LETTER: Working people pay to balance public budgets

LLOYD DEAN, Arthur

A very well written article appeared on the Opinions page of the JG/T-C Monday, June 15, concerning the Douglas County taxes being increased at a time when income is being decreased if a person is lucky enough to still have a job.

An ambitious person will buy a less than ideal home, spend his weekends and evenings creating a decent, habitable home in which to house his family, only to be devastated by a tremendous tax bill the following year.

At this same interval of time, another person will waste his income, live beyond his means, accumulate credit card debt, and be eligible for low income housing where there are no taxes to pay and receive all kinds of assistance with utilities, food stamps, medical card, etc.

Our elected elite are certainly not interested in making any sort of sacrifice in order to balance the budget, and the only way they can keep up is to raise taxes. Simple for them, disastrous to the working person.

Political affiliation has nothing to do with the public good, it is every elected person for himself, and the working man pays it all.

LLOYD DEAN

Arthur

" I for one am sick and tired of hearing from those in Springfield and in Washington how taxes must be raised and cuts to various services must be made and so on and so forth and NEVER once have any of them mentioned cutting their own pay and or benefits/perks. "

" I for one am getting sick of local politicians harping about taxes MUST be raised or the sky will surely fall...and nothing of any real community benefit seems to get done -- let alone the ones in Springfield and Washington.

There is one way to address the problem: no more votes for the people who do this to us, and speak up when they pull these stunts while in office (might as well make them actually DO something while they are in, even if it's only fielding voters' questions and complaints). "

" You might as well build walls around New York, and Washington, because they don't have to live in the "real" world.

"Lets Tax": gas, cigarettes, and Big Mac's,...heck tax everything !!

They don't care... they ride the rail, or have Drivers paid by us.

They might as well be their own countrys, with us folks paying their budgets!! "

" Very well said Lloyd and Jim.

You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care
of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it." "

" Actually learned something new on the news tonight. I was not aware that our lawmakers get paid overtime. They get something like $130 some odd dollars for everyday they are in session beyond the normal time.

Totally ridiculous.

And just for the record I have fired off emails to Rose, Righter and Quinn about all of this many times as well as phoned in my displeasure. I also have not voted for an incumbent in 20 years. "

" Working people need to balance their budgets? Not if they work for Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan Chase, Capital One or dozens of other "capitalist" corporations. They can run their companies into financial ruin through reckless fraud, get bailed out by U.S. taxpayer billions and pay themselves millions in personal bonuses for the privilege. None of that silly "budget balancing" is necessary at all. "

the working class has ALWAYS paid budgeted funds through taxes.....

come up with a new complaint that actually stirs people. "

" June 27 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. STOCKS FELL, pushing the Standard & Poors 500 Index to the first back-to-back weekly declines since March, after the World Bank said the recession will be deeper than previously forecast and the highest savings rate in 15 years signaled consumers may pare spending.

The DOLLAR DROPPED, pushing a gauge of its performance against currencies from six trading partners to a two-week low.

Chinas central bank REITERATED A CALL FOR A WORLDWIDE CURRENCY, adding to speculation that the country will diversify its cash reserves, the worlds largest at more than $1.95 trillion.

EQUITIES RETREATED yesterday as the Commerce Department said the savings rate among Americans reached 6.9 percent in May, the highest since December 1993, spurring concern that consumer spending will wane.

The U.S. ECONOMY SHRANK AT 5.5% ANNUAL RATE IN THE FIRSY QUARTER, capping the WORST 6-MONTH PERFORMANCE IN HALF A CENTURY, according to a Commerce Department report.

The NUMBER OF AMERICANS filing claims for UNEMPLOYMENT benefits unexpectedly ROSE last week, a reminder that companies will keep cutting staff even as the economy stabilizes.

Hey I know...let's raise the minimum wage... give away free sandwiches and fair rides...and raise taxes on our energy and healthcare costs!

OBAMULISM AT WORK!

SICS! and then ROFLMAO! "

" The reason for the money shortage is due to the devaluation of the federal reserve note..(dollar). The fed and our treasury just prints up money out of thin air, poors those dollars into the economy devaluing the dollar rapidly. That's why we are all feeling the hurt. Nothing's going to be accomplished until we get a sound money sysmtem reinacted. You know, like the ones Garfield, Lincoln and Kennedy proposed....oh yeah, they were assisinated weren't they. Ya think maybe they were on to something here? "

" Now the first part is have to say, if Douglas County wants to keep its services maybe then tax increases are necessary. Then the rest I say Huzzah! agreed the elite continue to ruin this country. That is the disastrous effect of Representative Democracy and or Democratic Republics.

It takes less effort to condemn than to think.

All government in essence," says Emerson, "is tyranny." It matters not whether it is government by divine right or majority rule. In every instance its aim is the absolute subordination of the individual.
