LETTER: How high can fence go to stop hungry deer?

So now we are faced with the divisive issue of how high our private fences may be.

As a concerned citizen, I have a question:

I cultivate a small garden on my adjoining vacant lot. Will I be permitted to erect a fence tall enough to keep out any hungry (or otherwise) deer?

Just asking--but for no special consideration.

" Mr Bauer, if they're deemed terrorist deer, you might.

Then the city council would have form a committee, or do another survey, to form new rules on who'd get to use the "deer blinds" in order to protect one's self.

Personally, I just think Bambi is getting a bad rap, don't you?
LOL! "

" Come one, folks. This deserves a serious answer.

Yes, you may erect a fence tall enough to keep the deer out of your garden...as long as all four sides are on the rear property line and you add 4-6 feet of barbed or concertina wire (said wire must be material designated specifically for fences).

This will keep out deer of airport terrorizing proportions. For larger or smaller deer, adjust the wire height. "

Hey, Mama...that is a great idea. The area needs a good dose of job opportunities. I never realized that the Mattoon council was so proactive. "
