By CINDY TITUS
Calling all Disco Divas and Boogie Nights Dudes! It’s time to get your groove on at “Disco Fever” Lootery 2009. The Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual fall fundraising event on Friday, Nov. 20, at the Charleston Country Club so grab your polyester pants and discolicious dresses with your platform shoes and plan to party down!
The evening features food, fun, drinks, networking, lots of excitement and a chance to win the grand prize of $2,000 or any of the other cash prizes given away during the evening. Every 10th ticket drawn wins $50; every 50th ticket drawn wins $100. The last and final ticket receives $2,000 in cash payout.
Tickets are only $50 each and one ticket admits two people. The doors open at 5 p.m. and the first ticket is drawn at 6 p.m. Free food is served all night with drink specials available from the bar.
The host for the evening will be none other than “Ron Travolta” aka Ron Stoner decked out in his best white leisure suit and platform shoes. Costumes are not required for the event, but for those divas and dudes who want to get in the groove there will be a Costume Contest. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed Male, Female, Couple and Disco Band group.
During the evening there is a chance to try your luck at the Horse Races and experience the heart-pounding action of video horse races narrated from start to finish by a professional race track announcer. A $20 bill buys a racing program and a chance to place bets on all the races. Winnings are paid out in raffle tickets that are traded in for chances to win special gift packages.
Proceeds from the event go to support Chamber projects such as Leadership Coles County, Business Seminars, special projects and the Program of Work.
Get your tickets now and plan to boogie all night at “Disco Fever” Lootery 2009 on November 20 at the Charleston Country Club. Tickets are available from the Chamber office. For more information call 345-7041. Can you dig it!
The 2010 membership year for the Chamber begins today, Nov. 1. We are currently working on the new Membership Directory & Buyer’s Guide, which will be available in January. All current members and new members are automatically included in the directory. Each member will have two listings — one in the alphabetical section and one in the categorical listing.
The directory also includes a 13-month calendar, which lists scheduled Chamber activities for the coming year. Over the past years the front section of the directory has been expanded to include community profile information, including important numbers, school information, area churches, and tourism information.
The Membership Directory & Buyer’s Guide serves as our primary referral tool when a person calls the chamber and wants information about the community and the local businesses. We only refer those businesses that are members of the Chamber and listed in the directory. This business referral service is one of the primary benefits of membership in the Chamber.
We get 1,500 new directories printed in late December and distribute them throughout the community. We reserve about 400 of the books to be sent out from our office during the year. The directories are given away free and provide a great way for us to promote our members.
Each month our office receives over 100 requests for information about Charleston and our businesses. We send out packets daily in response to requests for information about relocating to Charleston, tourism activities, economic development and area businesses.
In addition to the printed directories, we have an on-line membership directory as part of our website (www.charlestonchamber
.com). The online directory is updated on a regular basis.
If you have been considering joining the Chamber, but have put it off, now is the time to take a new look at what we are doing. Joining now would insure a spot in the directory and a year’s worth of promotion for your business. For membership information, call the Charleston Chamber at 345-7041.
We are proud of all of our Chamber members and appreciate the vital role they play in our community’s economy. As always, it is important for us to remember to support our local businesses. Supporting them keeps our local economy strong.
