Lake Land College honors agricultural alumna



MATTOON — Jennifer Neef received the Honored Agriculture Alumnus Award at Lake Land College’s 38th Annual Agricultural Banquet.

This is the 17th year the division recognized an Outstanding Agriculture Alumnus. More than 2,360 students have graduated from the department over the years.

The Monticello resident serves as a career services coordinator for the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois. She has become a leader within the Career Services Network at the university by managing the delivery career development services and resources in a way that is relevant to today’s students and employers. 

Neef graduated from Lake Land in 1994 with suma cum laude honors. In addition, Neef received a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and a master’s degree from Michigan State University.

Neef was an outstanding member of 4-H and the college’s judging team. She won numerous awards with multiple champion steers and heifers at state and national shows.

“In my years of coaching at Lake Land, I have seldom encountered a person with such an intense desire to succeed,” said Jon Althaus, agriculture instructor/livestock judging coach. “Neef has used her competitive fire to make an impact both professionally and personally with many young people. She is a credit to here family, her institution and the Lake Land agriculture program.”

Neef is a past chairwoman of the Illinois Career Services Council and an active member of the Hire Illini Marketing Committee. She is a member of the Midwest Association of Colleges and Employees and the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Neef and her husband, Mike, live in Monticello with their children, Noelle, Leah and Andrew.
