Lake Land College student wins top prize at Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Awards

MATTOON — David Gaslain, a sophomore radio-TV broadcasting major at Lake Land College, took first place in TV Long Form Programming at the annual Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Awards held recently at Illinois State University.

His entry was titled “My Three tips To Protect the Environment.”

Gaslain, a transfer student from Nantes, a town northwest of France, said he is honored to win the challenging contest with such admirable competitors.

“Winning feels pretty good, especially when competing against students at big universities such as Eastern Illinois University, University of Illinois and Illinois State,” he said.

After winning the Tick Tock Energy Film Festival, broadcasting instructors Greg Powers and Ed Thomas recommended that Gaslain submit his video to the Silver Dome Awards. Gaslain plans to pursue his interests of professional video editing at a four-year-university.

Lake Land radio-TV broadcasting major Paul Cesar, Bethany, won second place in Radio Long Form Programming for his entry titled “WBA News Network.”  Powers gave credit to Cesar for his dedication to the project and also said that this entry was a combination of work by several students in Thomas’ Broadcast Writing class.

For more information about Lake Land’s TV-broadcasting program, contact Powers, radio/TV/speech communications instructor at 234-5335 or e-mail gpowers@lakeland.
