Lake Land board to look at leases

MATTOON — The Lake Land College Board of Trustees today (Nov. 9) will consider action on two lease agreements and hear about job outlooks in the district.

The board meets at 6 p.m. in the Workforce Development Center, 305 Richmond Ave. East, Mattoon. The lease agreements are for college use of the Western Extension Center at Pana and the Mattoon Adult Education Center in Mattoon. Action was delayed last month on the Western Center lease because the agreement was not yet ready for board approval.

The college has satellite education programs at Pana, Effingham and Marshall. A mix of partnerships has helped build the facilities through the years with the assistance of the host communities.

The college is also expanding its role in adult education with the help of a federal grant.

The job outlooks presentation will follow one on adult education. Action on the leases is expected to follow a closed session discussion on litigation, lease or real property, and employee matters.

The college will also consider approval of a grant from the U.S. Development Administration for an advanced commercial driving license training simulator. A Department of Justice grant will help the college purchase bulletproof vests for Lake Land law officers.

College policy revisions are also on the agenda for concerns and grievances and use of the Field House gymnasium and its equipment.

The board will also receive an update on college archiving projects and the quarterly investment report for the district. The meeting will also include a curriculum committee report and action on transfer of working cash funds and interest.

Anyone can make comments or ask questions during the meeting’s session for hearing from citizens, faculty or staff.
