LETTER: Time for taxpayers to make a difference
RAYMOND GULLEY Arcola
Every time we open the newspaper, turn on the TV, listen to our Governor Pat Quinn, it’s raise taxes on about everything.
I think that the governor and state legislators just want to spend, spend, spend. Don’t you wonder why they don’t look for ways to cut spending and cut taxes.
Governor Quinn recently stated it would be easier to pass increases on taxes next year after elections. They (state lawmakers) want to raise taxes on state income tax, haircuts, storage facilities, plumbing repairs, continue property tax increases and who know what else, our state government believes, that’s the answer.
Don’t you think that the governor and state legislators believe we must be just plain ignorant. They think raising taxes benefits us. Truth is, the only ones that benefits are those that pass the laws, not us.
The last time I looked it seems that we are in a recession. Our income has decreased because of price increases on food, medical premiums, gas taxes, increase on utilities, property tax and list goes on.
Oh! By the way, think of these people on a fixed income, with rolled back wages and benefits. Guess what, no Social Security increase for 2010.
It seems our elected officials that we send to Springfield want to keep on spending. Keep increasing taxes, instead of passing laws to live within a budget. They don’t want to clean up unnecessary spending.
We certainly know this is not the right thing to do and we need to correct it. We, the people can do something in the upcoming elections.
How long has it been since you have seen your state legislators say no new tax increases? How long has it been since you have seen a decrease in state taxes? Don’t you believe that we are taxed to death?
Let’s start our own tea party. Yes, we the people can rid state government of irresponsible elected officials.
Taxpayers, voters, citizens of Illinois unite, be heard and let’s make a difference.
RAYMOND GULLEY
