Baseball academy planned in winter
MATTOON – A six-week spring training 2010 baseball program for players in grades 1-12 is scheduled for Jan. 17-Feb. 21 at Mattoon High School.
Former Lake Land College head coach Jim Jarrett is to direct the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching and catching at a cost of $99 for six weeks. Space is limited.

Second annual Sullivan G3 5K run/walk set
SULLIVAN – The second annual G3 5K run/walk in Sullivan is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 28. The 5K run/walk is to start and finish at the G3 Health Club on the square and is to weave through Wyman Park.
Proceeds are to go Helping Hands an organization through Sullivan Elementary School that provides activities for autistic children as well as the Sullivan-Okaw Valley cross country and girls’ track programs.
Awards are to be presented to the overall male and female and walkers plus the top three in each of the 12 age categories.
All pre-registered participants are to receive a t-shirt and goody bag.
A post-race party is to be at the G3 Health Club immediately following the race and awards are to be announced at that time.
There is a $2 discount for G3 Health Club members and Sullivan alum/students/staff and faculty. The cost is $15 for pre-registered participants and $20 after Nov. 20. Checks are payable to G3 Health Club and entry forms are available on the Sullivan Chamber website at www.sullivanchamber.com/events.php.

LLC basketball, Sarah Bush team up
MATTOON — Lake Land’s Halloween 5K run/walk sponsored by the men’s basketball team is to include a health fair conducted by Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System.
Among the activities on Saturday are a free fitness classes are to be offered, with a free shooting clinic for children of adults who participate in the 5K. A 3-on-3 tournament for grades 4-12 is also on schedule.
Ten age divisions may compete in the 5K. Prior registration is $20, or $25 for the day of the race. Race-day registration is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., with racing to begin at 9.

Windsor alumni basketball game set
WINDSOR – An alumni boys’ basketball game for Windsor graduates is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Nov. 24. Interested participants are asked to RSVP Windsor basketball coach Bruce Austin at bruce.austin@uniform.aramark.com or call Austin at 217-663-1199.
Players are asked to arrive at 5:45 p.m. and bring a blue shirt and a white shirt to the game.
The game is to be followed by the Meet the Blue Devils scrimmage as the 2009-2010 Windsor Blue Devils team is to scrimmage.
Softball coaches clinic scheduled
FINDLAY - The Mattingly Sports/Softball Excellence Coaches Academy plans a one day softball coaches Clinic at Okaw Valley Middle School from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 5.
Speakers include Gigi Macintosh from Pekin and an ICA Hall of Famer, Greg Blakey from Mount Zion, Phil Applebee from Maroa, Parkland assistant coach Heather Tarter and pitching coach John Fauser from Pekin. This clinic is to benefit everyone from summer youth coaches to high school coaches.
Cost is $50 and includes lunch.

SIUE plans 3-on-3 basketball tourney
EDWARDSVILLE – The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women’s basketball team is to play host to the 3-on-3 Cougar Hoop Fest on Nov. 1.
The tournament is to begin at 9 a.m. at the Vadalabene Center.
A team of four players is $50 for an adult or junior team and $25 for SIUE students. Divisions of competition include grades 4-5 and 7-8 divisions, a men’s open, a women’s open and a recreation division of competition. No divisions are offered for high-school-age participants.
The fundraiser for women’s basketball is to include door prizes, games, music and other activities.
