LETTER: Newspaper provides value at a little price

Dr. DON SELVIDGE, Mattoon

Each day I wake up with great anticipation to read the Journal Gazette. It is actually the highlight of my day. What a great value for so little a price.

We are fortunate in this area to have a quality newspaper.

The layout is very readable and interesting, the pictures are of great quality, the national news is about right in amount, and the local coverage is excellent.

I love to read Cal Thomas, Kathleen Parker, Clarence Page, the other columnists, plus the local editorials. When I see the smiling faces of school kids young and old, I cannot help but have a better day.

Getting a glimpse of people in the area in the significant events and happenings in their lives is a privilege. Reading what is happening with local government helps me to stay informed.

I must mention my appreciation for Tommy Howard who gets the paper at the front door of my office each morning before 5 a.m. seven days a week.

I do not know how he does it, and he even avoids getting it in the lily pond.

I realize many people with high standards work together to make it all possible.

Thanks to all of you.

Dr. DON SELVIDGE

Mattoon

" I agree! As a new resident to the area as well as a new subscriber to the JG/TC I am extremely pleased. The price and service you get is far superior than any big town paper! "

" I like the JG-TC also, and send my sis Pennys column since she visited and liked it so much. I go online and look at the news, and then look in paper for something might have missed. I recycle the paper. Birdcage, rolled to burn in fireplace as logs is good, and items enjoy kept. Being disabled it brings a lot of joy for the price. AND the carrier gets it to my home 4a.m., so I admire his spunk and ability. "

" Most folks are lost without their coffee, without my morning paper, I'm in withdrawal, and I'm in the car driving to the store to get it.

I also get the USA Today..... "

You have got to be kidding me. "

" I suspect that most people take the paper for the local news, and ads. Most of that is not included in the one line version. However I would agree that the so called editorial page seems rather biased at times. "

" I like the court round up section....Dismissed, reduced, probation, reduced, dismissed, more probation. Usually as good as the funny pages but this stuff isn't funny!

You obstructed justice by lying to police officer... and you did have that shoplifting charge when you were 18yrs old .....3 years prison!

You molested 4 little children, all under the age of 11...but you have never been caught before..... 30 months probation! "
