Zac Brown Band, Neverly Bros to take Bagelfest stage in July

MATTOON — Tickets are on sale for the Zac Brown Band, one of the main stage bands for the Bagelfest Celebration in July.

Zac Brown, a five-member country music band best known for the song “Chicken Fried,” will take the Bagelfest stage at 8 p.m. July 18 at Grimes Field. Tickets are now available by calling 258-6286 or 1-800-500-6286. Credit and debit card transactions are possible over the phone, and sales can be completed at Mattoon City Hall as well.

“We’ve sold a number of Zac Brown tickets already,” said Mattoon Tourism Coordinator Angelia Burgett. “They offer a classic country sound. People are excited about this band coming to town.”

The Neverly Brothers, a “Rock n’ Roll Evolution” band, will play at 8 p.m. July 17. Burgett said this three-member band offers Rockabilly, British Invasion and the Everly Brothers selections.

“They are from Chicago. We had them here before at the park. And they’ve performed at Decatur Celebration, too. This is one of the best combinations of bands we’ve had for Bagelfest,” Burgett said.

Bagelfest organizers are working to add another act to the weekend lineup.

The Bagelfest celebration cruises through July 15-18 under the theme “Ahoy Matie!”

“Yes, we have a pirate theme for this Bagelfest. We are accepting entry forms for the festival parade already as well as the Fourth of July Parade,” Burgett said.

She said this version of Bagelfest is being fine-tuned to offer the best bands, entertainment and vendors.

Bagelfest was started more than 20 years ago as a promotion of the Lenders bagel plant. Some of its traditional events include a free bagel breakfast, 5K and 10K races, beauty pageant, dog competition and talent show. Best of all, according to organizers, is the price to enter Peterson Park for all events except the main stage shows.

“Yes, admission is free to Bagelfest,” Burgett said.

That just shows you how far Bagelfest has fallen. "
