Two workers injured in natural gas pipeline tank fire

ST. ELMO — An investigation is continuing into a Natural Gas Pipeline of America storage tank explosion and fire that occurred near St. Elmo Wednesday.

Two employees were injured in the blast and were treated at a local hospital.

The tank contained oil rather than natural gas, and no service interruptions to customers occurred.

A company spokesman said welding was taking place on the tank at the time of the explosion, which occurred about 1 p.m.

St. Elmo is located between Effingham and Vandalia.
