LETTER: Article about returned ring offers hope anew

I really enjoyed the news item about the gentleman who found his class ring after 44 years.

My husband and I lost our class rings in 1971, the year he got out of the Navy. It was the day after Christmas and someone robbed our home. Among the items stolen was my jewelry box that contained both our rings.

My dad told me if I cut corn out of the beans in his fields he would buy my class ring for me. So it meant a lot when I was able to order my 1965 ring with the blue stone and an Indian head on the stone since I was graduating from Neoga High School. The 1965 was on one side of it and Diana was on the other.

Like this gentleman, when my husband and I were sweethearts in high school, we wore each other’s rings. All the girls wore angora around the ring to hold it on their fingers or on a chain around their necks.

Out of all the items stolen these rings were the most important possessions because they could never be replaced.

Thank you for this wonderful news item. I’m glad this gentleman found his ring after all these years. I did a lot of praying that someday we would be able to get our rings back but to no avail. Maybe I shouldn’t give up hope yet. Where there is a will, there is a way.

" Nice letter, Diana. Don't give up hope. I found a class ring a few years back that had been lost for over 40 years. With a little detective work, I was able to get it returned to it's owner, who was very appreciative. I hope the same thing happens to you. As someone who has also lost his high school class ring, I know how you feel. "
