LETTER: Cap-trade bill will affect costs for every citizen

VIRGINIA DARE, Hindsboro

I wonder if anyone has noticed what is happening in Washington.

The cap and trade energy tax climate bill has passed the House and is heading to the Senate. It is the most invasive bill ever considered. We better hope it fails because if it doesn’t it is going to affect every citizen in ways you cannot imagine.

Eastern and FutureGen had better reconsider their plans because any power plant not meeting their strict code of green energy will be taxed extremely and it will be passed on to all consumers in their utility bill.

The bill is 1,200 pages long and an additional 300 pages were added and given to some Republicans at 3 a.m. the day of the vote (Friday) and not given time to read it again.

A Republican from Ohio, John Boehner, attempted to read portions of it aloud before the vote and one of the designers of the bill, Mr. Waxman from California, kept interrupting him to prevent him from reading it.

In what he did manage to read there is more money appropriated to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (as if they need more bail out).

Rep. Boehner said his state has huge steel industries which will be forced out of business as steel from China will be imported instead of USA steel because of the penalties.

RE assessors will have to be retrained to know how to assess your home, if it does not meet their code you will be taxed more, even windows, water heaters, insulation even where and if you provide a plug for hybrid vehicles, you cannot sell an older home until it is brought up to code at your expense.

Many industries will go over seas to escape the regulations.

There is also an investigation starting in the fact the EPA hid a huge report that states the global warming situation has gotten better and not worse, so all this is not even necessary, after Al Gore has made an additional $100 million. It is a known fact it will greatly affect the farming expenses; and increase restrictions on all areas of farming.

VIRGINIA DARE

Both our senators voted yes but I highly doubt that Tim Johnson will vote for it. Yesterday 3000 scientists, 900 of them PHDs, started a law suit against Gore for fraud. Maybe a threat to Gore's windfall profit is what is needed to put a stop to this ridiculous farce of a bill. "

Tim Johnson did vote against it in the House.

I wrote our senators and urged them to vote no soon after it passed in the House and before it reached the Senate. All I got from Burris was this malarkey, " I'm very iterested in what my constituients think, blah, blah, blah" bullhockey.

Durbin in his email reply to me at least outlined the reasons he'll vote for it. I don't agree with him, but at least he didn't give me the brush off. I'm sure it was a form letter written to explain his position to those who write him, but at least he spelled his position out. Not so with Burris and his blah, blah, blah.

I agree with Virginia. I hope those PHD's you spoke of Becky are successful. I can't afford this bill. "

So now if it passes, all US made items will be taxed but imports would not. Oh yeah, that will really get our economy running. "

We could also look at the world as a neighborhood in disrepair. Some neighbors say they won't fix up their part of the blight unless Joe commits to fix up his yard, too. That's what countries like ours have said about the various Kyoto Treaties. Not only that, but we'll even keep adding trash to our pile on the front lawn! And we aren't going to agree to clean up our yard, until that little house down the street agrees to remove the plastic bag hanging from their tree. " "answer... the Patriot Act."
---------

Is that right, lefty? (Or should I say Mr Potter?)

Obama voted in favor of the Patriot Act in 2006.

And President Obama has said that he will renew President Bush's Patriot Act.

And in April the Obama DOJ argued to continue warrantless wire tapping exactly as the Bush Administration did. They claimed that the state secrets privilege requires the court to dismiss the issue out of hand. They argued that simply allowing the case to continue "would cause exceptionally grave harm to national security." - just as Bush argued.

But here's the real shocker "lefty":

The Obama DOJ claimed that the U.S. Government is completely immune from litigation for illegal spying that the Government can never be sued for surveillance that violates federal privacy statutes.

This is a radical assertion that is utterly unprecedented. No one - not the White House, not the Justice Department, not any member of Congress, and not even the evil Bush Administration - has *ever* interpreted the law this way.

And then there's the little matter of "torture". President Obama has not only continued Extraordinary Rendition, he has actually expanded it. Where Bush used CIA agents to apprehend suspects on foreign soil, Obama is now relying on foreign Intel agents to do the kidnapping, thereby keeping the entire process *away* from the U.S. legal system.

What was your point again, Mr Potter?
I mean....."lefty"? Or do you prefer "Dohbaugh"?

;-) "

Tom Andres wrote on Jul 10, 2009 6:27 AM:

" Oh, come on, lefty, Harry, tq, fb, eb, dohbaugh, whomever, is that the best you can do? The PATRIOT Act was passed by wide margins in both houses of Congress. Russ Feingold was the only No vote in the US Senate. The House vote was 85% in favor.

Doesn't sound like something that was crammed down anyone's throats. Our country was under attack. It may not have been the best crafted legislation ever, but it did get the job done, didn't it?

Which is a whole lot more than can be said for the stimulus bills (Bush's and Obama's) and the Detroit takeovers and the takeover of the banking and financial products industries and the takeover of our heathcare industry and this cap and trade nonsense, which will undoubtedly bankrupt our nation and still leave us dependent on foreign oil. If not, I might have to spend thousands of dollars to bring it to code just to put the For Sale sign in the yard. I wouldn't even be able to negotiate the improvement cost with a potential buyer.
I guess I'm lucky with my 1960's house. I feel for those in homes built in the late 1800's and early 1900's. But I guess it will improve the economy when the potential sellars (who hopfully still have jobs)have to go out and purchase a new H20 heater, new windows, new roof, new insulation, and new a/c unit so the house meets the new "energy efficient" code.
Think I'll be staying in my house at least until a administration with some common sense comes into office. "

" In July of 1994, just four months before Republicans swept the elections and won control of Congress, then-Rep. Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) blasted the Democratic leadership for trying to ram health-care reform legislation through Congress without giving the minority party a chance to be heard. "It is fundamentally wrong for America," he said, "for people who are supposed to be elected every two years, who are supposed to be sensitive to the concerns and the needs of the American people, to deliberately and ruthlessly run roughshod over the American people."
But in the eight years that House Republicans have been in the majority, they've perfected the methods they once denounced -- and backed off promises to improve the system. On bills such as welfare reform, the extension of unemployment benefits and the recent omnibus appropriations, Republicans have stopped Democrats from offering amendments on the floor and, in effect, made the House a one-horse show.
Mary Lynn Jones-

Tom, I think you missed the point I was making. As someone who is a student of government, you surely remember Gingrich's infamous contract "on" America where the Republicans ramrodded legislation (except for term limits now that were in control, of course) through which could not have possibly allowed for a full reading.

The point I was making was that the Republicans, now that they are out of power, are bemoaning the tactics being used by the Democratic controlled house, and these are the same tactics they used while in control.

In reality, at least when in comes to this issue, neither party has clean hands.

I've read that few legislators (both parties) actually take the time to read bills in their entirety, that's done by their aides and their favorite lobbyists of course.

By the way, now that Pelosi seems to have been vindicated by Panetta's latest admission, do you think the grandstanding Boehner will be as public with an apology to her as he was with his public rants about her lying? "

Nothing new about this stalker, kam.

He moves from poster to poster with his stalking and harassing. His obvious intent is to try to run people off of this site. He has been successful in this as more than one poster has given up and left after his harassing and stalking habit grew old. His latest ploy is meant to deflect attention away from the fact that he has changed his name at least a dozen times or more and continues to this day to use more than one name. It's rather ironic, if you think about it, that a person who posts with multiple names accuses someone who has only changed names one time would make such a big deal over the issue. But as I've said before, this is merely a ploy on his part. The regulars on this site know this and he's not really fooling any one. By the way the name Dohbaugh was created by myself as a combination of his original name, Doh and the baugh part comes from his idolization of Rush Limbaugh. You might have also noticed that anyone who ever agrees with me has to be me, at least in his delusional mind. Judging from your previous posts, I don't think he will discourage you from posting, at least I hope not. I saw where he even went after one of the most decent persons who post on this site after she defended me on some issue. At least he didn't accuse her of being me. lol! "

Obama Quote-

When there is a bill that ends up on my desk as president, you will have five days to look online and find out what's in it before I sign it."
-- Manchester, N.H.
JUNE 22, 2007

The promise to post any bills and allow for five days of public debate was part of Obama's election platform, and yet to this day he has broken that promise numerous times.

On June 22, 2009 he re-pledged to post bills online earlier and allow for public debate before it is passed in Congress.

Watchdog and advocacy groups have criticized the President for repeatedly failing to allow for timely public access to the bills. The biggest problem has been posting the bills after they've been passed, as critics say there is no use in commenting on a bill that has already gone through congress.

Dummy-crats out of control caused it.

They've also narrowed the gap on the remaining two issues, the traditionally Democratic strong suits of health care and education.

VOTERS NOT AFFILIATED WITH EITHER PARTY TRUST REPUBLICANS MORE TO HANDLE THE ECONOMY BY A 46% TO 32% MARGIN.

Right wingers ALWAYS accuse others of what they are doing relentlessly and secretly, Harry. When they're caught dead to rights, first they lie, then finally they say "But Democrats torture, too!" and "But Democrats cheat, too!," as if morality consists of getting away with any crime committed by anyone else you can cite.
They accuse their opponents of hate-mongering, racist sentiments, lying, immorality, fascist tactics and making up facts because that's what THEY do constantly. Look at all those pathetic, slobbering "family values" senators who've been caught with their pants down, literally. I have NEVER acted as a monitor to anyone on this forum, asked anyone on this forum to not post or in any way impinged on their rights to do so.

I do poke fun at certain posters who tend to act as a free copy of TV guide telling everyone what is going on at fox, or get stuck in some other meaningless subject off topic.

From time to time my posting surely must irritate selected posters because of the facts and counter points posted directly to their presentations prove them mistaken.

Why I have even pitched in a little humor from time to time.

Yes, I dont play the fool quite as well as you can and my humor might be a little satirical for some, but dog gone it, it is funny to some of us.

You are correct that the chance of a posting on this forum making a major difference to the world as a whole is miniscule at best.

But, as I told you in a dialog many months ago on a second amendment issue, I know I cant change a die-hard liberal like you or your supporting cohort.

I post to try to present my positions for those with open minds to evaluate and hopefully to sway their opinions.

Heck, in the give and take I hope to learn something new from my fellow posters.

Besides, you out post me 20 or 30 to one so what impact could little ol me have.

As you have said once or twice its all in good fun.

The precise nature of the highly classified effort isn't clear, and the CIA won't comment on its substance.

According to current and former government officials, the agency spent money on planning and possibly some training. It was acting on a 2001 presidential legal pronouncement, known as a finding, which authorized the CIA to pursue such efforts. The initiative hadn't become fully operational at the time Panetta ended it.

Sorry you dont find my viewpoint enlightening nor entertaining.

As for the spelling correction (?), guess my spellchecker is in error as yours was when you misspelled quadruptling (it is- quadrupling). But I am glad you at least found some humor in that.

Lets take your points in order:

Mean spirited rants?

Facts and links are just that, you may not like them but they are still facts.

If you meant that I strongly believe in the Constitution of our founders, have conservative views when it comes to politics, and loathe corrupt politicians from both political parties, then I guess in your world I rant.

Just for the record, can you please point out one or two examples of any of my mean-spirited rants directed at other posters on this site that you are alluding to?

Only just like me?

For just one example: I have had some very good and open dialog with shumphreys who isnt at all like me in most ways, but we have had good dialogs.

Why she and I have actually agreed on a few points (example- shumphreys wrote on Mar 23, 2009 8:35 AM:. Do any of you even know what it was? I think that Bps understands, read his middle paragraph "examples of how a Christian is supposed to act.")

Has anyone learned or enjoyed my posts?

There have been a few who have posted a note to that effect, but other than that few I am not a mind reader nor do I have a clue as to how many do or dont enjoy my posts.

Doesnt really matter, it is a free forum not a popularity contest. As far as I know there are no prizes available to win.

Wont learn or gain anything?

But I do and in fact just did from your post.

I learned that you are most probably left of center politically (your post is all feelings no supporting facts, it logically attacks me the person not any of the data that I have presented, it classifies me as a mean spirited person, etc. ), that you probably voted for the current President and that you dont know me at all.

Now, if you would be so kind as to present a specific instance where I was mean spirited against a fellow poster I would appreciate it very much.

If you wish you could even pick one of my posts, take one or more of the facts or information I presented and propose your counter argument with your supporting authorities- then we could have more dialog.

Facts and information we can learn from, emotions and feelings are for relationships.

According to the president's intentions, such suspects could be detained for long periods of time, virtually indefinitely. Is this really what the nation voted for last November?

Oh, wait. No. According to an exclusive Washington Post/Pro Publica report this afternoon, it's the refreshing new Democratic administration of Barack Obama that's now preparing this new executive order to hold certain terrorist suspects indefinitely.

This is an obviously inspiring sign of the new style of leadership the Democrat promised and is finally bringing to the White House. As one blogger put it, George W. Obama. He continued and labeled both of them the "worst persons in the world." He flayed the soldier as "an embarrassment to all those who have served without cowardice."

Whew Olber-mister why show so such much hate?

What could these dastardly people do to raise your ire to such an elevated level?

The Olber-mister labels them such simply because the Major has filed a lawsuit that questions the legitimacy of President Obama to hold his office and to ask that a certified, long form birth certificate is released.

The suit was filed and was (note the word was) scheduled to come before the judge very shortly.

But guess what- although he was scheduled to go to Afghanistan within days the DOJ revoked his orders.

Does this mean as the attorney said- "that the military has nothing to show for Obama. It means that the military has directly responded by saying Obama is illegitimate and they cannot fight it. Therefore, they are revoking the order!"

Hum, could it be after all these months of the Presidents men's efforts and his spending of huge sums of money to stop any and all access to almost all his past records, that there is finally a crack in his defensive walls?

After all, as the attorney also said- there cannot be any harm to the president if he is legitimately holding office. If he is legitimate, then his vital records will prove it, If he is illegitimate, then he should not have been there in the first place."

WashingtonPost July 15 2009- Even if Congress pulls off a budget-neutral expansion of health care, the gap between federal revenue and expenditures will reach 7 percent of gross domestic product in 2020, according to the Congressional Budget Office. And thats assuming that the economy returns to full employment between now and then. The long-term deficit is driven by the aging of the population as well as by growing health-care costs, both contributing to Social Security and Medicare expenses. There is simply no way to close the gap by taxing a handful of high earners. The House actions echo President Obamas unrealistic campaign promise that he can build a larger, more progressive government while raising taxes on only the wealthiest.

You are paranoid arent you?

Your little ongoing flame war got you that shook up that now everybody is doh?

In some of my very first posts on this site you and HP accused me of being someone else.

You must be very scared of this Doh.

Guess he must have toasted you pretty bad huh?

Want to keep an eye just in case right?

Sorry to disappoint you but I am not Doh, Dorothy, BDD or any other poster.

I post under BPS. I dont need a bunch of names to support my own posts or feed me lines like some hum fb?

To answer your question, yes you did miss something.

Out of courtesy and since you might be A-ADD, let me help you out with what the post actually said in short form:

The DOJ pulled the orders instead of continuing the court case. They couldnt or wouldnt defend your anointed ones clam to being native born. That was the major victory. The case goes on as other members of the military have joined the suit so more will be coming.

But maybe you are not A-ADD, maybe you just arent civilized enough to show the courtesy to bother to read others posts before you bother to comment.

Hum I seem to remember that you said that one time? Yep, a little searching the net and I quote:

Yep, sounds just like a lot of your posts. Accuse someone of being a shill and make poorly thought out statements with out even reading the content you comment on.

Now back to the real topic:

Of course as I belive you or another of your little group of personalities has said- even if it is true there is little chance now that the truth of this will ever come out.

Your anointed one has had more than enough time and had access to more than enough resources that the required documents and supporting files surely show the right information by now.

It is interesting though that those members of the military which you and your cohorts have shown so much disrespect for in the past are the ones standing up and challenging this.

Anyway, you poked the bear, now you can go back to your little flame war.

You have fun now. Be sure to keep an eye out for that nasty old Doh, you cant know where he will come from next.

Hope you dont get toasted again (at least not to badly). lol "

FactCheck.org has also extensively researched the subject. Their conclusion: Born in the U.S.A. But Fox News has started reporting on birthers without noting the baselessness of their claims, and in ways that lend legitimacy to their efforts.

-------------

Sigh, havent we been through this same argument that you have used several times before HP?

Poor old HP, you just dont understand why all those nasty ol people out there dont love your anointed one like you do.

Again, here are just SOME of the problems those old nasty dissenters have:

First of all what you refer to as a birth certificate isnt. It is simply a Hawaiian Certification of Live Birth.

The Hawaiian certification of live birth that Obama posted on his website as proof of birth would not be accepted in Hawaii for most legal use and doesnt meet most federal government requirements for proof.

All known images of this document are a poorly scanned copy of only one side and it does not contain any information about which hospital he was born at or who the attending physician was.

It has only been offered as an image on the internet.

It cannot and has not been verified and offers no proof of anything. A copy of the back side has never been furnished as an image or in any other form.

Certifications of live birth were widely issued to Hawaiians born in foreign countries in 1961, the year Obama was born.

No irrefutable evidence or verifiable documents exists that definitively proves when, where or how the President was born.

I could go on, as I have said in previous posts, I have no idea if he is or isnt and my biggest concern is:

Why hasnt he just had the Hawaiian agency issue a certified copy of the long form birth certificate that does list all appropriate information.

If that was done and what he has said is true, it would be legally acceptable and would shut up all nay Sayers?

In fact it would make them all look like fools.

It cant be the cost because it is estimated he has spent over a million bucks to hide and protect these and all others of his documents. What does a certified copy cost, ten bucks?

As I just posted to your old buddy fb, at this point it probably doesnt matter.

Even if the allegations were true, it is a sure bet your anointed one has had more than enough time and access to the right resources to make sure all the right copies and records now exist.

Sad isnt it?

If he had released it when he was first asked all of this could have been avoided. Now it goes on forever. "

NEW YORK Heralding the NAACP for a century of courage and progress, President Barack Obama will come before the nation's oldest civil rights organization Thursday with a message of shared responsibility: Government can help communities, but people are in charge of helping themselves.

Obama, the nation's first black president, is to deliver comments over dinner at the civil rights group's 100 convention.

The speech is Obama's first so directly linked with race since he took office; the White House says Obama has worked on it for about two weeks.

"It's about, in large part, the courage that it took to start the NAACP 100 years ago, and some of the things that they've gone through in the organization and in the community, and what the next 100 years looks like," White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters traveling with Obama.

Obama will make clear that while the government can help, "individuals will have to take responsibility," according to Burton. The president is expected to make that point, in particular, on matters of education and economic opportunity.

The ice sheets breaking off won't raise the level of water, but why do you think they broke off? - Because the ocean temp has risen. Ice sheets reflect more of the sun's heat back into space than water does, so the ocean temp will increase and melt more ice, etc. Also, some ice sheets hold back glaciers that are not floating, so glacial melt would increase the level of the ocean.

Becky, I don't know where you get your information from, but it is overwhelmingly clear that climate change is happening. There is some disagreement about how to model the effects of the changes, because of the complex interactions of weather, climate, etc., but no reputable scientist familiar with the data would disagree that climate change is occuring. Considering that she is an Hispanic, I would question the wisdom of that line of attack. And so they have- The only jobs that Obama can claim were "saved" were public-sector jobs, and even then, he's misrepresenting what would have happened in the absence of Porkulus and its state grants. The states would have had to cut jobs, but they would have had a wide range of choices for cutbacks; its highly unlikely that they would have started with teachers, police officers, and firefighters. They would have started with bureaucrats - who belong to the SEIU for the most part, one of the Democratic Party's most important contributors.

Mr. Dumnledore nailed your behavior dead on. Caught you dead to rights and exposed what you have been doing (and so forcefully denying) for so long.

Best of all he did it with your own posts and theres nothing but your own words and the truth exposed. The poster didnt use a single blast, slam, or mean spirited attack directed against you personally.

Bet that upset you, Hum HP?

It looks like your first post was like you normally do. You scan just enough of it to throw out a typical HP meaningless response on your common theme.

Bet you gulped hard on the second read.

Bet it was a hard read, seeing your little tricks, twist and turns exposed in your own words, realizing that your first response just showed your hypocrisy yet again.

I must sadly somewhat agree with you TQ.

But I would say the HP, Dohbaugh, and other assorted caste of charters was already cracked to begin with for being so blatant about it, being mean with it and then lying about doing it.

Pretty childish behavior for someone of his supposed age.

I found out when I was a young sprout that once you get caught in a lie, there isnt much you can do but apologize.

Once you admit to your bad behavior, heck almost everybody forgives and forgets.

When you keep lying it just makes it worse.

Me, I could care less about how many names someone uses.

It actually makes it easier to counter their combined arguments (more chances to respond).

But as Larry the cable guy says: I dont care who you are (even you TQ) have to admit that there was funny. "

I can't understand how increased government spending ( taxes on the people) in most all cases has ever helped the people? The constitution of this great nation specifically stated that the government will not tax the income of it's citizen's labor, only the profits of companys. A new breed of man running company's in the late 1800's influenced our elected officials to change our constitution and in the early 1900's bills were proposed to tax the people. To my knowledge these bills were never ratified, ( never became law!!!)though the people today are intimidated to pay more and more. Elected officials have a great obligation to the public, but few show it, even fewer live it. Most elected officials talk a good game, "BUT" when it's time for the patriots to stand they look to themselves and their own well being, what they can gain for themselves and not to the peoples needs. Where are the Mr. Smiths ( a good man named Stewart "1939") in my opinion that's our main problem today. Men are not elected to be proffessional politicians, they are elected to serve a short while, to better the public good and wellfare and advance this great nation set forth and defended to the death by our forefathers. I want to say this next....I'm am not against most foreign religions...and feel we are a people based on religious freedom! To worship as we choose, where we choose!! "BUT" this nation was founded with it's belief in "GOD", our wars have been fought supposedly against evil, on GODS behalf, the behalf of goodness and the right (righteousness)and rectitude of life, that all men are created equal!!! It is extremely sad...with great heartache, and remorse that I see our elected people becoming more and more distanced from the people that are voting them into office. The common man is hurting, his family is being slowly destroyed, his "GOD BLESSED " way of life is slipping away. Elected officials are becomming it's peoples god, ....and the people weep!!!! jmadis "
