The Fray to bring tour to Assembly Hall

CHAMPAIGN — Chart-topping, Grammy-nominated The Fray will brings its tour to the University of Illinois Assembly Hall Star Theater at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15.

Tickets for The Fray’s tour will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Denver-based group played to sold-out crowds around the world in support of 2005’s “How to Save a Life” (Epic/Sony), which went on to sell more than 3 million copies in the U.S. Hits “Cable Car (Over My Head)” and the title track worked their way onto the radio and onto the soundtrack of TV’s “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The group’s new album, “You Found Me,” is out now and doing equally well, with songs like “You Found Me,” “Absolute,” “Cable Car” and “Never Say Never.” Special guests include Nathan Rateliff and The Wheel.

The band is known internationally for their single “How to Save a Life,” which made the top three of the Billboard Hot 100. The band’s debut single “Over My Head (Cable Car)” was also a top 10 hit in North America.

The Fray was formed in 2002, and currently consists of Isaac Slade, lead vocalist and pianist; Joe King on guitar and vocals; Dave Welsh on guitar; and Ben Wysocki on drums and percussion. They have no official bassist, but recently have been touring with bassist Jimmy Stofer.

While many critics compare the band to Coldplay, the band lists its main influences as U2, Better Than Ezra and Counting Crows.

Tickets are $29 and $39 and will be available at the Assembly Hall Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations including ticketmaster.com, or charge by phone at 333-5000. Summer hours for the Assembly Hall Box Office are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday.
