24-year-old gets probation for molesting teenage girl
By DAVE FOPAY, Staff Writer dfopay@jg-tc.com
CHARLESTON — A man will be allowed only limited contact with children under the requirements of the sentence he received for molesting a teenage girl.
Bradlee A. Rader, 24, for whom records listed addresses on Cedar Avenue in Mattoon and on Division Street in Charleston, won’t be allowed to have contact with the victim or other children younger than 17, except for customers at the restaurant where he works.
Those were among the terms of the three-year probation sentence Rader received for his conviction for aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He pleaded guilty in August of last year, admitting that he engaged in a sex act with the 13-year-old girl on Jan. 28, 2008.
There had been no agreement on Rader’s sentence when he pleaded guilty. However, Assistant State’s Attorney Mick McAvoy and Public Defender Lonnie Lutz made a joint recommendation to Circuit Judge Teresa Righter that include the no-contact terms of the probation sentence.
Rader also won’t be allowed to live or be near schools, parks, day cares and other places frequented by children. He was also ordered to not possess pornography or view it online. He must receive counseling including treatment specifically for sex offenders and pay $700 in fines. Jail time was stayed, meaning it could be imposed later if Rader violates any of the other terms of his sentence.
The charge to which Rader pleaded guilty could have also resulted in a prison sentence of three to seven years. When he pleaded guilty, a charge of criminal sexual assault, which can bring a four- to 15-year prison, was dismissed.
In other cases in court recently, Righter accepted guilty pleas from:
n Sheryl H. Williams, 49, 14770 Cooks Mills Road, Humboldt, and Terry L. Williams, 49, no address on record, to misdemeanor charges of permitting another to possess a certificate of title.
The two ran a vehicle customizing business and changes to some vehicles they sold meant the original titles supplied to customers were no longer valid, according to McAvoy, who prosecuted. They were ordered to pay $1,315 in restitution to customers in Urbana and in Clinton, Ind., who bought vehicles from them in July 2007 and had to pay for replacement titles.
Righter accepted a plea agreement that included dismissal of felony charges of misrepresenting a certificate of a title. Mattoon attorney Fred Johnson represented Sheryl Williams and Effingham attorney Scott Ealy represented Terry Williams.
n Anthony K. Hamilton, 23, of rural Jewett to a theft charge alleging he stole a bottle of liquor from the Mattoon County Market store on Dec. 28.
The charge was filed as a felony because of an earlier theft conviction but was reduced to a misdemeanor. Hamilton was sentenced to jail time served but was unsuccessfully discharged from probation for his earlier conviction, though he still has to pay restitution ordered in the earlier case.
Another theft charge accusing Hamilton of stealing beer from the Mattoon Huck’s store on July 7 was dismissed. McAvoy and defense attorney William McGrath recommended the plea agreement.
n Britney L. Pauley, 22, 1401 S. Lawn Drive, Mattoon, to an obstructing justice charge alleging she lied about her identity to a police officer investigating a theft at the Mattoon County Market on June 3.
Terms of Pauley’s one-year probation sentence included 30 days in jail beginning Monday with more jail time stayed, substance abuse counseling and a $500 fine. McAvoy and Lutz recommended the agreement.

COMPLETLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!! This sick person should not be allowed any contact with any children period!!!!! NONE!!! It sickens me that at 24 years of age he thinks it is ok to have sexual contact with a 13 year old!! I hope that resturant fires him!!!! The paper should have printed where he works at ( but then that would be slander I guess) but still the public has a right to know where NOT to go. I do not want any known child predator like this man anywhere near my children!!! In a resturant or otherwise "
