LETTER: Nobel Peace Prize is for the 'preceding' year

CONNIE MANES, Mattoon

Mike Huckabee says the following:

“There will be an outcry from those on the right who will say that Obama’s nomination, made two weeks into his presidency, is impossible to justify, but I think such an outcry will sound like right-wing whining,” Huckabee wrote. “The better response is simply to allow those on the left to explain what he did in his first two weeks as president that merited such recognition.”

It’s not about just the first two weeks of President Obama’s administration, Mr. Huckabee. The Nobel Peace Prize he won is about the way he handled his campaign and the way he approached American citizens and their desire for change.

It was also about the way he approached other nations around the world. It was about the way he showed everyone they deserved to be listened to and respected for their ideas.

It’s about the way he took on the establishment and proved that anybody could run and become a leader if they worked hard enough for it.

It was about the famous speech he made about race. That speech is considered as famous as Martin L King’s, “I have a Dream” speech.

It was about the way he got people to follow his dream.

Just look at the pictures and listen to the stories of those he visited across this nation during his campaign. He made history with all types of folks of all ages. He made history with the amount of people that came to see him at his rallies. Thousands traveled for miles to see Barack Obama in person.

Go back and look at the pictures and videos that were shown during Obama’s campaign in the United States and in places like Germany during his world tour in July of 2008. Look at the pictures as he spoke to over 200,000 people wanting to see and hear his opinion about the world’s views and our connections.

No, Mr. Huckabee, President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize wasn’t about his first two weeks in office. It was about the way he drove the world to the idea of “change” in 2008.

For those unaware, Mr. Nobel’s “Will” says the award should be for achievements during the preceding year.

President Obama received the award for his campaign and bringing the idea of change to the world. Plain and simple.

CONNIE MANES

With the Obama/Biden gatherings you saw hope and optimism, while we saw angry mobs yelling obscenities and things like "Kill them" from those attending those of McCain and Palin. To his credit, McCain did chastise those types of behaviors, but Palin merely smiled and basked in the attention she was getting. I think this issue alone played a big part in Obama's victory. "

Our National Security and influence in the World relies heavily on WHO is our president, if you don't understand that, then you are one of the problems.

" My problem with our new president is that he is too concerned about the rest of the world. He should recognize the fact that we are THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and not the united countries of the world. In that lovely speech he gave in Germany he stated that "The burdens of Global Citizenship will bind us together. Americans and Europeans will be REQUIRED to do more, not less. Leadership and cooperation between nations is not a choice. It is the only way." The key words are 'leadership' (as he fancies himself a potential world leader of combining countries) and 'requires', which is a primary component of fascism. If the American people had paid attention to what this man was saying they would never have elected him President. I don't care who you are but if you are a real American then you are against fascism...and you should recognize it for what it is. And that bit about "global citizenship"...we are citizens of the USA first and foremost not the other way around. "

So you think that section of the Berlin Wall in the courtyard of the Ronald Reagan Library is not a monument to the Triumph of the human Will To Be Free, but just a trophy of an egotistic warmonger? You decry isolationism, yet when we help other parts of the planet throw off the chains of slavery to bad governments you think we should mind our own business. It is all too obvious you represent that portion of humanity which is all too eager to relinquish personal responsibility in exchange for the security of submission.

"Above this race of men stands an immense and tutelary power, which takes upon itself alone to secure their gratifications and to watch over their fate. That power is absolute, minute, regular, provident, and mild. It would be like the authority of a parent if, like that authority, its object was to prepare men for manhood; but it seeks, on the contrary, to keep them in perpetual childhood: it is well content that the people should rejoice, provided they think of nothing but rejoicing. .....It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd."

------------

Telling half the story might make you feel better but you should really quit trying to slip a spitball by the rest of us.

Now for the rest of the story:

37.5% of American adults considered themselves Democrats (DOWN FROM 41.4% in Nov., 2008) A DROP OF 3.9%

32.1% of American adults considered themselves Republicans (Down From 33.8% in Nov., 2008) A DROP OF 1.7%

Funny thing bobby, the polls show an even greater reduction in Dummy-crats.

More importantly- 30.4% of American adults considered themselves INDEPENDENTS which is up from 25.6% in Nov., 2008. AN INCREASE OF 4.8%!!!

While we are at it, wonder how your anointed one is doing:

Obama Approval Index -12

Strongly Approve 28%

Strongly Disapprove 40%

The US is on the Wrong Track 61%

(All from current Rasmussen Reports)

Yep fb, nothing but bad news for you is there? "

" shumphreys, when was the last time you voted for President? Answer: never. We have an electoral college, not direct popular vote. That is not a Democracy.

Originally U.S. Senators were supposed to be chosen by States (not the voting public) but that has been changed to a popular vote, which was a mistake since it was the job of U.S. Senators to look out for the States' interests. Had they been doing so we wouldn't have to be running to the 10th amendment now to rescue us from a Federal Government run amok (for the last 80 years). We should undo that change so the U.S. Senators could do their original job of protecting States.

As for "imposing democracy", that is impossible. What we did is throw out the tyrants in Iraq and Afghanistan and impose elections. If those peoples did not want a representative form of government they could have done what the Jordanians (often mistakenly referred to as Palestinians) did and vote terrorist organizations into power, thus removing any necessity for further civic participation. But Iraq and Afghanistan did not vote in the Taliban (etc), they are having a go at a representative form of government. This decision is pretty good evidence that they are glad we threw out the tyrants and provided opportunity for as close to free elections as they seem capable of at this point. Hopefully they will get the hang of it.

Please don't waste electrons critiquing their elections or I will have to direct your attention to our very own Chicago, where rampant corruption runs rampantly rampant.

I agree with you that a willingness to face reality results in enlightenment. "

As for Iraq, anyone (including Bush43) expecting them to instantly become a Jeffersonian Democracy is unrealistic. Actually, there is no hope for anyone there over 35, the only hope is for their kids, and that takes time. 2 generations under tyranny has pretty much messed up the older folks who know nothing else.

Afghanistan has a different problem. Unlike Iraq which has cities, Afg has the village system. Hard to have a Democratic government (of any flavor) when the Village Elder decides what everyone under his jurisdiction will do.

I have a son who has served in both countries several times (lifer) and he says what is necessary in Afghanistan is to build an East/West & North/South railroad. That would take advantage of its central trade-route location; =good for local economies. Railroads bring law and order, an incentive for government to expand into and be accepted in remote areas.

I will not defend Bush's motivations for going into Iraq but once there we have a duty to win. Victory is defined by a self-sustaining representative government and a stable, productive economy. They're working on it, I hope they succeed. Those people never voted before so we can't expect them to instantly be better at it than Chicago.

As President Obama is with unemployment going higher, the worthiness of the dollar shrinking, peace prizes before actually doing anything, taking over private businesses, attempting to nominate tax dodgers to his cabinet, trying to destroy health care, and being Pelosi's puppet. What a legacy he is making for himself. Biggest problem is, is that it seems to be the democrats that are always worried about a legacy. BORN IN THE USA?
Panic in D.C.? Justice urges birth suit tossed

The U.S. Justice Department is urging a federal judge in California to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the constitutional eligibility of Barack Obama to hold the office of president.
While Obama was delivering his love me and support me speech to our nations children, the hearing on a motion for discovery regarding the eligibility of Barack Hussein Obama to even occupy the Office of the Presidency of the United StatesKeyes v Obamawas underway.

Note: All other efforts from multiple other attorneys handling multiple other cases have been denied by courts that strongly appear to have been intimidated by Obamas DOJ.

On Friday 7 September, the US Justice Department advised federal Judge David O. Carter to dismiss the case on their previously highly successful (if bogus) standing argument; which claims thateven if the merits of the case are correctplaintiffs cannot show they have experienced harm. Instead, on Tuesday, Judge Carter heard Attorney Orly Taitz motion and set a tentative and expedited trial date for 26 January 2010. The date is tentative as Judge Carter will be addressing the ObamaAttorneys motion to dismiss the case on 5 October. If Obamas motion to dismiss is not granted, Taitz discovery hearing will take place that same day and the case challenging Obamas eligibility will proceed. As Obama has reportedly spent between $1-1.5 Millions to hide his school and true birth records, this would be the first time We-the-People would have access to them. "

Traditionally the burden of proof falls of the plaintiff. The birthers have not proven anything. So far Taitz has come up with two different birth certificates, both have been debunked as being phony. Will she somehow come up with a third one?

So far she has got her delusional ideas thrown out off court in both Georgia and California. One court has even fined her for filing a frivolous lawsuit.

Here's what one judge said of Taitz:

"When a lawyer files complaints and motions without a reasonable basis for believing that they are supported by existing law or a modification or extension of existing law, that lawyer abuses her privilege to practice law, Land writes. When a lawyer uses the courts as a platform for a political agenda disconnected from any legitimate legal cause of action, that lawyer abuses her privilege to practice law. When a lawyer personally attacks opposing parties and disrespects the integrity of the judiciary, that lawyer abuses her privilege to practice law. When a lawyer recklessly accuses a judge of violating the judicial code of conduct with no supporting evidence beyond her dissatisfaction with the judges rulings, that lawyer abuses her privilege to practice law. When a lawyer abuses her privilege to practice law, that lawyer ceases to advance her cause or the ends of justice".

Do you really think if there was any validity to these ludacris claims that Fox news wouldn't be joining in? In fact none of their Obama bashing pundits are buying into the birther movement, and that's pretty telling.

But don't dismay, whitedove. Orly has come up with another idea. This time it's that Obama is really a radical Islamic extremist who was somehow put into office by the Saudis to destroy our country. Orly is now claiming that the Saudi goverment even paid for Obama's education. Look for Orly to show up in court soon with more "proof".

He is willing to spend millions to keep his past hidden from the American people and this makes the very strong statement that this man is a deceiver.

More bizarre Potter:
Congressional hearings were held to determine whether Sen. John McCain was constitutionally eligible to be president as a "natural born citizen," no controlling legal authority ever sought to verify Obama's claim to a Hawaiian birth.

" I just wonder how much it is going to cost taxpayers for Obamy to go over there and personally receive his Nobel Peace Prize? That would be the one that he is so humbled by you know. I mean so humbled that he is going to go and personally receive. But actually the trip won't be paid with tax money but just be another addition to the deficit. But so what difference he earned this the preceding year right? Well that just makes all the difference don't it? Well anyway he and Michelle can just consider this another big date trip like the one to New York that added to the deficit a few hundred thousand. Course this trip might cut into his golf game time boy thats a bummer, but then he could while hes flying along have a little time to think about Afghanistan and just what to do about sending more troops or whatever but then thats not too important plenty of time for that later.

We can all just rest easy knowing what good hands we are in. "

SO you admit that you do not believe in truth, just you opinion of truth. I cite my quotes to show proof and truth. You then say, "that is not what they meant", or that they are wrong. Sorry but truth is not objectionable.

It's not over my head, it's just usually not on point, or complete nonsense.

"but as I said I would never try to keep you from shooting off your mouth so that you can shoot yourself in the foot. That isn't attacking your character Mr. Hendren. That is a statement of fact. "

First you do all the time. You are always telling others how they need to not read your posts, or that their comments are off base, when it is you most of the time that is off base. Secondly, telling others how stupid they are for believing something you do not is an attack of their character. Once again thank you for proving points for me. "
