LETTER: Elected officials keeping their insurance plan

TERRENCE McGUIRE, Stewardson

To the geniuses who would rather keep their money in their pocket than get health insurance. I suggest they stay home and read why the country’s health insurance companies have a strangle hold on the citizens who buy their product.

The citizens who have insurance are the ones who pay for the geniuses who don’t have it. President Obama knows exactly what it will take to make it work. I’ll take his ideas and run with it, rather than pay for someone who has selfish reasons. I would like to know why the senators and congressmen voted to keep their insurance programs, instead of the one they are brokering for the rest of us who have to fund theirs.

I’ll take paying more taxes on an even playing field any day.

Social Security has saved the retirement community not only lives, but monetary benefits as well. If the politicians would leave the fund alone it would last forever.

TERRENCE McGUIRE

Stewardson

Not necessarily against, but how it is ran. I do not care to put my money into a system that will not be their when I need it. I would rather place my money in a HSA, or even a Mutual Fund of my choice. Let me take care of my retirement not the government. The fact still remains that it was not meant to be permanent. "

How can so many people not see this. Again, congress is trying to give to us the same insurance options they have. No need for them to be expected to change theirs. "

When did I say I can live how my heart desires? Wanting to take the money I put into SS and put it into a fund does not mean I have money laying around. Nor do I condemn those on SS as usual you take what someone says and twist it to what you want them to say. Until resonantly I was very bad at making my money work for me not me working for my money. Me and my wife are slowly becoming debt free, so no I do not have the first nickel I made. Even if I did that would not make me a "money grubber", because I know how to save instead of spend. If you knew half of what you thought you knew of people you'd be dangerous. If the only income you now have bob is SS that is fine, my points remain though that I should have the right to place my money somewhere else if I wanted to and that SS was not originally to be permanent. I get my medical care taken care of by Sarah Bush's Financial Aid Plan, that included 2 surgeries in the last 2 years, I get my medicine for free from the Pharmaceutical Companies. Do I feel bad about this? not one bit, I paid in for 35 years, why shouldn't I take back?
As far as living beyond my means, I don't think so, I have Gas and Electricity, Water, Telephone (No Cable) and Internet, (it's included), Car Insurance (Liability) and a 9 year old Malibu. So, as far as taking back some out of the system, why not? I helped to put it there. "

in new mexico, group insurance coverage can't deny coverage for an employee, they are automatically eligible once they have passed the probationary period.

a group can either be age rated or composite rated. if a group is composite rated, it is rated based on the demographics of the group....so the healthy employee's premiums are affected and reflect a higher rate to offset the unhealthy employees...with everyone paying the same premium. it can be a good deal for some and a bad deal for others.

my plan is age rated....so i pay a higher rate..... being an old man. "

I KNOW what you need to go; get down on
your knees and pray that Obama's "government option" goes thru.

Insurance should be a shared responsibility; but as the health insurance industry works, they simply take your money, filter out a share for themselves, and pay your provider -- SOMETIMES.

If a small business having, say, a dozen employees and ONE has a VERY serious problem, at the next renewal the insurance company will raise the rates so high the employer will have to drop his insurance -- and individuals will not be able to afford it either.

A similar situation would be if your neighbor's house burned down and homeowner insurance rates were raised for 2 or 3 blocks in all directions. "

SEC. 202. (a) Every qualified individual (as defined in section 210) shall be entitled to receive, with respect to the period beginning on the date he attains the age of sixty-five, or on January 1, 1942, whichever is the later, and ending on the date of his death, an old-age benefit (payable as nearly as practicable in equal monthly installments) as follows: "

Enemies of SS claim that the intent was to END SS as of January 1, 1942. What this CLEARLY describes is the BEGINNING of SS.
Basically that SS begins payments on Jaunary 1, 1942. If you are 67 for example on January 1, 1942 you were 65 in 1940 so your SS starts on the LATER of the two dates, so you start drawing January 1, 1942.
If you are 62 on January 1, 1942 and will be 65 then on 1945, you will start drawing SS on the LATER date, i.e. 1965.

There are many like jrhendren who are not very good at mathematics and have mis-interpreted this by mistake. There are conservatives who have mis-interpreted it on purpose to SCARE the PANTS off the public, and claim the FDR never intended it to be permanent.

What hogwash!!! "

JW, we're trying to tell you that THIS IS WHAT THE 'GOVERNMENT OPTION' WOULD DO.

I'm looking at a recent Medicare statement.
My Surgeon performed a procedure and the clinic billed $2,190. Medicare says, our negotiated payment for that procedure is $172.75. We are paying 80% of that ($138.20) and the patient pays the rest ($34.55).

Next line, office call with Oncologist:
Bill $105. Medicare says negotiated price is $58.30; we pay 80% (46.64)
and the patient pays the rest ($11.66).

HOW many times do we have to explain the benefits of having the US GOVT as intermediary.

If you think you can negotiate better prices than those examples above, you're welcome to try it!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

First off it's hendren not hendron. Secondly, after further investigation I concede you are right. It was not to be for a limited time. It was Roosevelt pushing through bad legislation. Their was a bill before Congress that he basically got rid of, that was to help the poor who lost their savings after the Depression. He wanted a way of calming the people who were tired of the government and blamed them for the Depression. In fact the people, like so many now, were not for Social Security. They wanted the government more out of their lives then in. Most, again like today, wanted to use their money how they wanted to, not the government telling them how to use it. Instead we have the government saying, "You can't save for retirement because you don't know how, but we do so we will save it for you." Problem is they are not, and when I retire it won't be there. The latest wave of attacks on health care reform are straight from the insurance-company "playbook," a former industry vice president told reporters at the Capitol Wednesday.

"This year, you can rest assured the industry is up to the same dirty tricks."

OBAMA: Well, I think that there is going to have to be a conversation that is guided by doctors, scientists, ethicists. And then there is going to have to be a very difficult democratic conversation that takes place. It is very difficult to imagine the country making those decisions just through the normal political channels. And thats part of what I suspect youll see emerging out of the various health care conversations that are taking place on the Hill right now.

Based on my projected life expectancy and the amount of my monthly "benefit" I had paid in more the I could ever draw 3 years ago. Now I get to continue paying for another 20 something years. The other lovely part is since I'm self-employed I get to pay the full 15%. Just another way the government "helps". The survey found that only 24 percent of Republican voters in North Carolina believe Obama was born in the U.S.

Conservative critics of Obama contend he is not a natural-born U.S. citizen and, therefore, not eligible to be president.

The director of the health department in Hawaii, where Obama was born, has confirmed that Obama was born in Honolulu in 1961, as indicated by his birth certificate.

Public Policy Polling also asked those surveyed whether they consider Hawaii to be part of the U.S. Five percent said no, and 3 percent said they were not sure.

When Bush visited Portland, Ore. for a fundraiser in 2002, protesters stalked his motorcade, assailed his limousine and stoned a car containing his advisers.

BULLIED PASSERS-BY:

One supporter had a cup of liquid thrown into his face and then surrounded by a group of menacing protesters, including several who wore masks. Another 75 year old supporter who had multiple sclerosis and was confined to a wheelchair was blocked by a thug who threatened him.

ADVOCATING VIOLENCE:

Another protester brandished a sign that advocated Bush's assassination. The man held a large photo of Bush that had been doctored to show a gun barrel pressed against his temple.

"BUSH: WANTED, DEAD OR ALIVE," read the placard, which had an X over the word "ALIVE."

WHAT TO TALK ABOUT SWASTIKAS?

The same demonstration had a protester with a sign that said "CHRISTIAN FASCISM," with a swastika in place of the letter S in each word.

WANT MORE VIOLENCE:

Protesters slashed the tires of several state patrol cruisers and leapt onto an occupied police car, slamming the hood and blocking the windshield with placards. A female police officer was knocked to the street by advancing protesters, badly injuring her wrist.

The angry protest grew so violent that the Secret Service was forced to take the highly unusual step of using a backup route for Bush's motorcade because the primary route had been compromised by protesters, one of whom pounded his fist on the president's moving limousine.

All the while, angry demonstrators brandished signs with incendiary rhetoric, such as "9/11 - YOU LET IT HAPPEN, SHRUB," and "BUSH: BAS**RD CHILD OF THE SUPREME COURT." One sign read: "IMPEACH THE COURT-APPOINTED JUNTA AND THE FASCIST, EGOMANIACAL, BLOOD-SWILLING BEAST!"

HOW DID THE PRESS REACT:

In 2002 NONE of these signs were reported in the national media's coverage of the event.

By contrast this week the press focused extensively on over-the-top signs held by Obama critics at the president's town hall event held Tuesday in New Hampshire.

WHERE IS THE VIOLENCE COMING FROM NOW:

So far all the violence you and your cohort have been predicting has come from liberal union thugs (see the link to the video I have already posted for you). Five out of six arrested were dummy-crat union shock/support troops and the six was a reporter.

So HP, why was it that the liberal nutters who did worse things to our last crook in charge were ok with the MSM (and you???)then? "

After Hannity read a quote from Ezekiel and said it meant there would be euthanasia in the new health care bill, Coulter responded: "Totally ironically, Zeke Emanuel is on my death list. Hold the applause. I'm going to be on the death panel."

Emanuel has become a target of those who believe the unfounded, extremist myth that President Democrats support "death panels" for the elderly and disabled. OBAMA: "So that's where I think you just get into some very difficult moral issues. But that's also a huge driver of cost, right?

I mean, the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health care bill out here."

DAVID LEONHARDT: "So how do you how do we deal with it?"

OBAMA: "Well, I think that there is going to have to be a conversation that is guided by doctors, scientists, ethicists. And then there is going to have to be a very difficult democratic conversation that takes place. It is very difficult to imagine the country making those decisions just through the normal political channels. And that's part of why you have to have some independent group that can give you guidance. Its not determinative, but I think has to be able to give you some guidance. And that's part of what I suspect you'll see emerging out of the various health care conversations that are taking place on the Hill right now."
--------

Obama "suspects" that the legislative process will produce some sort of independent group that can give non-determinative "guidance" on end-of-life care for the chronically ill, with an eye towards saving money.

That's a DEATH PANEL folks. Right from the horse's mouth. "

I crack up when I see somebody like Chris Matthews interview somebody from the Economic Policy Institute or the Brookings Institute and he passes them off as being "non-partisan". They're often about as leftist as you can go and the general public has no idea of these groups leanings.

So as for the "Lewin Group" being biased, so what?

Wish I could but unfortunately the lottery is truly random unlike our friends responses.

After the first week or so of watching his posts most new posters see his pattern and game pretty quickly.

He has modified his style since last January but the base pattern still shines through when he is flustered.

It is always a safe bet to expect Fox news, Palin or those rascally repub-a-clowns coming up fairly regularly.

You know when you have really struck a nerve when he goes on a rant and accuses you of being Doh, BDD, or another other of his set of hated (feared?) posters names.

When your facts have him stumped he goes on personal attacks, throws in the fox, Palin, etc. diversions or just sulks and wont answer your questions.

Usually it is just like watching a clock run. Thus why my prediction was correct, he had to follow his natural pattern.

He is worth reading because once in a great while he actually posts something worth researching if you can get by the liberal bias.

I tend to play his little multiple personality/posts game straight up because it usually gives you more chances to present your points against his three of four posts.

He sure seems to have lots-o-fun on this site. "

So either Republicans were for death panels in 2003 before turning against them now--or they're lying about end-of-life counseling in order to frighten the bejeezus out of their fellow citizens and defeat health reform by any means necessary. Which is it, Mr. Grassley

Oh my, another lying Republicans gets called out. "

Look everyone it's the Liberal, "If you can not beat someone in a factual debate try and ridicule them." play. Every time come up with a talking point the facts prove you wrong so you leave it and go to another talking point. Look at the anthrax letters and you saying it was made under the "Bush Pentagon". I showed you that it was made while Clinton was in office. You mouthed off about WMD's so I showed you three different proofs of WMD found, and that Clinton said they were there. You spoke of the Republicans wanting segregation so I had to show you who started the segregation laws of old and not so old. Also who it was that beat the black man at a town hall meeting. I could go on and on about how me and others hit you with facts. Think is it does not matter. You are on the extreme left that says, "Everything in America is the Republicans fault. The Democrats do nothing wrong, and we will rewrite history if we have to." It was the Democrat party who said, "What someone does in the bedroom is private and character does not matter." when Clinton got caught with his pants down. When a Republican gets caught then it matters. Same book two ending in your eyes. Keep it up you are doing the extreme left proud. Remember the extreme left motto, "Ignore it and it did not happen, deny it and it did not happen, and accusation are fact, unless they are about us." "

Due process, lets see. The case was not decided by a jury, their was no evidence that she wanted to be put to death if in that state, and therefore her Fifth and Fourteenth Amendment rights were violated, since she was deprived of life. Not to mention that the families request were denied without even hearing the motions filed. That is not due process of law. "

When it comes to health care lobbyists, I'm betting most of them represent the right, jr. After all the right has aligned itself with the the insurance companies and the health care industry against any kind of meaningful reform. Yes, there are lobbyists trying to influence our elected officials who represent the average citizens, but compared to the number hired by the health care related industries, I would guess those numbers are pretty small.

AP (Aug 16 2009) Facing mounting opposition to the overhaul, administration officials left open the chance for a compromise with Republicans that would include health insurance cooperatives instead of a government-run plan. Such a concession probably would enrage Obama's liberal supporters but could deliver a much-needed victory on a top domestic priority opposed by GOP lawmakers.

Obama's numbers continue to plummet. And in the end, this platitude spewing non-stop BS-er of a "president" is really just wanting something to point to and say "Uhm, I...uh... overhauled ...uhm... health care."

But don't buy for a moment that these State-ist Democrats are through folks. They will surely try an end run around us. White House appears ready to drop 'public option'

President Barack Obama's administration signaled Sunday it is ready to abandon the idea of giving Americans the option of government-run insurance as part of a new health care system.

Know what I think- all those nasty town hall and tea party folks that the dummy-crats have villainized scared the bejeebers out of them when they just kept coming and growing in strength.

Want to bet that the congressmen went screaming and demanded a change from their real plan.

I think they are very, very scared they really might have awakened the giant.

But I suspect that this is just a little delay in their takeover plans and that Congress will pass some kind of watered down health care bill to placate those nasty demonstrators with the sole objective to get the bureaucracy in place.

Yep, let those nasty, silent majority folks calm down, go back to sleep and buy some time to consolidate power.

Then as the frog gets comfortable again in the nice warm pot of water, they will turn the heat up slowly; by adding amendment after amendment until eventually they get the real socialist program in place that they want. "
