Dog And Suds keeps canines (and cats) spiffy
Owner recommends grooming for dogs every 6 to 8 weeks

MATTOON — While the name may sound familiar, Dog And Suds is not a root beer stand.

Located southwest of Mattoon at 6373 N. County Rd. 400E, the dog grooming shop provides personalized dog care for pet lovers looking to keep their dog (or cat) in tip-top condition.

“People love their pets and want to keep them looking nice,” owner Marla Scoles said.

The shop should not be confused with Dog N’ Suds, the old-fashioned hot dog and root beer restaurant in Charleston.

Scoles opened her shop in March.

A typical grooming session at Dog And Suds will include a massage, a bath, blow drying and a pet cut or styling, she said.

Scoles offers specialized, “one-on-one service,” meaning she will only work on one dog at a time.

A quiet, comfortable environment is provided because dogs should enjoy being groomed, she said.

One groom at Dog And Suds may take up to two hours.

“I don’t rush the process,” she said. “We go slow and get to know each other.”

The shop is located in her home, although she built a separate area in the garage just for Dog And Suds. Her shop includes “state-of-the-art equipment,” she said, including a hydraulic grooming table and a Groomer’s Helper restraint system.

Scoles recommends getting one’s dog groomed every six to eight weeks, especially in the summer. Otherwise, a dog’s hair may become matted and grow so long they can’t see.

The shop is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prices vary depending on the size of the dog: small dogs cost $18 to $20, while large dogs cost between $23 and $35.

Scoles also offers smaller services like baths for $10 to $15 and nail trims for $5.

Cat grooms are $18 and $20.

Customers must make an appointment in advance. Scoles can be reached at 258-8710.
