Reception planned at Tarble Atrium for Arts-in-Education artist

CHARLESTON — In conjunction with the Tarble Arts Center’s 2009 Illinois Arts Council Arts-in-Education Residency, a reception for the public will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Tarble Atrium.

Visitors will be able to view artist-in-residence Kelley Quinn’s works on display in the Tarble’s Brainard Gallery as well as student works from Central A&M High School, Moweaqua; Jefferson Elementary School, Charleston; and Lake Land College’s Pathways Program, created under her direction.

Quinn’s work references the spirituality of labyrinths and mandalas. Included in the exhibition are mosaics, wall installations of handmade paper and photo-based nature mandalas, and photographs of recent commissions.

Quinn received a master of arts degree in contemporary art history and criticism, with an emphasis in studio art, from Webster University, Webster Groves, Mo., in 1997. An Illinois Arts Council Roster artist, Quinn has created many works of public art and has participated in several group exhibitions.

The exhibition and residency are made possible by support from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency; the Tarble Arts Center; the Jaenike Access to the Arts Fund; the Coles County Arts Council; and area schools.

The Tarble Arts Center, a division of the Eastern Illinois University College of Arts & Humanities, is funded in part by Tarble membership contributions, the Tarble Arts Center Endowment, and by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

The Tarble Arts Center is located on south Ninth Street at Cleveland Avenue on the EIU campus in Charleston. Open hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

For more information call 581-ARTS (-2787) or e-mail tarble@eiu.edu.
