Mattoon gets five wins at tennis tourney in Springfield



SPRINGFIELD -- Mattoon won five of its eight girls’ tennis matches that were completed before rain canceled Saturday’s Central Illinois tournament at Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.

The Lady Green Wave’s No. 2 doubles team of Hannah Osborne and Cheyenne Gardner won both of its matches.

“We played very well,” Mattoon coach Dwight Perry said. “I’m happy with the performance.”

The Lady Wave is to play host to Danville today and then has its Mattoon Invitational on Saturday.

Doubles

1. Claire Kidwell/Caroline Zuhone def. Tory Hasenyager/Alison Shaw (Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin) 6-0, 6-0; lost to Nicole Crim/Emily Robert (Rochester) 6-4, 6-2

2. Hannah Osborne/Cheyenne Gardner def. Alex Millet-Rumor Diamante (SSHG) 6-3, 6-3; def. (Kaitlin Miller-Emma Owais (Chatham Glenwood) 6-4, 6-1

Singles

1. Paige Roytek def. Rachel Schnieder (Quincy Notre Dame) 6-0, 6-1; lost to Jessica Seadler (SSHG) score not available

2. Destinee Edwards lost to Alia Khon (Normal Uni High) score not available

3. Lindsey Westcott def. Angie Bell (Lincoln) 6-2, 6-1; led Face Hook (Effingham St. Anthony) 6-2
