LETTER: Keep health care plan in people's best interest

CLARENCE D. KERSEY, Mattoon

I don’t care if the health reform bill before Congress today was a Republican plan or Obama plan, it is not in the interest of the US citizens.

We do not need a bill over 1,000 pages which no one can read or understand. Our Congress needs to cut out the politics, cut out the lawyer rhetoric and use concise, common sense with bullet point goals. We need to worry about people with no health coverage, our senior citizens that need medical care as they age and shifts in lifestyle that begin in society at a young age.

A health reform bill should list all the above principles as a major goal. The bill should highlight the following as a means to the end:

n Maintain our system of high quality, technology in medical health.

n Supplement and support education and job opportunities in nursing and doctor positions.

n Reform the judicial system for recovery due to medical malpractice and normalcy in test rewards.

n Rein in unjust, usery charges placed on drugs within the US, but not overseas in foreign markets.

n Allow citizens to pick, choose or maintain any health plan.

n Regulate and monitor health insurance companies on fair and equitable requirements on all policies offered.

n Require health plans offered to all citizens be comparable to health plans used by Congress and federal employees.

n See that medical health costs are on an even playing field for all participants across all health insurance plans.

These ideas are simple to state and understand the end result of a health plan for all. The socialized plans in Canada or England do not help or reach the results for all US citizens. They are hurting the people that need medical support.

Congress, please listen to the common folk, do not approve or hurry the Obama plan. This is to important to rush to judgment.

CLARENCE D. KERSEY

Mattoon

Very true, but it is also true that they often do not need to be. Most people are not lawyers and laws can be written clearly and concisely where anyone with a high school education can understand them easily. There is not any reason to have 20 pages that when boiled down say "If you are found guilty of murder you will go to prison for 20 years to life." "

and forget the "gang of six"...

Following the president's speech last week, Max Baucus announced that he is more amenable to a public option. A bill will be forthcoming, he said.

Two points:

1. Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor, questioned on his blog last week why the "Gang" had so much power.

The three Democrats, he said, from low population states including Montana and New Mexico, represent just over 1 percent of the population; the three Republicans come from states that account for 1.6 percent. Who anointed them? Is that transparency?

2. Baucus has received major contributions from health care and insurance interests.

According to the Sunlight Foundation, he has received $2.7 million from health care business interests and $1.17 million from insurance companies in recent years. And in the past election cycle, only 5 percent of his donations have come from the state of Montana, the remainder being contributed by interested parties, primarily finance, health care and insurance companies.

When the bill is revealed, watch the next steps carefully. Senate and House must agree to pass one bill. Democrats and Republicans in both houses will be fighting it out. You know who will be speaking for the drug companies and the insurance conglomerates. Who will speak for you? "

===================================
Don't make a fool of yourself. Yes the statement re murder is very simple, BUT YOUR STATEMENT IGNORES ALL THE RULES OF COURT PROCEDURE WHICH ALLOWED THE PERSON TO BE FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER.

"Laws can be written clearly so anyone with a high school education can understand them"???
Maybe so BUT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT PUTTING ALL ASPECTS OF HEALTH CARE TOGETHER, THERE ARE MANY DETAILS THAT MUST BE SETTLED -- AND IF NOT SETTLED IN THE ORIGINAL LAW, THEY WILL LATER BE SETTLED IN COURTROOM INTERPRETATION".

In some of the cases my son handles, a billion dollars is at issue. If you think those issues can be understood by a high school boy, then explain to me why a hearing at The Hague is being scheduled re an electric generating plant in Brazil.

AND NOW do you think the health care for the entire United States, all cases and complications, is simpler than building an electric plant.

You are right obviously in your statement that "most people are not lawyers" -- but don't be stupid: IN THE END IT IS LAWYERS AND JUDGES WHO WILL DETERMINE THE MEANING OF WHAT IS WRITTEN. "

So if you -- as usual -- are "carrying" and were present where Obama was present and he made a statement with which you did not agree,
would you ..... lose control of yourself??????????????? "

Becky, Cedric, poor fellow, has even his directions confused. I'll bet he thinks the sun comes up in the northwest.

I lived in Virginia the year Brown v. Board of Education was decided by the US Supreme Court, and I know how filled with rage those are who hate the world and everything black within it and are impotent to change anything.

So why don't we ignore poor Cedric???
Nothing we can say will cure his mental condition or ease his pain.
Two Prozacs (It helps to treat mood problems such as depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and panic attacks) and a good night's sleep will be the best we can do for him. "

Indeed.
And isn't it interesting how the right has suddenly become so paranoid about the deficit?? I don't remember ANY of them complaining when GWB DOUBLED the national debt. They just sat back and smiled .. sort of like a grandmother smiles at her grandchild. Children after all can do no wrong in the eyes of a grandmother.

Your comment on the % of the population is something most people do not even think about -- and is one of the most serious blunders of our so-called "democratic" Constitution.

Some would say such a compromise was necessary to get a Constitution ... but there are a few states that we see now we could get along without. I wouldn't miss S Carolina and Joe Wilson, and Alaska could take care of the Palin Pain. "

Yes, that's EXACTLY RIGHT! That's the only thing you had correct in your entire post. Now, I'm sure Faux News always is fair and balanced, right? So, ok, so what if they misrepresent the numbers of their rally to make themselves appear to have more stregnth in numbers? Ok, I get it. But what would be their reaction (in a fair and balanced way, of course) to other rallies not supporting their talking points?

Quotes from Fox News aimed at Democratic Rallies....

"You won't see that on a lot of the main-stream media media coverage. This is what it's about. It was a BIG TEMPER TANTRUM and that's all the left has to offer". (Michelle Malkin, in 2007, speaks about an anti-war protest rally in the capital)

"The President was called every name in the book, from a terrorist to the Fuhrer. If you really believe what you're saying, then you need to distance yourself from the extremists that were running this thing" (Hannity speaking about his feelings of a protest in 2005).

On the other hand, their commentary on the right-wing recent protest in D.C. 9/12 (which also had a lot of imagery of our current President as a terrorist and as Hitler) was described as "WOW, UNBELIEVABLE! Look at this crowd!" and "...a big turnout". Glenn Beck, the poster boy of the most extreme nutcases (is he going to have any advertisers at the end of the year?) claims he was amazed at how "peaceful they are for how angry they are". Surprised he didn't start crying again.

Hannity of course said to a couple that they should be proud of themselves...standing for freedom and liberty..". Good thing that Hannity distanced himself from those nutcases to have a fair and balanced report! (yea, right, I have a bridge to sell you). "

Such a sytem is downright evil".

The AP story went on to say the "nonpasrtisan group FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, says Palins claims are false and the Democrats have dismissed her claims as a distortion.

Turns out that FactCheck, which is referred to and commonly used by this administration as proof of their words, is a product of the Annenberg Foundation.

Glean my comments all you want, but I don't think you can honestly say I have ever espoused support for anything illegal.

My comments regarding ACORN were merely making the observation that they, like any large organization, appear to have some corruption going on. The reaction of the right wing, particularly Fox news seems to be a bit of an overkill, but that's nothing new. No doubt they will milk this story for weeks to come, just like they always do when it's an issue they can link to the Democratic party. Do you dismantle an entire organization because of the rogue activities of a small bunch of unethical types involved in illegal behavior? Those that break the law should be prosecuted. I hope this cleared up any misinterpretation of my ideas. "

Media matters-

The GOP will look pretty silly if they make a fuss over the use of the reconciliation process, if the Dems resort to that to pass health care reform. Of course it won't be the first time they've shot themselves in the foot over this issue. "

President Obama's numbers are back on the rise in Ohio after falling rapidly in recent months, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.

In July, the president's approval in the hard-hit state was measured at 49 percent, down 13 points down from May. In Quinnipiac's latest survey, Obama is back up to 53 percent.

The poll also found a general uptick for Democrats in Ohio over the summer, evidencing itself in higher approval ratings and slightly stronger showings for the party's candidates for the U.S. Senate.
(The dreaded) Huffington post-

Oh my, this won't play well at Fox where the bring up Obama's dropping poll numbers about every 5 or 10 minutes. In addition it will be interesting to hear Rush Dimbaugh's spin on this development.

Even though Dimbaugh uses poll information when it supports his ideas, he's quick to down play all polls that don't.

----------
My, you must have gotten out of the bed on the wrong side. Apparently your obsession with Fox or fear of those nasty right-wing bogey-persons must keep you up late and make you grumpy.

Oh well, thanks for your opinions, lets see, how to respond.

Hum, Since you dont bother to show the factual source or the process you used to discern that ol Bps is wrong in everything but my sarcasm, Ill try to be a little simpler in my response- lets try this:

Point 1- My post was in clarification to fbs post and in effect said the values ranged from 50K to 1.5 million.

It did not imply anything, it was a statement. I in fact have no clue how many were there. I do have the opinion based upon viewing several different web videos and multiple web sources that it was in the high hundreds of thousands at a minimum. But, since there is no official estimate anymore, every estimate is suspect (even mine).

Point 2- To disprove bps continuing whining marginalization and demonization of the opposition, the current legitimate polling information about how citizens as a whole support or disagree with the most current point of continuation- Obamacare would be a legitimate method to determine how factual his tiresome rabid attacks might be.

A majority in opposition would disprove bps assertions and your implication that the group in question is as small and meaningless as the entire LCoO continually states.

Strange thing, the facts does indicate that a substantial number of your fellow citizens oppose Obamacare. In fact a majority of them do.

Oh, the polling data is sourced from the polling organization that has a proven track record of their polls being closest to the actual results in the last few elections. Probably a little more accurate than some lemmings regurgitations of meaningless talking points.

Point 3- As to your rant on Fox News, then dont buy stock in them, purchase products from their sponsors or watch/listen to them. The same Constitution that supports yours and my free speech also supports their freedom of the press.

Funny thing, their ratings are blowing away the compition and have been for a significant period of time so they must be doing something right. With that said I dont trust them any more than any other source. I take the time to do my own research and try to determine the facts on my own. "

Funny how Fox news didn't make such an issue this time as they did with the questionable numbers cited for the Million Man March. hmmm... No they didn't, they stand by while one of their pundits continues to push these grossly exaggerated crowd totals.

Remember when Fox was doing everything it could to downplay the crowd sizes for Obama?

Oh yeah, no slant on Fox, fair and balanced. "

(Sept 15 2009) One week after President Obama's speech to Congress, opposition to his health care reform plan has reached a new high of 55%. The latest Rasmussen Reports daily tracking poll shows that just 42% now support the plan, matching the low first reached in August.
-------------

Obama has not offered any new arguments for months on health-care reform. In fact, his White House press office announced that Obama would have his own plan launched before the speech, which has yet to materialize.

And on the seventh day since Barack Obama gave The Word to a joint session Congress, the voters have seen ObamaCare and pronounced it .... not good. Well played Barry. "

"We understand that people have disagreements with some of the decisions that we've made and some of the extraordinary actions that had to be undertaken by this administration and previous administrations to stabilize our financial system, to ensure viability of our domestic auto industry."

In light of Barry's fresh tire tracks across Jimmy's back; isn't this one of those famous "teachable moments" for all you fringe uber-Lib screwballs who just can't help but knee-jerk the race card against the myriad of criticisms towards your beloved political Messiah? RASMUSSEN (Sept 16 2009) Only twelve percent (12%) of voters nationwide believe that most opponents of President Obama's health care reform plan are racist. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 67% of voters disagree, and 21% are not sure.

Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans reject the notion that most of the opponents are racist. So do 78% of voters not affiliated with either major party. However, just 39% of Democrats share that view. Twenty-two percent (22%) of those in the president's party say that most of the opposition to his plan comes from racists, and another 39% are not sure.

Statistical evidence that the hardcore liberals in here are not only outside the mainstream view, but are in fact, part of a small fringe group of radical moonbat fruitcakes. Victor Davis Hanson (Sept 16 2009) The voter that Obama needs to keep (perhaps dubbed a "clinger") will look at these incidents far differently than a CNN or MSNBC commentator, and wonder what might have happened had a Bush czar (Van Jones) claimed blacks were racial polluters or prone to kill, or had a white country-western male singer stolen the mike from a small young black woman to praise another white country singer.

So there will be a class distinction in how these incidents are seen and it will result in the media elite alleging white racism at exactly the same time the blue-collar voter will draw the exact opposite lesson from the wider cultures weekly news.
