H1N1 clinic to be held for at-risk persons

The Coles County Health Department has scheduled a swine or H1N1 flu vaccination clinic on Thursday for people at risk for complications from the disease.

The clinic will take place at the health department at 825 18th St., Charleston. There’s no fee or advanced registration required, according to a department announcement.

The vaccination clinic will be only for people in categories identified as being high risk for complications from the flu. The health department plans to schedule vaccination clinics for other groups as soon as possible.

The high-risk categories have been identified by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as:

-Pregnant women;

- People who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months;

- Health care and emergency medical services personnel;

- People age 6 months through 24 years of age;

- People 25 years through 64 years of age who have certain chronic medical conditions associated with a higher risk of influenza complications.

Consent forms for the vaccinations will be available at the health department but are also available to fill out in advance by going to the department’s Web site, www.co.coles.il.us/cchd/index.html. The announcement said anyone wanting more information can call the department at 348-0530.
