion over the next decade, a cost that would hit the Treasury at the same time that the spending on old-age benefits for retiring baby boomers begins to soar." (gee, would've been nice to use that money to balance the budget that Bush destroyed; or provide health care to those who need it!).

So let's review; people who were paying 39.5% in taxes (the top 1%) slid down at least 5% due to Bush's crony-ism, and THAT IS REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH. Where were you at that time? Shouldn't you have been complaining about it back then Leroy? They're taking it from everyone else now because Bush wanted to help his richest of friends be richer. It's amazing how you believe the propagandistic crapola that the right wing corporations spew your way in lieu of actually caring for people. They get you to actually believe they are the victims?

TQ - Yup, kleptocracy. Kinda like kleptomanic republicans. They just can't keep their hands out of the governmental cookie jar - and then blame the dems for socialism? HA HA HA HA They can try to re-name their greed, but it is what it is. It's moronic how the right keeps calling the left "socialist" (a term they don't even nearly begin to understand) and looking for "big government" when THEY ARE THE ONES THAT BENEFIT FROM THE OH-NO-WE-CAN'T-FAIL-BAIL-OUTS from their cronies Bush and Cheyney...oh, let's see...who was it now? Oh yea, THE US GOVERNMENT!

Becky - I like your "deck chair" analogy. Unfortunately, those on the right won't open their deck chairs! LOL In fact, they're piling theirs up on the one side of the deck so the Titanic will sink even FASTER so they can say "I told you so!". So much for the party of "NO!".

Matt - interesting comment about the communists and socialists not like Obama; guess they can cross him off their Christmas card lists!? LOL If Obama were a socialist or communist, wouldn't these sites be singing his praises??? (ah, crickets sounding from the right).

Ben - as usual, you have nothing useful or coherent to say but to insult others. Just turn your Faux No-News back on at it's loudest level and enjoy the lies they feed you.

Cedric - calling HP a flaming liar? In what capacity? For what reason? Care to elaborate? It's easy to just slam and run - much harder to actually come up with a cohesive, meaningful conversation (oh, that is, if you got one).

All this negativity is such a downer! The right wing needs to take a chill pill and really study history - and for goodness sakes, TURN OFF FAUX NO-NEWS! You may actually come to your sense then. "

The site is a well-funded enterprise; the General Services Administration updated it earlier this year with an $18 million grant for improvements.

But like almost all Gooberment activities, the site is full of self-serving inaccurate information.

Recovery.gov lists hundreds of millions spent and hundreds of jobs created in Congressional districts that don't exist!

Here is a small sample of the self-serving information supporting the bogus stimulus (better named the dummy-crat payback bill):

Arizona's 9th Congressional District, 30 jobs have been saved or created with just $761,420 in federal stimulus spending.

86th Congressional District in Arizona, $34 million in stimulus money has been spent there.

Oklahoma- more than $19 million in spending and 15 jobs created
Iowa- $10.6 million spent and 39 jobs created

None of these districts exist!

So where did the money go, were jobs created, heck who knows.

You can find the same type of idioticy when the Repub-a-clowns are running things.

How many examples do you have to see to finally understand the powers in charge are just running scam after scam to separate you from your money to give to those who support them and keep them in power? "

It started with the democrats tinkering with the housing and mortgage industry with the The Community Reinvestment Act(CRA) of 1977 back under Carter. It got 'actuated' under Clinton through his executive action inforcement on the Fair Housing Act (1995) and The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999.

Government in general (both repubs and demos) failed because it provided minimal oversite throughout the entire process.

If it is bad it is always someone elses fault, if it is good it is always to their credit. They want it both ways. Make sense? My statement does but the logic the libs are using doesn't. Yes, yes, I know, the cons do it too. People are people and you will never find a perfect person...even those as far superior such as yourself...whatever...but people expect their elected officials to represent them.
My problem with Obama is that he does not represent me or most conservatives nor does he represent a lot of democrats. He is aggressively advancing a "New World Order", seeking "Global Governance" and THAT I have a problem with. Bush (actually both of them and Clinton, etc) wanted the same stuff but they didn't have the nerve to push as hard as Obama does. That makes Obama more dangerous. That is not a compliment. The irrational hatred pouring from your posts mirrors what we have seen from the talkers and squawkers in the elitist mainstream media all for the most improbable of all the repub-a-clown candidates.

What are you all afraid of, 2012 is still a long way off? "

Go do some 6th grade civics, and you'll notice that Fascism is an extreme offshoot of your right wing (in other words, taking Neo-conservativism o its logical endpoint).

The Left can lean socialist or go as far as Communist... but FASCISM is a RIGHT WING INVENTION.

If you're going to use the term, at least understand what it means. "

Fascism is a system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism,
a political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government, or oppressive, dictatorial control.

Fascism has often been characterized as an extreme right wing ideology, while others have focused on the leftist, big government aspirations of fascist movements to paint them as left-leaning. While either label is really kind of meaningless, the tactics employed by fascists themselves are not unique to the left or right.

Calling someone a right-wing fascist or a left-wing socialist is merely quibbling on terms. Both ideologies give rise to totalitarism and big government.

Thanks for the suggestion to revisit the sixth grade, though. I was unaware the schools were teaching sixth graders anything about fascism these days. When I was in sixth grade, we were still reading about American history and the US Consitution. "

And I think we all -- as Americans -- should give him credit for doing that.
Mike Huckabee-

A nice thing for Huckabee to say, but it won't play well with the extremist thugs who have taken the GOP over. Contrast his comments with some of the nonsense coming out of the mouth of Palin. Palin has tapped into the hatred so many on the right feel. Hopefully it will get her the GOP nomination. If not, she will destroy the GOP with a third party run. Anything to keep in the spotlight. I have to wonder if McCain realises he may have destroyed his party by nominating her in the first place. "

17 leftist rant posts against Palin to 3 supporting her sure seems like a trend doesnt it HP?

As far as all the other points you tried to raise, there is a very simple solution. RELEASE HIS RECORDS. How tuff is that?

Gore, Bush, Kerry, Bill & Hillary, etc. did- why in the world is Obama so special he doesnt have to.

If the right is making it up the simple release of his records would sure be a good start in shutting them up.

Lets see- Controlling interest in General Motors, takeover of the student lending authority with the complete elimination of government-backed loan origination by the private sector, government takeover of AIG and other financial instructions, the proposed takeover of health care and cap & trade of utilities, and on and on. . . .

Hum, government takeover of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution sound familiar HP?

What would you call what they have done so far because it sure isnt capitalism.

The polls show that the majority of conservative American voters and most importantly the independents have moved away from supporting him and his policies.

I know you have to try to pick on Palin, Fox news or any other possible Straw Man topic because your guys- Obama, Reid and Pelosi have proven to be such total failures and you have nothing positive to post so you have to keep bumping the treads.

Guess it all really depends on just how bad the Dummy-crat policies continue to be because the 2010 elections are less than a year away.

Right now getting a wedge into the Dummy-crat monopoly in either the House or Senate in 2010 is a lot more important to this countrys future than who runs in 2012. "

If a Hungarian socialist/psuedo-communist like George Soros (who nearly toppled Great Britain's finanical system) can put a PR guy like Obama in the Whitehouse, there's no reason why wealthy capitalists can't band together to put a PR woman like Sarah Palin in the whitehouse in 2012.

Harry, Harry, Harry...you know I don't like to be painted into a corner...but Weaselly?...wow...now that hurt...hahaha!

Do I think Sarah Palin is the sharpest tool in the shed?

No, but I've never thought Obama was the sharpest tool in the shed either.

I'm not trying to evade the question/issue...it's just the most qualified seldom get to live in the WH.

Personally I think Steve Forbes can overwhelm just about anybody in the political arena with smarts and capability...but we know what happened when he ran for office...nothing...

Oh...and nothing personal against lawyers such as Oba-Mao...but I have never meet one, regardless of what highfalutin law school they attended, that overwhelmed/impressed me with their brilliance. To be a lawyer means to be able to twist verbiage and to remember dates, facts, and past case/legal precedences...that's hardly rocket science, let alone systems analysis.

And as I said before...'the sharpest tool in the shed' and THEE most qualified and to be in the WH out of the last field is...Mitt Romney.

He had/has impeccable credentials...but he I don't foresee him getting elected in 2012...he's not enough of a PR guy...

How's that for more 'weaselly'?

BTW...I don't hate Obama...I just hate that he's sssssoooooo far to the left and that he's such the uber-articulate-PR guy...in essence an empty suit. "
