Race for circuit judge gains 2 more candidates

CHARLESTON — Two attorneys have joined the race for a judge’s position in the judicial circuit that includes Coles County.

Eric Neumann, a Charleston resident and currently an assistant state’s attorney in Coles County, and former Vermilon County State’s Attorney Frank Young of Danville are the newly announced candidates.

Edgar County State’s Attorney Matt Sullivan and Charleston City Attorney Brian Bower announced their candidacies earlier, and all four candidates are Republicans.

The election will be next year, with the primary in February and the general election in November, and will fill the vacancy that came up when former Circuit Judge Dale Cini retired. Retired Judge Richard Scott is filling the position until the election.

Voters in all five counties that make up the 5th judicial circuit will vote in the election: Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Edgar and Vermilion.

In his announcement, Neumann said he graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1999 then worked in the Effingham County Public Defender’s Office until 2001, when he started with the Coles County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Neumann also teaches criminal law and juvenile justice classes at Lake Land College, and worked in a clinic that provided fee legal services to senior citizens while he was in law school, his announcement said. It also said his campaign has a Web site, www.electericneumann.com.

Young’s announcement said he served two terms as state’s attorney in Vermilion County but didn’t seek re-election last year. His past experience also includes time as city attorney for Danville and 20 years of private practice.

His announcement also said he graduated from the Northern Illinois University School of Law. It also said Young emphasized child abuse and neglect cases while Vermilion County state’s attorney and his other activities include time as president of a community college board.

When we see how BAD ones have, need checkout the new ones and toss the old ones aside at the voting booth. Seem to go from bad to worse however. "
