Free sunscreen stations added
at Casey and Oakland pools

CHARLESTON —In an effort to proactively fight skin cancer, Sarah Bush Lincoln has set up free sunscreen stations at the public pools in Casey and Oakland this summer.

In addition, the health center is continuing to provide free sunscreen at the Mattoon and Charleston pools for a second summer.

New stations have been set up at both the Casey swimming pool in Fairview Park and the Oakland swimming pool, which are now open.

According to a health center news release, skin cancer is the most common cance, with more than a million new cases  reported each year in the U.S.

"Most could have been prevented with proper skin care protection. Providing free sunscreen gives the Health Center an opportunity to help create healthier communities, one of its missions," the release said.

"In order to get maximum benefits from sunscreen, it should be applied 30 minutes before going outside and then re-applied every two hours or right after swimming, toweling off, sweating or strenuous exercise."

For more information about the sunscreen stations, contact the SBL public relations department at 258- or 348-2113
