Lillyville church hosts Prayer Vigil for Life

LILLYVILLE — Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lillyville recently hosted the May Prayer Vigil for Life.

The Rev. Sylvano Pera was the celebrant and homilist for the Mass.

Rob McKerrow, deanery secretary, was the reader of scripture. Praying the rosary preceded the Mass.

During the business meeting, information about embryonic stem cell was provided.

The National Committee for a Human Life amendment is urging everyone to send messages to the U.S. Congress opposing any legislation promoting destructive embryonic stem cell research and to send comments to the National Institutes of Health.

In other business:

- The 35th annual day of prayer for the preborn child will be June 24 at St. Francis Church, Teutopolis. The Rev. Tom Euteneuer, Human Life International president, will be the guest priest for the 7:30 p.m. closing services.

-Marlene Roepke, Lisa Niemeyer and Sue Thoele reported they attended a Right to Life spring banquet in Vandenburg County, Ind., where Gov. Sarah Palin was the keynote speaker.

- It was reported that Congressmen John Shimkus and Timothy Johnson had signed letters sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama, in defense of the Hyde Amendment and in opposition to the Freedom of Choice Act.

- Everyone is urged to participate in the Family Life Center Baby Bottle Project in progress until Father’s Day.

Representatives from St. Anthony, Effingham; St. Mary, Neoga; St. Michael, Sigel; St. Isidore, Dieterich; Sacred Heart, Effingham; St. Francis, Teutopolis; St. Clare, Altamont; St. Mary, St. Elmo; and Sacred Heart, Lillyville, were present.

The next prayer vigil for life will be scheduled at the Immaculate Conception Church, Mattoon, on June 15.
