Missionary visits Baptist churches

American Baptist missionary Kristy Engel recently visited several Baptist churches in the area, including First Baptist of Mattoon, First Baptist Church in Charleston, and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cooks Mill.

Engel, on home assignment, just received an advanced nursing degree from Columbia, Mo. She uses her nursing and education skills in working with the Good Samaritan Hospital in La Romana, Dominican Republic.

She provides medical services to Haitians, who are among the poorest in the country. Engel uses her dog Kobe to help teach hygiene to children by brushing his teeth and grooming him.

Besides her work in the hospital and villages, she oversees many American work teams on short-term mission trips.

While in Mattoon Engel spoke to all the Sunday School classes and the “Can Do Circle.”

Becky Cooper from the Mattoon First Baptist Church is part of her missionary partner team, which helps coordinate and publicize Engel’s missionary work.
