LETTER: Americans have cause to be 'uneasy'

LEROY HANKINS, Mattoon

C.S. Lewis once wrote: “We have cause to be uneasy” He was speaking about our spiritual condition. Today this same uneasiness should concern us all, whatever our politics might be.

No nation can continue to increase indebtedness, especially during recession. Appalling corruption in ACORN was proved by two youth in their 20s. Congress voted to stop their federal funds, but our two Illinois senators, Durbin and Burris, voted to keep paying ACORN.

Both senators have the “Chicago type politics” as does our president. “Dead” people have voted for years in Chicago. Corruption is the expected way of doing business there. Obama “cut his teeth” in Chicago.

It is regrettable that many people will not watch Fox News for political reasons only. Other networks are “in the tank” for Obama and will never print all of the truth.

Fox got rid of radical Czar Van Jones, and exposed ACORN. At least 10 more “czars” are as radical as Jones. It is unbelievable that Obama would surround himself with socialists and radicals determined to change our constitution or pervert it. All czars should be properly “vetted” just as Cabinet members are.

Referring to the recent letter of Mr. Don Searles, we should all be indebted to him for his clear explanation as to how logistics makes Obama’s public option Health Care plan a hopeless, chaotic mess.

If I may add my opinion, there will probably not be 96,000 new doctors willing to train in order to take care of the 48 million newly insured. Rather, all of us would be waiting 6-8 months to get an appointment with the already over-worked doctors who were brave enough to not retire. Is there no one in Washington smart enough to figure this out?

We have cause to be uneasy!

So, Mr. Hankins, you are saying that since you and yours are covered with health care that you want those who are not to just go away and not rock your boat? Seriously Mr. Hankins, that has to be one of the most selfish "reasons" I've EVER heard about healthcare. It saddens me that another human being could feel this way about other human beings in need of a doctor and medicine. Shame on you! "

The White House should issue documented lists of exploded Fox News lies, sneer at them, mock them, laugh at them, hammer them, dismiss them, then hit them again and again.
Obama could, for example, offer Bill O'Reilly the ambassadorship to Malmedy. "

It seems to me that it wasn't to long ago that we had a president who only spoke to crowds that were there by invitation only. No complaints from Fox on that. I heard one of their "fair and balanced" commentators whining about Obama going to the IOC board trying to get the Olympics staged here too. What they failed to mention was that every head of state of the countries bidding was there too. Ah, good old Fox, only reporting the side that supports their ongoing assault on the president. If Obama had ignored this situation, they would have been all over him. Yes Leroy, they're fair and balanced alright. "

Dole has joined his fellow former Majority leader, Lott as well as some other prominent party members in calling for action. It appears that there is a shift occurring as we speak. In spite on the ongoing efforts of Fox news, health care is gaining momentum and appears to be getting closer to becoming a reality. The party of no is going to lose another one. Leroy, as well as the rest of the Obama bashers on this site like Sybil and all of his personalities, need to stock up on Kleenex, they're gonna need them. LOL! "

The Congressional Budget Office added that the legislation would reduce federal deficits by $81 billion over a decade and probably lead to "continued reductions in federal" red ink in the years beyond.
AP-

Well well well!

And of course Fox has all of a sudden become a critic of the CBO. While just a few short weeks ago they were touting CBO figures that said a former bill was too costly. Now that the CBO has said this is feasible, they've become a critic of the very source they were using the other day. The transparent hypocrisy of Fox news becomes more evident by the day. Desperate spin is in play at Fox as usual. Folks, it doesn't get any better than this. "

" Fox News's Shepard Smith demonstrated some of that trademarked independent thinking that so often gets him in dutch with the cable network's most dedicated viewers, when he took on Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and offered up some serious-minded and well-informed pushback on the public option. His initial response, for my money, is rich with substance and exceedingly well-expressed:

SMITH: Over the last ten years health care costs in America have skyrocketed. Regular folks cannot afford it. So, they tax the system by not getting preventative medicine. They go to the emergency room in the last case and we all wind up paying for it. As the costs have gone up, the insurance industry's profits, on average, have gone up more than 350%. And it is the insurance companies which have paid, and who have contributed to Senators and Congressmen on both sides of the aisle to the point where now we cannot get what all concerned on Capitol Hill seem to believe and more 60% of Americans say they would support, which is a public option. This has been an enormous win for the health-care industry, that is an unquestioned fact. But I wonder, what happens to the American people when we come out with legislation now which requires everyone to have health care insurance -- or many more people -- but does not give a public option? Therefore millions more people will have to buy insurance from the very corporations that are overcharging us, and whose profits have gone up 350 percent in the last ten years. It seems like we the people are the ones getting the shaft here.
Huffington Post-

Holy cow! No wonder most of the fox fanatics hate Smith, he actually tells the truth. It's Rare to actualy hear the truth on anyone from Fox. He may not be around for long if he keeps talking like that. "

I'm surprised that you're so upset over the czar concept, jayce. Especially considering that George W Bush appointed well over 40 himself. Were you just as offended when Bush did it? And I suspect that if the Dems had went back 20 and 30 years into the lives of some of those folks Bush appointed, like the GOP has, they might have found a skeleton or two.

You might be better off sticking to the birth certificate story, or that Obama is really a secret Muslim next time. Your "czar" complaint doesn't hold much water light of past history. You get a D- for that inane comment. "

Hilda and Krikor Sarkisyan went to CIGNA's Philadelphia headquarters, along with supporters from the California Nurses Association, to confront the CEO Edward Hanway over the death of her 17-year-old child.

In 2007, Nataline Sarkisyan was denied a liver transplant by the company, on the grounds that the operation was "too experimental" to be covered. Nine days later it changed its mind, in response to protests outside its office. It was too late: Nataline died hours later

It took the CEO of Cigna a full month to issue an apology letter to the family. "

" UPDATE: Either sensing an opening to cast the Republican Party as actively rooting against America, or just fed up with the stream of negative responses, the Democratic National Committee put out an unusually blunt statement Friday morning. The gist: that the GOP sides with the terrorists.

"The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists -- the Taliban and Hamas this morning -- in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," wrote DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse. "Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize -- an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride -- unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore - it's an embarrassing label to claim.
Sam Stein-

Mr. R: Hello boys and girls. Golly-gee, isn't it a beautiful day, boys and girls? You know why it's a beautiful day boys and girls?

It's a beautiful day because Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm won the Nobel Peace Prize!

Boys and girls: (in unison) Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

Mr. R: You all know what the Nobel Peace Prize is, don't you? Anybody here can tell us what it is?

Lil' Tommy: Oh! Oh! Oh! I know..I know!

Mr. R: Okay Lil' Tommy...tell us about the Nobel Peace Prize.

Lil' Tommy: The Nobel Peace Prize was started by Alfred Nobel, the inventor of nitroglycerin and dynamite. And because Nobel felt so bad that his invention had KILLED MILLIONS of people, out of guilt, he decided to award prizes worth millions of dollars to persons who have "done good" to other people!

Mr R.: Very good Tommy! You boys and girls are soooo smart.

Mr R.:So boys and girls...do you know what "good" Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm has done to win the award?

Sally: I know, I know!

Mr R.: Okay Sally tell us what "good" Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm has done!

Sally: He's bankrupt the country...putting the country trillions of dollars in debt...and more than all of the previous 42 before him! He's put America so far in debt that some of the other countries in the world want to change from the dollar as the standard currency reserve to other currencies like the Euro, Rupee, and the Yuan. Doing that will make the dollar worth virtually nothing...like what happened with the Deutsch Mark during the Weimar Republic after World War 1! the dollars now at it's lowest point per capita GDP since 1950!

Mr R.: VERY VERY good Sally! You are SOOOO SMART! Can anyone else tell us what Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm has done to win the Nobel Peace Prize?

Lil' Tommy: He, along with his congressional leaders Pelosi and Reid have KILLED not only innocent AFGHANS and PAKISTANIS, but AMERICAN SOLDIERS TOO, in wars that they've said we've lost...but he still continues to fight them. He also said that he'd stop the practice of rendition but he still allows rendition to occur. He also wants to give American citizen rights to war combatants in foreign lands that HAVE KILLED THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS!

Mr R.: Once again, very good Tommy! Okay others, please tell us what "good" Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm has done!

Lil Harry: I know, I know!

Mr R.: Okay Lil' Harry...tell us...

Lil' Harry: He's put FREAKS AND MALCONTENTS in office as CZARS, just like Adolf Hitler did in Germany with his administration right before World War 2.

Mr R.: WOW! Lil' Harry can you explain?

Lil' Harry: Yeah sure...Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm put people in like VAN JONES who said himself that HE WAS HIMSELF a communist. He put CASS SUNSTEIN in office who says that animals should have more rights than a human fetus and said that we should provide lawyers to animals. Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm put A BUNCH of Tax cheats like TIM GEITHNER in office to give money to Obama Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm Wall Street cronies. He wants to put in as SAFE SCHOOLS CZAR KEVIN JENNINGS, who's stated his contempt for religion and who praised the founder of NAMBLA, the North American Man-Boy Love Association (pedophile group). Jennings is so "good" that he didn't report, as he is legally required to do, when told by an underage youth that the youth had had carnal knowledge with an adult. He put in science czar JOHN HOLDREN who wrote in a college textbook that "illegitimate children" born to unwed mothers should be seized by the government and put up for adoption if the mother had refused to have an abortion. Holdren also supports "compulsory" abortion for certain circumstances. He also put into Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Czar office CHAI FELDBLUM who signed a manifesto PRAISING POLYGAMY and arguing traditional marriage should not be privileged above other forms of union.

Mr R.: Can anyone else tell us what Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm has done to win the Nobel Peace Prize?

Lil' Suzy: I know, I know! Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm has done such a good job telling the whole world how terrible America is that he lost the Olympics for America!

Mr. R: Well boys and girls, that's all we have time for, for today.

And remember if you do "good" things like Obama - Hmmm, Hmmm, Hmmm you can win the Nobel Peace prize from group who's members are "regretful" for all the "bad" things they have contributed to...

All right, this has gone as far as I can stand! I got these in an email supposedly from Bill Cosby.

'Press 1 for English' is immediately banned. English is the official language.
Speak it or wait at the border until you can.

We will immediately go into a two year isolationist posture to straighten out the country's attitude. NO imports, no exports. We will use the Wal-Mart policy, if we ain't got it, you don't need it.'

When imports are allowed, there will be a 100% import tax on it.

All retired military personnel will be required to man one of our many observation towers on the southern border (six month tour). They will be under strict orders not to fire on SOUTHBOUND aliens.

Social security will immediately return to its original state. If you didn't put anything in, you are not getting anything out. Neither the president nor any other politician will be able to touch it.

Welfare - Checks will be handed out on Fridays at the end of the 40 hour school week and the successful completion of a passing grade and a urinalysis test.

Crime - We will adopt the Turkish method, the first time you steal, you lose your right hand. There are no more life sentences. If convicted of murder, you will be put to death by the same method you chose for your victim; gun, knife, strangulation, etc.

One export will be allowed, Wheat. The world needs to eat. A bushel of wheat will be the exact price as a barrel of oil.

All foreign aid using American taxpayer money will immediately cease, and the saved money will pay off the national debt and ultimately lower taxes. When disasters occur around the world, well ask the American people if they want to donate to a disaster fund, and each citizen can make the decision whether it's a worthy cause.

The Pledge of Allegiance will be said every day at school and every day in Congress.

The National Anthem will be played at all appropriate ceremonies, sporting events, outings, etc. "

In an official letter on Oct. 9 the chairman and four other commissioners of the Civil Rights Commission officially requested Attorney General Eric Holder launch a full-fledged, nationwide investigation of ACORN...with all deliberate speed.

ACORN which is under investigation in 15 states for vote fraud and in its own internal report has raised serious questions about the relationships between its nearly 175 affiliates and possible violations of federal law including money transfers, possible conflicts of interest of employees working for more than one affiliate, and widespread evidence of ACORNs role in fostering vote fraud.

The commissioners called the filing of possibly hundreds of thousands of fraudulent voter registration applications in some 14 states an invidious invitation for corruption that disenfranchises legitimate voters, and called on Holder to take serious and rapid action.
--------
Hum, strong evidence that at the least hundreds of millions of gooberment money has been funneled into ACORN and its affiliates by a corrupt dummycrat party with the end results being widespread voter fraud and corruption in their interests.

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and

and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing
videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly
narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the
non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a
minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with
people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you
have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco
de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the fourth of
May (Cuatro de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again,
would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had miss-spelled the word advice would you have
hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as "proof" of
what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a
single tree on "Earth Day", would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low
over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan
causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually
"get" what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter
installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have
laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is
really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims
throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in
New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue
with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major
corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so,
would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had
taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have
approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again 10 times
within years, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM
stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have
approved?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take
Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant
and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all the
above in just 5 months -- so be patient you've still got three years and
seven months to come up with an answer. "

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091013/ap_on_bi_ge/us_minimum_wage_drop

DENVER Colorado will become the first state to reduce its minimum wage because of a falling cost of living.

The state Department of Labor and Employment ordered the wage down to $7.24 from $7.28. That's lower than the federal minimum wage of $7.25, so most minimum wage workers would lose only 3 cents an hour.

Colorado is one of 10 states where the minimum wage is tied to inflation. The indexing is thought to protect low-wage workers from having flat wages as the cost of living goes up.

But because Colorado's provision allows wage declines, the minimum wage will drop because of a falling consumer price index.

Um, helping, oh, it's got to be about job creation, too. Shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade -- we have got to see trade as opportunity, not as, uh, competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs created in the trade sector today. We've got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation."
And there you have it in a nutshell, my friends. Emphasis on the "nut." "

For the first time in more than a year, the Dow Jones Industrial Index briefly hit 10,000. While much of the economy is still languishing -- for one, unemployment hit 9.8 percent earlier this month -- the Dow has risen roughly 50 percent since March.

Whether the Dow 10,000 barrier is a good indicator of the larger economy -- or just Wall Street's recent turnaround -- is a matter for debate. Judging by the stock market alone, the economy seems to be inching its way toward a recovery.

And for my friend fb, which one of the right wingers was crowing about this never happening under Obama? I'm sure it was one of Doh's many personalities, but I can't recall which one. "

---------------
The dow finally reaching 10,000 again is a good sign and I agree with huff-n-puff that its meaning is a matter for debate.

A friend sent the following statistics to me so lets look at just a few other things to see how far we've really come in the last 10+ years...

Dow Jones industrial avg.:
3/29/09: 10,000

Today: 10,000

S&P Index:
3/29/99: 1286.37

Today: 1087.35 (@ 2:15) or down 15.53%

Nasdaq Composite:
3/29/99: 2492.84

Today: 2164.82 (@ 2:20) or down 13.16%

Gas Price:
3/29/99: $1.20/gal

Today: $2.48 or up 106.66%

Dollar index:
3/29/99: 100.8

Today: 75.4 or down 25.2%

Gold price:
3/29/99: $280/oz

Today: $1065/oz or up 280%

Silver price:
3/29/99: $5.08/oz

Today: $17.89/oz or up 252%

Oil price: (Brent crude)
3/29/99: $14.47/barrel

Today: $75.15 or up 419%

AND THE POTENTIAL REAL ECONOMIC KILLER AWARD GOES TO:

US National debt:
3/29/99: $5,647,515,438,125.67 (5.6 Trillion)

Today: $11,914,640,438,428.00 (11.9 trillion) or up 110%

With the soon to be added cap and trade, obamacare and who knows what else - our children and grandchildren will curse our generation for this mess we have let the last 20+ years of politicians make.

But the DOW reached 10,000 again.

Wonder if the 17% (U6) and growing unemployed are celebrating. "

" As I knew they would, Fox news is lamenting Rush's getting the boot.

One of their commentators was making the point that several pro football players had had runs in with the law. Of course she didn't mention Rush's own felony charges for illegal drug use and doctor shopping to obtain prescriptions for his drug addiction. In addition she brought up the usual right wing comments about Sharpton and Jackson by calling them rabble rousers, ignoring the fact that many call Limbaugh a rabble rouser himself.

I look for Fox and Rush himself to continue to claim this issue was about liberalism vs conservatism. It's not, the decision to drop him was based on his controversial comments on race and the problems that would no doubt occur by having such a known racist involved with the NFL.

Personally I saw his action as an attempt to get involved with the NFL as the result of getting dumped from ESPN for his incendiary and insensitive remarks about a popular player. He was totally out of line and ESPN made the right decision by firing him.

Most of the NFL owners are extremely conservative themselves, which would seem to negate the liberal vs conservative claimed by the right wing.

The NFL, like all other businesses, is about profit, and Rush, with his controversial and often inflammatory comments on racial issues, would no doubt effect that negatively.

Simply put, Limbaugh's racist words got him in trouble once again. His racists remarks may play well with his viewers, but the didn't do to well with the NFL.

On a lighter note, Jay Leno said perhaps Limbaugh merely wanted to own some blacks. "

The Clinton administration changed the control of sales of the same types of items during his administration to Commerce and they ended up giving the Chinese technology that gave them at least a ten year leap forward in their missile technology.

It was shifted away from Commerce because of this and now Obama just gave it back.

Oh, thats right the Chinese are our friends. They would never use the technology for other purposes or share it with the Iranians or North Koreans now would they?

Our congress critters at work:

Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in the defense spending bill to pay for pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

THE SENATORS ADDED $2.6 BILLION IN PET PROJECTS and cut $4 billion more from the administration requested for fiscal 2010, which began Oct. 1.

The senators took most of the cash for their personal projects from the "operations and maintenance" or O&M accounts-the accounts that pay for troop training, repairs, spares and supplies for vehicles, weapons, ships and planes, food and fuel.

Raiding these operational accounts to fund big-ticket projects the military does not want, but that benefit senators' home states or campaign contributors, amounts to rancid gluttony.

Well that is one way to look at it, a little perverted but again it could be true.

Just think of how many of our young people will get to learn the joy of failed equipment and lack of support, supplies and training by their gooberment so a few congress critters could buy a few more voters off in their home territories. Remind you of your own experiences in the service fb?

According to a new General Accounting Office report, botched fingerprinting by ill-trained employees led to the hiring of some 36,000 census workers with insufficient background checks.

The investigators revealed that of the prints that could be processed, fingerprint results identified approximately 1,800 temporary workers (1.1 percent of total hires) with criminal records that name check alone failed to identify.

Approximately 750 were terminated or were further reviewed because the Bureau determined their criminal records which included crimes such as rape, manslaughter and child abuse disqualified them from census employment.

Nope, these same bureaucrats wont screw up something as important as our Health Care system after the congress-critters vote for its takeover will they?

Naw, they will get it right on that one. . . . .

Gulp, our gooberment, ah nothing to be uneasy about here, right? "
