Staff at Robin's Hair Salon making most of new location

CHARLESTON — A year has passed since Robin’s Hair Salon moved to 18th Street, but owner Robin Edwards is still finding new ways to better use the salon’s more spacious location.

Robin’s Hair Salon opened in April 2008 in a house at 1625 18th St. that was converted several years ago for business use. Edwards previously operated her salon for approximately six years at a small storefront on Madison Avenue.

“There were four of us working in there and we really outgrew it,” Edwards said. “We needed more room.”

Edwards said the building at 1625 18th St. offers more space at a location that has a high traffic count and is more accessible to her customers. This building is located on 18th Street/Illinois Route 130 a few blocks south of Lincoln Avenue/Illinois Route 16.

Her husband, Bryant Edwards, overhauled the building to prepare it for the salon. The building now includes a central hair styling area with an adjoining room for manicures and pedicures. Four hair-drying stations are located down the hallway in a private room with cable television.

“We are still finding ways to make the building better,” said Edwards, adding she has decorating plans for the hair styling area.

Edwards has operated her own salon for 17 years and has a total of 25 years of experience working in hair styling. Her experienced staff of stylists includes Tami Johnson, Megan Neese, Katie Page, Anna McElravy, and Ashley Gardewine.

They offer hair styling, cuts, shampoo washing, permanents, coloring, and other hair care services as well as manicures and pedicures, and eyebrow waxing. The salon also sells a variety of hair care products.

Robin’s Hair Salon is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday each week, or earlier or later by appointment. For more information, call the salon at 348-1138.
