Series: Eastern Illinois leads 6-3 but Austin Peay ended a six-game EIU win streak in the series by surprising the Panthers 15-13 last year at Charleston. Outgained in total offense 340 yards to 253, Eastern still appeared headed for a win last year but All-Ohio Valley Conference running back Travorus Bess had the ball stripped from his hands and Austin Peay recovered at its 6-yard line with 35 seconds remaining. Ryan White ran for 124 yards on 23 carries including the 35-yard touchdown that put Austin Peay ahead with 8:17 remaining.
EIU leaders: Jake Christensen has the fourth best passing efficiency rating in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision with an Ohio Valley Conference-leading 177.75. The graduate student has completed 72.3 percent of his passes, 47-for-65, for 604 yards with six touchdowns and one interception. Mon Williams is also an OVC leader while ranking 14th in the nation averaging 106.3 rushing yards per game. He has four touchdowns among his 47 carries for 319 yards, a 6.8 average per run. Lorence Ricks ranks fifth in the OVC with 60.33 receiving yards per game. He has eight catches for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Jimmy Potempa has the most receptions on the team with 10 for 75 yards including a touchdown. Rashad Haynes is third in the OVC averaging 25.0 yards on four kickoff returns. Cory Leman is second in the OVC averaging 9.8 tackles per game, freshman Artavious Dowdell has two sacks and C.J. James has two interceptions.
Austin Peay leaders: Try to determine who is the most prolific of the running backs. Ryan White with his 297 yards on 51 carries including a touchdown ranks 20th in NCAA Football Championship Subdivision and third in the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 99.0 yards per game. Terrence Holt is tied for second in the nation while leading the OVC in all-purpose running at 21.0 yards per game. Holt has 170 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries for 56.7 yards per game, averages 23.6 yards on 18 kickoff returns and has caught two passes for 25 yards. Trent Caffee ranks eighth in the OVC with a 110.34 passing efficiency rating. He is 19-for-38 for 242 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Last week Gary Orr was 8-for-17 passing for 95 yards with four interceptions. The leading receivers are Darryl Miller with five catches for 90 yards including both of the Governors’ touchdown passes while White has five catches for 28 yards. Daniel Becker is averaging 8.0 tackles per game including 1.33 per game for loss.
Next week: After three straight road games, Eastern Illinois has a big home game set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday against defending OVC champion Eastern Kentucky
