LETTER: Republicans offer little, except the word 'no'

TERRENCE McGUIRE, Stewardson

After eight years of Republicans saying yes to every whim their boss asked for, they finally have no in their vocabulary.

After eight years of our country falling to what we have today, they learn the word no. Every slug that Bush has, crawls to whatever TV station that will listen, and tells them what a great leader he was. That usually comes down to, we have not been attacked by terrorists.

The terrorists attacked during his term, with proved intell that says they were going to use planes. The leaders of the Republican Party get on TV and cry about the Democrats putting the country in fiscal economic peril. That is the height of ignorance, because we were there way before the Obama team got in.

The only thing I can remember about Bush and our monies were to fund his war in Iraq. To this day I truly believe Bush and Bin Laden were more than friends. Bin Laden, after all, attacked us, to break our financial district down. Well he and Bush did exactly that, plus some.

Does any Republican out there have a better plan than the Democrats, except to cut taxes, and let it trickle down like it’s been doing since that last wizard, Reagan.

The Republicans should stop saying no and try to get our country back or if nothing else shut up, because when they talk, they say nothing.

TERRENCE McGUIRE

Stewardson

" Republicans don't always say no, here are just a couple of examples:

The do say yes to more tax cuts for the super wealthy in this country, Terrence.

They say yes to physically torturing our enemies.

They do say yes to assault weapons in the hands of anyone who wants them.

They do say yes our invading any foreign country that we disagree with.

They do say yes to handing the keys to the federal treasury to the military contractors, such as Halliburton.

They do say yes to outfits like KBR to do shoddy work for the military.

They do say yes to allowing the paid mercenaries of Blackwater to kill innocent civilians.

They do say yes to no bid contractors who have contacts with the White House.

Yada yada yada....

But of course there are those who want to "move on" and push all this under the rug. "

" The extreme-left is desperately trying to take over every aspect of your life.
In case you haven't noticed, they're taking control of the banking industry, they're trying to take control of your family's healthcare, they're taking control of the auto industry and the energy industry... .
But, most horrifically, THEY'RE TRYING TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOU. And, make no mistake; the so-called $3.6 TRILLION BUDGET ABOMINATION IS THEIR MEANS TO DO IT.
Some critics, to borrow a phrase from the good folks at FreedomWorks, are saying that this $ 3.6 trillion budget abomination "taxes too much, spends too much, and borrows too much."
But the simple fact that $3.6 trillion is a mind-boggling figure is just one small piece of the puzzle.
The one thing that no one is really taking about (the 800 pound gorilla in the room) is that this $3.6 trillion budget abomination is ALSO the LARGEST AND MOST AMBITIOUS GOVERNMENT POWER GRAB IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY.
And if it passes, you can start to kiss the free-market system goodbye. If it passes, you can kiss your personal liberties goodbye.
Here are just a handful of the highlights:
Health Care: According to the typically pro-Obama New York Times: "Mr. Obama asked Congress to set aside $634 billion in a 'reserve fund for health care reform.' He provided no new information about how to cover the uninsured, saying he would work out the details with Congress later this year."
The Times also stated that Obama "would also increase premiums charged to Medicare beneficiaries...." No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Obama is asking Congress for $634 billion dollars of your money, is offering no clear plan as to what he wants to do with the money (he'll get to that later, after the money is appropriated) and wants to cut back on benefits. The only thing that is certain is the government will start taking money out of your pocket and start making your healthcare decisions for you.
Taxes: Moveon.org, while promoting the $3.6 trillion budget abomination, repeats the Obama mantra that it: "Reduces taxes for 95% of working Americans. And if your family makes less than $250,000, your taxes won't go up one dime."

The truth of the matter, however, is that this $3.6 trillion budget calls for a number of hidden taxes. One of these is a cap-and-trade energy tax which, according to The Wall Street Journal "would cost the average household in the bottom-income quintile about 3.3 percent of its after-tax income every year. That's about $680, not including the costs of reduced employment and output. The three middle quintiles would see their paychecks cut between $880 and $1,500, or 2.9 percent to 2.7 percent of income."

The Wall Street Journal concludes: "Cap and trade, in other words, is a scheme to redistribute income and wealth--but in a very curious way. It takes from the working class and gives to the affluent; takes from Miami, Ohio, and gives to Miami, Florida; and takes from an industrial America that is already struggling and gives to rich Silicon Valley and Wall Street 'green tech' investors who know how to leverage the political class."

Jobs: MoveOn.org claims the budget "Invests more than $100 billion in clean energy technology, creating millions of green jobs that can never be outsourced."

The folks at FreedomWorks have this to say: "The numbers being used here, like the numbers used in the stimulus debate, are deceptive in that they hide the less rosy bigger picture. It is a classic case of 'what is seen and what is not seen' as described so clearly by economists Frederic Bastiat and Henry Hazlitt. What is seen are the jobs that will certainly result from the government spending $100 billion. What is not seen are all the jobs that are lost because the government has to take those $100 billion out of one part of the economy to spend it somewhere else."
You're starting to get the picture. This $3.6 trillion budget has nothing to do with stimulating the economy, or making life better for the average Joe; unless, of course, you believe that the redistribution of YOUR income and government intrusion into YOUR life are good things.

Perhaps that's why Senator Judd Gregg called Obama's $3.6 trillion budget "an extraordinary move of our government to the left." Gregg added that President Obama "is proposing the largest tax increase in history..."

It's about time somebody said "NO". "

Yeah, sure they are. I guess you're just going to ignore the fact that the corporations are begging to be taken over and asking for millions of taxpayer money.

But hey, when did facts ever stop people from having knee jerk reactions?

Fun fact: America hasn't been a "free market" (in the sense youre using it) since the rise of Keynesian economics. We're what you call a "mixed economy" and have been that for quite some time. Too bad republicans didn't have anything to say when Bush used the broken window fallacy to help justify the Iraq war. "

Greed seems to have played a big part of the decisions made in the Bush regime, so perhaps our friends in Spain should use idea that with the reprobates from the Bush/Cheney team. "

" Sarah Palin is out and Newt Gingrich is in.

Congressional Republicans decided Tuesday to ditch the former GOP vice presidential nominee in favor of the former House speaker for the critical House-Senate fundraising dinner in June 8 in Washington. It's the marquee Republican event to raise money for GOP House and Senate candidates.

Just weeks ago, the House and Senate Republican campaign committees were giddy at securing the telegenic Palin for the dinner. But then things grew murky. At the time, the Alaska governor's office told FOX News that Palin was still considering the invitation and had not yet made a decision. Meantime, spokespersons for the committees insisted that Palin was scheduled and it was just a misunderstanding between the Alaska governor's office and Palin's political action committee, SarahPAC, that accepted the invite.

Sources familiar with the Palin snub fumed about how the governor handled this.

"She was a disaster," one Republican source told FOX News. "We had confirmation."

As for inviting Gingrich, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Ken Spain said the GOP "decided to go in another direction."

Another source familiar with the invitation indicated that the campaign committees were so incensed with Palin that they did not even bother to officially notify her that they rescinded the invitation.

Multiple efforts to reach Palin's staff in Alaska for comment were unsuccessful.

The decision to book Gingrich instead of Palin seems to be indicative of growing discontent in the party with the Alaska governor and her potential ability to lead the GOP. And it's the latest in a series of gaffes that have plagued her since the November.

Palin withdrew at the last moment from speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference meeting in Washington earlier this year.

Gee, what happened? LOL. "

Good point Q, I don't recall hearing so many claim they were Libertarians until lately. I think eddie miller was one of the first of regulars on this site to jump ship. And what about our old buddy Doh, did you notice that when he quit the other day, all of his "family" left too. Sort of confirms what some of us have been saying about old Cybil all along. lol! "

I did notice that, Harry. I guess that when their hero left, his cheerleading squad became too despondent to go on. Or could there be ANOTHER explanation? LOL. "

The Question wrote on Apr 7, 2009 8:38 AM:

" Republicans say only "no" now, but they said "yes, yes, yes!" to torture.
The full report from the Red Cross committee deeming CIA secret prisons "inhuman" has leaked and now even the medical officers hired to watch over detainees are being named complicit in the mistreatment and torture. Other techniques besides waterboarding were used to gain information, including shackling detainees with their arms overhead for days on end and threats of "electric shocks, infection with HIV, sodomy andbeing brought close to death." i'm laying odds he'll come back as yet another "newby" who is instantly accepted and egged on by his entourage and peers......seems that's the way he rolls. "

With that guy, you never know. He did seem like the type who would talk to himself. "

I agree, FB. He has done it before. He gets fed up with all his stubbornly held beliefs being proven so spectacularly wrong by reality, quits in abject frustration, then comes sneaking back as some new sock puppet. He will initially make that sock people seem "reasonable" in an attempt to trap us, his old archenemies. And like all cartoon villains, he will fail again. "

" A friend of mine had a great idea of a TV series "The Wasilla Hillbillies," exclusively on Fox. Each week new complications: Levi messing around with Bristol in the Governor's Mansion; sister-in-law Diana Palin on a personal crime-spree rampage; husband Todd inciting Alaska secession from the U.S.; the Tundra Princess on a wild personal shopping spree paid for by the Republican Party. The plot lines are endless, and all true. "

In case you haven't noticed, they're taking control of the banking industry, they're trying to take control of your family's healthcare, they're taking control of the auto industry and the energy industry... .

Well, I have no back account (and no matter what Judge Judy says, it is possible) I have no health or life insurance, I drive a 10 year old car and my utilities are higher than ever.

If they want to take control of my life, they're more than welcome. "

Your friend has a great idea, Q. I would like to suggest a theme for the opening credits: How about Sarah shooting an endangered species from a state owned helicopter while dropping off pamphlets about abstinence education.

I'm sure our friend RWB would like to join in with her suggestions too.

All joking aside, it's sort of scary to think that that clown and her tribe of yahoos and malcontents came close to getting to Washington to live off of our dime. If she had, I think she would have lasted less time than Spiro Agnew. I still say there is a whole lot of skeletons yet to surface with the moose queen. "
