Equestrian center holds opening event

CHARLESTON — State Sen. Dale Righter, R-Mattoon, Ill. Rep. Chapin Rose, R-Mahomet, and Mayor John Inyart all participated in the Charleston Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting Ceremony for Paradise Equestrian Therapy (P.E.T.) Center, according to a press release.

Terry Allen is vice president of the center’s board, while Kara McGahey is secretary/treasurer, Penny Allen is director and John Pommier is president. Also involved at the P.E.T. Center is Dr. Charlie Schuster and the horse, Miss Tiffany.

Schuster has been a tremendous resource for some of participants and is a diligent advocate for this program. His Web site can be found at www.defeat-adhd.com.

Also at the ribbon-cutting, parent testimonials were given by parents who currently or previously have had children enrolled in this unique program. Some of the parents drive from Indiana every week to keep their child involved in this program.

Pommier gave a brief history of the program and thanked Eastern Illinois University and LakeLand College officials for becoming involved. To have a program of this magnitude located in Central Illinois is truly a blessing, he said.

Center leaders offered thanks to the chamber for support and the Charleston Country Club for catering for the event.

For more information on how to become involved, obtain a riders packet, or become a volunteer, those interested may visit the center online at www.pethorse.org.
