Graphic design symposium set Saturday
CHARLESTON — A graphic design symposium and reception at the Tarble Arts Center will kick off an Eastern Illinois University graphic design alumni exhibition on EIU’s Homecoming.
The symposium and reception will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Tarble’s Atrium. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
The symposium is scheduled between EIU’s homecoming parade and the football game against Tennessee Tech. Parking will be available in the staff lot on Ninth Street immediately north of the Tarble, as well as in the Tarble visitors lot.
The EIU art alumni who will make presentations for the symposium are Brian Priest, Joel Warneke, Brooke Gronewold and Sam Tableriou. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations. The morning’s activities will conclude with the exhibition’s opening reception.
Priest (class of 1989) is senior creative vice president for Creative Upshot, Chicago. Warneke (class of 1992) is principal designer and co-founder of Rocket Science + Design, LLC, Mason, Ohio. Gronewold (class of 2000) is owner/designer for Gronewold Design, Petersburg. Tableriou (class of 2005) is designer and project manager at Taylor Studios Inc., Rantoul.
The exhibition presents work by EIU alumni spanning two decades. Selected by EIU art professor Mary Leonard-Cravens and Tableriou, the exhibition comprises Web design, digital illustration, animation and film, along with a wide variety of printed pieces and designs. The exhibition will continue through Nov. 29 in the Tarble’s Brainard Gallery and eGallery.
Exhibited are designs for nationally and regionally recognized companies and organizations: Walt Disney Creative Entertainment, St. Louis Magazine, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Kmart, Cincinnati Ballet, Igloo Corp. and P&G Beauty. The exhibition also includes Facebook page designs, music CD/album packaging, plus billboards, banners and posters for arts and sporting events of all kinds.
