LETTER: Obama's power grab will lead to a 'fiery crash'

BILL FORCE, Charleston

He weaves. He bobs. He wobbles. He lurches. He slurs.

While I guess this is typical drunken behavior, the problem goes deeper than that.

You see, this guy, let’s call him Bob, isn’t simply a town drunk, Otis Campbell style, presumably ruining only his own sad, sorry life.

Bob has a big job; he’s way up there in government, and makes life and death decisions; for soldiers, for citizens, for an entire country.

Worse, up to now, all of those decisions have not just been calamitousness in a here and now state, but, as if 10,000 time bombs have been armed and set, some of the horrific damage will be done sooner, other later.

The seriousness of the situation? Perhaps a metaphor would help explain.

Bob is like a drunk driver, gas pedal to the floor, going the wrong way on the exit ramp of a California freeway, backlit by dawn’s early light.

A family-filled car is entering the freeway at 45 miles an hour.

They’re 200 feet apart. Two hundred feet from eternity.

Of course, Bob isn’t his real name.

And I’m not just talking about a fiery, family-killing car crash.

This guy goes by the name of Barack. He’s president of the United States.

And if there was a breathalyzer test for someone drunk with power, the brown-eyed handsome man would be off the scale.

Whose fault?

Well, if we put everyone who voted for Obama (essentially giving him license to kill this republic) on trial for reckless endangerment of a country, their defense would have to be either temporary insanity or permanent senility.

For having such a destructive force sitting in the Oval Office is like playing Russian Roulette with the land of liberty, from sea to shining sea.

Epilogue:

Part of the reason for missive; the many nationwide editorial suggestions that Telebama’s actions are simply a series of a very liberal and inexperienced, president’s missteps, miscalculations, mistakes.

I say, “Poppycock.”

People, smell the coffee. These Barackian creatures hate this country and everything it stands for with a passion usually reserved for child molesters.

Their intention is your country’s ruination, not to mention the stuffing of Democratic pockets with gazillions of greenbacks. They are the Stalins and Lenins of our time.

Drunk with power. And then some.

Scienter. Barack and his band of brothers have it by the truckload.

BILL FORCE

Charleston

" The level of discourse on cable "news" is moronic. The discussion of "closing Gitmo" panders SOLELY to the irrational fears of know-nothings and ignores the fact that it DOESN'T MATTER where they are imprisoned. The issue is what their legal fate is to be.
We have the absurdity of people who are referred to by the innocuous euphemism of "detainees" being treated as if they are all unstoppable Godzillas who can smash prison walls at will. In our modern America in Wonderland, being "detained" means "permanently imprisoned without legal rights." "

" Well, that is a strange letter but I agree that we are in deep crap. Not because Obama is black. Not because I didn't vote for him. We are in deep crap because WE THE PEOPLE have let Republicans and Democrats...POLITICIANS have too much power. They truly are drunk with it. It isn't about money. It is about control. We, as a country, may never recover from the last several years' abuse from politicians. Bush (Sr & Jr, too actually) wanted a New World Order. Obama wants a New World Order. The Bill & Hillary tag team wants a New World Order. It is all the same agenda and neither party actually cares about us. They are too concerned with ushering in this new wave of control. The thing is these politicians do not wish for the same things that we do because they are in a completely different place than we are. They know exactly what we want and they tell us they want the same things but the reality is just the opposite. Watch what these people say and then watch what they do. None of them have the capability of being honest or truly concerned for our nation. We have been far too trusting as a collective whole and far too removed from the reality that we are facing today. Some changes are good and should be welcomed for a certainty but most of what is happening in our country today is not what is best for our country and it has been coming for several years. Both Sr & Jr Bush would have LOVED to be at the helm when this New World Order is put into action but the truth of the matter is that neither one of them has the charisma and balls to push as hard as Obama. Obama also has a lot of latitude simply because he is black and he knows he has leeway because of it. We are so politically correct that we are duped into thinking that we can't even acknowledge the fact that God only knows how many people voted for him just because he is black. It is ridiculous. The bottom line is we are in serious trouble. Our rights and protections are evaporating like an early morning fog while we just sit around waiting for it to get better. It isn't going to get any better. It is going to get far worse and ultimately everyone of us will realize it...but by then it will be too late to change anything...unless we can get our sh*t together and stop arguing over stupid stuff. As someone said on another post recently, "As long as there are people doing what you're doing, we'll be doing what we're doing." or something to that effect. Almost as if only to be downright disagreeable and forgetting the idea of having a solution to anything. Let's just argue about everything because you didn't vote for the same person as I did. We will never get anywhere like that. "

Why can't any of you have a civil debate instead of throwing "parties" into it. I don't give a rat's a$$ what political party you are just wake up anmd look around you to what is happening to your nation. It's going to hell in a hand basket and all you do is blame one party or the other. Why don't you all get off your dead a$$es and do something to help change things so we can have the great nation that we once had????? Our military men/women didn't fight (and some gave the ultimate sacrifice) for the many freedoms we have just for them to be taken away from us one by one. When you do wake up and see that it's to late then ask yourselves what you did to help prevent it. (And by the way, I didn't vote for either one of the parties candidates. So you can't throw the blame this way for what you have now) !!!!! "

And when it comes right down to the end I think for the most part we all know who the Big boss is gonna be,but why does he sit back and let all this happen? Who knows, he created all this, and obviously this is how it's supposed to be played out. "

Absolutely hilarious! Republicans are concerned over Pelosi's comments but appear to have no problem with Cheney's orders to torture captured enemies. Pelosi's actions were not criminal, Cheney's was.

I doubt the public will buy this distraction on the part of the GOP. Cheney's actions beg for an investigation. Why should this war profiteer and torturer be above the law? He should be behind bars.

The more the party

Apparently it is only considered a crisis if you love our country. Henry Kissinger is one of those educated people who do more harm than good in not even realizing how far off base he is. So intelligent but no common sense...or more appropriately...no sense for the common man. We are definitely in trouble.

" The Question wrote: "Until the corporate media display we got today, I wasn't aware that Barack Obama has a "co-presidency" with Dick Cheney."

A possible explanation:

On the campaign trail, B.O.:

---promised to get the troops out of the Middle East as soon as possible; most likely by the end of 2009. Turns out he just sent MORE troops into Afghanistan.

---Promised to close Gitmo. Could have been done on Jan. 21 if he and the dem-controlled congress had really wanted it to happen. Now he's pushed it off until 1-Jan-2010. Bet ya THAT doesn't happen, either.

---Bashed Bush on military commissions, and vowed to get rid of them and give all prisoners habeus corpus rights; now he's reinstating the commissions for the 50-100 detainees who can't be tried in U.S. courts due to harsh interrogations or hearsay evidence, but are too dangerous to be set free.

Looks like many of the predictions by Obama's pre-election opponents are coming true; B.O. got a look at these little angels' files and dirtied his diaper. Bambi wasn't ready for the wolf's den, and he's completely lost. Letting these guys go on a technicality is not like the O.J. debacle or a mobster greasing his way out of a conviction; these guys CAN and WILL kill more Americans if set free. The CIA knows it, Bush knew it, and now B.O. knows it.

Looks like Obama has embraced Bush's terror policies; we might as well have Cheney's take - saves time, too. Obama doesn't have to make/change policies on an hourly basis; he can just wait a few days and do whatever Cheney said to.

Can't use Biden's advice - that'd be like listening to a six year old schizophrenic with Tourette's.

Pelosi has proven herself to a flat-out liar, a not a very good one at that; even the dems are running from her. You've really got to be arrogant to make statements that easily unclassified documents can disprove. "

The Question wrote on May 21, 2009 4:34 PM:

" Pelosi's allegation is perfectly credible, and is backed by history. The Nicaraguan Contras, cocaine trafficking, domestic spying, the Vietnam war, WMD, torture -- it would be hard to find a topic the CIA HASN'T lied to Congress and the American people about. Lying is the CIA's business, its essential stock in trade.
I do find all this amusing. Remember when all the right-wingers here joined in the chorus screaming that the National Intelligence Estimate about Iran was a pack of lies? Now those liars in the CIA are sainted truth-tellers, but only as long as it serves the interests of right-wing propaganda. "

Men who were marginal or NOT terrorists (just in the wrong place at the wrong time) will be full-blown American haters when they are released. Our treatment of them has assured that.Instead of giving them a quality education, teaching them job skills, treating them with respect, (which we could have done while they were being held), we tortured them, deprived them of legal rights, showed them just how cruel and evil and hypocritical Americans are. " Ms Humphries:
It seems that YOU are the one who hasn't paid attention to the news , other than to the talking heads who 'feel tingles up (their) legs' while thinking about Obama.

The Obama administration, like the Bush administration before, has TRIED to release all but the most dangerous 50-100 held at Gitmo to their home countries - or any other country outside the U.S, for that matter - NO ONE WILL TAKE THEM!!! Look it up. No, MSNBC would not be a good place to start your research. That is why the closing of Gitmo will not happen any time soon. There's nowhere to put these guys. The ones to be released, do you suggest we just set them on the porch at the Kabul airport, ring the doorbell and run? Should we FORCE the countries that spawned these angels to take them back?

Also in this week's news, the FBI ran a sting operation in which three ex-cons bought what they thought were bombs and surface to air missiles from an undercover agent. The 'bombs' were planted outside synagogues in New York. The SAM was to be used to down a U.S. military aircraft. These were U.S. citizens. Where did they convert to Islam and hatch their jihad against the Jews and the U.S.? A U.S. PRISON! Really.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6337967.ece

As for the 'mistreatment' of the Gitmo detainees, the average weight gain of the guests at Club Gitmo is 20 pounds.
It is reported that some really like Froot Loops and Doritos(seriously). The guards wear plastic face shields to protect them from possible spitting prisoners. I dunno about the Coles County Jail, but spitting in the face of a guard in most prisons would net you at least a concussion and a few stitches, as it should. The Quran is handled with cotton gloves, the prisoners are allowed their 5 times a day prayers toward Mecca, and dogs, which are considered 'unclean' by Muslims, are not allowed to search the cells.

Now, I don't wanna be locked up anywhere, but Gitmo sounds quite a bit nicer than, say, Marion or Vandalia.
They behead and murder their captives, they hang U.S. soldiers' mutilated bodies from public bridges. We give them Froot Loops and Doritos, a nice warm bed, state of the art healthcare, and an occasional hazing. Sounds like they have the better end of the deal.
These people were caught on foreign soil as 'enemy combatants', not prisoners of war. They have no Geneva Convention rights, since they were not members of a uniformed foreign military unit. They were not read their rights, given access to counsel, etc. etc. etc. They CANNOT be convicted in a the American criminal justice system; the witnesses are dead or otherwise unavailable, any confessions or statements made under duress are inadmissible in U.S. courts, so basically, they can't be prosecuted in our courts. If they are held in our prisons, they should have the same rights as any U.S. prisoner, no? So, by that logic, they WOULD be released into our streets. We can't very well airdrop them in the desert; they might land on a camel or snake and get PETA all freaked out.
So, they'll be full-blown America haters. Like they weren't before? They were caught plotting or carrying out acts of violence toward American interests or military personnel, and you want to send them to LakeLand College or EIU and get them a job? Like B.O., you've obviously voiced your opinion without thinking things through. "

Now Colin's Powell's top aide has revealed that Cheney kept his policy actions secret even from Bush. I'm sure Cheney usurped as much power as possible from Bush, who was nothing but a usefully moronic dauphin. But Bush retained the responsibility of his office, whether or not he knew or understood much of what was going on. So both he and Cheney are war criminals. After all, Bush himself has always been in favor of punishment, even capital punishment, for criminals of subnormal intelligence.

James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr. (born October 1, 1924) was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981 and was the recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize. As president, Carter created two new cabinet-level departments: the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. He established a national energy policy that included conservation, price control, and new technology. In foreign affairs, Carter pursued the Camp David Accords, the Panama Canal Treaties and the second round of Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT II). Carter sought to put a stronger emphasis on human rights; he negotiated a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979. After leaving office, Carter and his wife Rosalynn founded The Carter Center, a nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization that works to advance human rights. He has traveled extensively to conduct peace negotiations, observe elections, and advance disease prevention and eradication in developing nations. Carter is a key figure in the Habitat for Humanity project,[2] and also remains particularly vocal on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

" Excellent post at 12:58, Medic. You did a good job in pointing out the achievements of Carter. They far outshine Bush's accomplishments which was getting thousands of people killed in an uncalled for war, which is about all Bush and Cheney have to show for their 8 years. Carter's biggest mistake was to leave too many of the Nixon people in positions of power. And compare Carter's actions after leaving the White House with, oh say Ford's. About all Ford did was get himself appointed to about a dozen or more corporate boards, which all paid big bucks for a couple of meeting a year, making Ford a very rich man. Bush Jr and Cheney aren't fit to shine Carter's shoes. What president in history has done more for mankind after leaving the White House than Carter? I dare say none. Moron indeed. "

Don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out. There's enough whiners on this site now. So bye bye...

For your information, I am a veteran and put flags on several relatives graves this Memorial day. You've not see any derogative comments directed toward the troops on this site from me. Being against the war in Iraq is not the same thing as being anti military, and has nothing to do with my freedom of speech. You're just seeing what you want to see. I normally don't defend what others say, but I would say the same thing goes for the other two posters you whined about.

And I suppose you're not aware that about all of the things the Swift Boaters said about Kerry proved to be outline lies and exaggerations, and that whole campaign was paid for by a right wing extremist. You won't hear that on Fox news or from the drug addict Rush Limbaugh.

And yup, for the most part I do identify with the Democratic Party, as the majority of Americans do now.

Again, bye bye... "

The Question wrote on May 25, 2009 3:47 PM:

" The real enemy of the ranting, talk radio-addled fringe group that now controls the Republican Party isn't the Democratic Party. It's civilization itself.
Openly or covertly, they regard free speech, reason, compassion, public education, civil rights, civil liberties and science as liberal vices to be eradicated. Truth, too. Hence the ease with which they lie.
They despise the Constitution and art, regarding both as subversive. Their porcine pontiff, Rush Limbaugh, doesn't even know the difference between the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
The very idea of torture appeals to them. They like it and defend it.
They worship, or pretend to worship, fundamentalist religion. It's so useful for manipulating the morons. They actually DO worship guns, money and fascist power, with all the fervor in their black little hearts. "

The Question wrote on May 25, 2009 7:05 PM:

" I am concerned that the Republicans have too much on their plate, and are just trying to do too much at once. They should confine themselves to what they do best -- spitting venom and acidic bile into the faces of their political rivals in vicious attempts to disfigure them -- and leave the policy matters, which they don't really understand anyway, to Democrats. I am worried about those Republicans. The poor dears are spreading themselves too thin. "

Harry Potter wrote on May 25, 2009 8:47 PM:

" I heard Rush Limbaugh moaning about how things are looking better economically, and it sounds like he is absolutely horrified that Obama might get the credit. Hmmmm... and I wonder if they don't turn around will he blame Obama. I think Limbaugh is praying the economy won't get better. That pathetic piece of crud is pure evil. He would rather see the economy fail so he can claim he was right. All Republicans should be so proud of their symbolic leader, Limbaugh. I know Cheney is proud of him. Some endorsement, huh? The party of no is now being lead by Cheney, Limbaugh, Palin, Joe the fake plumber, Ann Coulter and the like. No wonder only 20% of the American public is willing to admit that they consider themselves Republicans. Can you really blame them? "

(You see, instead of grabbing the bad guys ourselves and handing them over to Jordanian or Pakistani intel for interrogation, Obama is now leading their guys to the suspects and letting them take it from there. This approach is different because it seeks to keep the prisoners out of American custody altogether.) Clever no? "

Meeting with veterans groups and visiting the families of those killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan? Nope.

Four hours on the links, staying in Washington after the ceremony at Arlington instead of flying back to Camp David as he was originally scheduled? Yep. "

The Question wrote on May 26, 2009 10:03 AM:

" The right-wingers have seen the bloody, historic ruin that has been caused by the insane policies for which they shouted their support. The United States still stands at the brink of moral and economic disaster, thanks to the worst presidential administration in history, headed by a Republican as vicious as he is vacuous, whose every stupid, garbled utterance was defended by the right wingers.
Just look at them now, still squawking pathetically about "liberals" and "capital gains taxes" and "Democraps" and "cut and run." Theyre like chickens in the slaughterhouse, feverishly searching for somebody weaker they can peck to death as a way to distract themselves before the inevitable ax falls. "

Harry Potter wrote on May 26, 2009 10:06 AM:

" I seem recall a certain VP saying it was unAmerican and unpatriotic to criticise the administration, especially during a war. Well, the war is still on, so why is Cheney out there criticizing the current administration? To make matters worse, he's even got his family in on the act. Talk about hypocrisy!

Note* a recent poll taken among registered Republicans show that almost 70% wish Cheney would shut up and go away. He needs to follow the example being set by his old boss, who to his credit, is not running all over the place trying to justify his illegal actions, such as torturing captured enemies. Cheney's actions seem to be nothing more than a preemptive strike aimed at getting public support in the event he gets tried for war crimes.

It ain't working, Dick. Your poll numbers are falling even faster than those of the ethically challenged Moose Queen, especially now that she ran out of oil company rebate checks to pass out to keep her popularity going.

Hey, wait a minute. There's an idea for the Republican party. A Cheney/Palin ticket or perhaps a Palin/Cheney ticket.

Nah, the right wingers would more likely go for a Palin/Joe the fake plumber ticket, with Rush Limbaugh taking over for Karl Rove role as the chief policy maker.

The good folks at Fox news could return to their flag waving and water carrying for the administration if those reprobates ever got into the White House. "

The party whose candidate, Ronald Reagan, kicked off his campaign with an appeal to "states' rights" in Philadelphia, Mississippi -- a town famous for a single thing, the murder of civil rights workers. The party whose candidate, George H.W. Bush, won election with the racist Willie Horton ad. The party that blocked black voters in Florida in 2000 and in Ohio in 2004. The party that proudly flies and defends the Confederate flag. The party that thrives on resentment against Mexican immigrants. The party that campaigns against fictional black "welfare queens" who drive Cadillacs and hands the keys of the U.S. treasury to the corporate CEO welfare queens who arrive in their private jets. The party whose candidate, Richard Nixon, designed a "Southern Strategy" to win the hearts and minds of racist white voters in the South. The party that thinks racism runs in only one direction -- reverse.
And that would be the "colorblind party" that is shocked, shocked by any hint of what it terms "racism" -- defined as any chance that someone other than an old white guy or a sellout token might acquire some power. "

" During the last election, thanks to a relentless GOP propaganda campaign aimed at know-nothings, craven and wretched reporting by the corporate media and the general thundering stupidity of the American public, what we were offered as "issues" were such topics as Hillary Clinton's capacity to sob, Barack Obama's middle name, the fear of his "secret Muslim religion," whether he and his wife indulge in "terrorist fist bumps," and HIS BOWLING SCORE.
This was what the moron voters in this country wanted to discuss while deregulated financial fraud collapsed the world economy. Just before the election, 23 percent of the brainless scum in Texas reported that they thought Obama was a Muslim. MORE THAN 40 PERCENT in Florida and Ohio said they did not know what his religion was.
With this nation populated by people as ignorant as the right wingers who write their vicious screeds to this newspaper, it's lucky we're not all dead already. "
