First day of student attendance is Thursday in Charleston



CHARLESTON — Thursday will be the first day of student attendance for the 2009-10 school year in the Charleston school district.

Thursday will be a half day of attendance, while the first full attendance day will be Friday. The school year actually opens on Wednesday with teacher institutes but no classes.

The attendance schedule in place for Thursday, as well as for other half-days of attendance planned for March 26 and May 14, will be:

n Charleston HIgh School, 8:40-11:40 a.m.

n Charleston Middle School, 8:45-11:45 a.m.

n Ashmore Elementary School, 7:50-10:50 a.m.

n Mark Twain Elementary School, 7:55-10:55 a.m.

n Carl Sandburg Elementary School, 8:10-11:10 a.m.

n Jefferson Elementary School, 8:25-11:25 a.m.

The schedule for Friday and other full attendance days throughout the school year will be:

n CHS, 8:40 a.m.-3:20 p.m.

n CMS, 8:45 a.m-3:25 p.m.

n Ashmore, 7:50 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

n Mark Twain, 7:55 a.m.-2:10 p.m.

n Carl Sandburg, 8:10 a.m.-2:50 p.m.

n Jefferson, 8:25 a.m.-3:05 p.m.
