LETTER: Obama should have vetoed big spending bill

LEONIDAS H. MILLER , Mattoon

“...those who have tried to degrade man and enslave him have first debased and misused language, arbitrarily turning meanings inside out.” — Lewis Mumford, “The Conduct of Life,” p. 44.

On March 11, 2009, President Obama signed a $410 billion (KKK) spending bill into law. In so doing he has failed America. Attempting to sound like President Reagan, he made some critical remarks about the budget but signed the bill anyway. To help America succeed, he should have vetoed the bill, telling Congress to try again to write a new clean and lean budget. Such an act would have matched his talk.

He has also failed America by failing to provide clarity in his attitude and intentions toward financial markets. He should lower rates of taxation across the board on income, capital gains, dividends, and interest earnings. If he does not wish to do that, then he should state what he does wish to do on these issues and stop trying to sound like Reagan. From such clarity, people in these markets could make decisions about investing toward economic recovery of some kind. Perhaps, by using taxpayer money, he intends for government to buy private corporations at bargain prices.

By seeking such a huge amount of spending, the one-party ruling elites of Washington, D.C., are failing America. That will include today’s American children and their children — if they have any. Because of the debt load passed to them, we will give new meaning to the tyranny of taxation without representation.

We need to derail this “spendaholic” train before it moves farther. If Obama chooses to drive it, he should fail.

President Lincoln ended slavery. Will Obama bring it back?

LEONIDAS H. MILLER

We were told that we were doomed unless Congress could pass these bloated pork bills immediately. Now even though most of the money spent is unused or unaccounted for, suddenly he is on TV talking about how great the economy is. I guess it's only a crisis when we need to attach a bunch of pork. His comment is obviously about economic slavery that we'll all be forced to endure if Barrack Obama is successful in converting our private enterprise system to socialism. And by the way, he's well on his way to doing just that. And, YES, just in case you're wondering, I do hope Obama fails! "

Excellent post!

Agree with you 100%- it is time to hold our elected officials accountable for their actions regardless of theirs or our party affiliations.

A fairly large majority of the people opposed Bush's bailout. It's the same with the Polisi/Reid/Obama porkulas and budget bills. Neither time did any of the officials listen.

The people have been telling them at all levels of government- but they don't listen.

It's time to start throwing them all out at each election. Maybe someone will listen then. "

" Becky (and cedric 66), I certainly agree with you about the party line thing.

Just this morning, when Obama spoke briefly touting his budget, he again mentioned the word "inherited" and he again told us that "Just say NO" wouldn't work. He admonishes the opposition party for not presenting ideas, and then promptly refuses to LISTEN to any ideas that aren't his own. We should turn up the volume so he can hear what the whole country is trying to tell him.

Who does this guy think he's fooling? With him, it's either my way or the highway. No change at all from what we've experienced in Washington DC for decades now.

The first third party candidate who emerges from this mess with good ideas and a new patriotic direction will get my support. The first thing we need to do is to repeal the 16th Amendment! FairTax.org.

Abolishing the IRS would solve most of the economic problems we now have. "

" Great blog from www.lp.org

Remember last year when the automakers came crawling to Congress for a taxpayer-funded bailout, and lawmakers demanded they be forced to make more hybrid cars because that's what people want?

Well, that turns out to be another great example of why Obama, the Democrats and the Republicans are wrong when they tell private businesses what to sell.

And if American automakers do go out of business, throwing millions into unemployment, it will be because of government.

From today's Los Angeles Times:

...But the slowdown has been particularly brutal for hybrids, which use electricity and gasoline as power sources. They were the industry's darling just last summer, but sales have collapsed as consumers refuse to pay a premium for a fuel-efficient vehicle now that the average price of a gallon of gasoline nationally has slipped below $2.

"When gas prices came down, the priority of buying a hybrid fell off quite quickly," said Wes Brown, a partner at Los Angeles-based market research firm Iceology. "Yet even as consumer interest declined, the manufacturers have continued to pump them out."

Last month, only 15,144 hybrids sold nationwide, down almost two-thirds from April, when the segment's sales peaked and gas averaged $3.57 a gallon. That's far larger than the drop in industry sales for the period and scarcely a better showing than January, when hybrid sales were at their lowest since early 2005...

...Yet automakers believe they have little choice but to make more hybrids. Though car buyers are losing interest, politicians are pushing them as key to reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil and limiting the global-warming gases that cars emit into the atmosphere.

In January, President Obama called on the industry to "thrive by building the cars of tomorrow" and prepare for federal and state regulations that could push average fuel economy above 40 miles per gallon by 2020.

"The automakers are in the situation of needing to pacify politicians that are in the position to bail them out with expensive fuel-efficient cars," said Rebecca Lindland, auto analyst with IHS Global Insight. "But shouldn't it be more about satisfying the needs of the American consumer?"

This is just another example of our Big Brother trying to legislate themselves into every aspect of our lives. Instead of developing better energy choices, we outlaw lightbulbs. Does this make any sense? What is next, outlawing plus-size clothing stores to combat obesity? "

Speaker Pelosi Caught Slamming US Immigration Policy!

Pelosi Tells Illegal Immigrants That Work Site Raids are Un-American

The speaker of the House told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants recently that enforcement of immigration laws in the United States is un-American.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group of both legal and illegal immigrants and their families that enforcement of existing immigration laws, as currently practiced, is un-American.

The speaker, condemning raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, referred to the immigrants she was addressing as very, very patriotic.

Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families? Pelosi told a mostly Hispanic gathering at St. Anthonys Church in San Francisco.

It must be stopped. What value system is that? I think its un-American. I think its un-American.

We think that families are the cornerstone of our society and our nation, and an immigration system should preserve those families, not destroy them, Gutierrez told FOX News Capitol Hill Producer Chad Pergram on Tuesday.

The congressman is collecting petitions that ask President Obama to stop the immigration raids and deportations that are tearing our marriages, families and children apart. He is expected to present those petitions when Hispanic members of Congress meet with the President Wednesday.

On Saturday night, Pelosi joined Gutierrez before a cheering crowd at St. Anthonys chanting, Si se puede, or Yes we can.

Referring to work site enforcement actions by ICE agents, Pelosi said, We have to have a change in policy and practice and again I cant say enough, the raids must end. The raids must end."

Yes, if we deport all of the illegals, who will work in Pelosi's vineyards? Maybe she would like to kick in for their health care which is bankrupting California. "

" From The American Thinker:

When asked how he would quell people's anger over the AIG bonuses, he dismissed the question:

Obama: "I don't want to quell anger, I want to channel it" to do constructive things.

This was at an impromptu news conference before his trip to Hollywood.

The historical record of charismatic leaders who heighten and channel anger is not very promising.

This philosophy is straight out of the Saul Alinsky textbook: how to rile up the masses.

This is why it is important to pry our President from the teleprompter. He reveals his true feelings and plans in off the cuff remarks.

As President he should realize that financial aid to the industry is crucial to help it right itself-and thus crucial to the American economy. Calmly explaining to the public what needs to be done is necessary to make it "safe" for Congress to extend such help.

Someone also asked him about the timeline: when did he know? He also dismissed that question as basically being a distraction. He clearly wants to obscure the fact that he and his people knew about these bonuses quite a while ago (as this ABC News report makes clear.
He knows how, as the New York Post wrote in an editorial today, to "Manufacture Outrage".

At least the Pres. had time to get his NCAA brackets filled out before prepping for his appearance on Leno. "

" No, Edward, the Bush administration began by inheriting a budget surplus. It ended behind closed doors with Congress, demanding nearly a trillion dollars in corporate welfare bailout money and threatening riots in the streets and the imposition of martial law within days.
In between, the Bush administration started an unprovoked war, doubled the national debt, spied on the American people, let New Orleans drown and turned the United States into a nation of torturers.
That's why Bush will be known as the worst president in history, and why students of the future will wonder aloud how anyone could possibly have been stupid enough to vote for him. And that's why the people who did will lie to their grandchildren, and tell them they didn't. "

A teleprompt blunder has led to Barack Obama thanking himself in a speech at the White House in a St Patrick's Day celebration.

Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen was just a few paragraphs into an address in Washington when he realised it all sounded a bit too familiar.

It was. He was repeating the speech President Barack Obama had just read from the same teleprompter.

Mr Cowen stopped, turned to the president and said: "That's your speech."

A laughing Mr Obama returned to the podium to take over but it seems the script had finally been switched and the US president ended up thanking himself for inviting everyone to the party.

Mr Obama is an accomplished orator but is becoming known in America as the "teleprompt president" over his reliance on the machine when he gives a speech."

by Bob Fitrakis

The mainstream media spent an entire week mythologizing Ronald Wilson Reagan. Why did the corporate for- profit media spend so much time creating a cult of personality around a former President with an estimated 105 IQ?

Reagan was a snitch during his Hollywood years. As Anthony Summers makes clear in his book Official and Confidential: The Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover, the Gipper had his own code name T-10 and regularly provided the FBI with information on Communists, real, imagined and manufactured. Victor Navaskys Naming Names documents as well how Reagan, then the head of the Screen Actors Guild, kept the FBI well informed about disloyal actors. During Reagans Moscow Summit, the President met with Russian students to discuss communism and capitalism. In a speech too simple to be included in Communism for Idiots, the President dusted off his old theoretical writings from Readers Digest and Boys Life and told the students why Marx was evil and unbridled capitalism good.

As his B-actor career faded, Reagan became a mouthpiece for General Electric, one of the worlds largest arms manufacturers. Reagans one clear talent was the ability to read a Teleprompter or memorize his lines on the glories of free enterprise....

What? Reagan, in addition to being a government snitch, used a teleprompter? Oh the shame.. "

Huffington post-

And to think this ethically challenged woman could have been a heartbeat away from the presidency. Shades of Spiro Agnew.... "

" Father Bob, please explain what BDD (AKA Dorothy) said about handicapped kids? I haven't seen anything to that reflect.

Also, BDD, since you're good at figuring out people, who am I? Where do I work? And where did I go to school? What's on JUDICI.com about me? I've heard you're a good psychi! "

" The budget the Obama administration has presented to the American people is a new type of budget: it expands our government in unprecedented ways and presents the largest tax increase in history. It raises total spending to $3.9 trillion in 2009, or 28 percent of gross domestic product, the highest level as a share of GDP since World War II.

In the next five years, the debt will double, and in 10 years, it will triple. This budget creates more debt than under every president from George Washington to George W. Bush combined the Obama administrations proposal is not a budget that the rest of America would recognize as a document for living within ones means. It simply spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. It is a game plan for an explosive expansion of the size and intrusiveness of the national government based on a belief that bureaucrats can more effectively manage large segments of our economy and our daily lives than the private sector or the individual. " Name Hidden I feel that was a well presented and nicely said post.
From a guy in the middle the things going on in our government are sure scary looking. I was honestly hoping for change. But what if any there has been is not very good at all. I feel Obama's inexperience of any kind is allowing people such as Pelosi and Reid to pull his strings like a puppet. We can only hope that as time passes he realizes that and cuts the strings, I think that is the only way Obama might make a change that might help. "

It looks like junior has no intentions of ceasing his harassing behavior in here. "

...I'm afraid BLUEDOG I can't cease anything until I know why you are hiding from this...Please dude I really want to understand why you can criticize me when I give you info but you can't give us any info even that which doesn't come with any risks other than that of being criticized in return, are you a coward or are you hiding something, that is what I want to know and after that I would gladly quit blogging all together if thats what everyone wants "

How do YOU know what I'm risking kid?

You have yet to establish a career or even a home of your own, so you have nothing to lose.

I have a considerable amount, so I have everything to lose.

Will YOU be there when the unforeseen consequences start to unfold?

No you won't.

So now you're chasing ME around on 6 different threads and spewing this same line.

And why?

Revenge.

Go ahead, admit it. "

" OK Name Hidden,

No one wants to talk about Bush's RECORD 459 billion dollar deficit. You must have been listening to FOX news or Limbaugh and Hannity. They are making such a big issue about another trillion or so. Besides, the federal government can just print more money to cover it, DUH. Obama will quickly make the money back by ending the war in Iraq like he promised. "

...I don't know what you're risking because you have no courage to tell people and it isn't because of the risk, I know your kind just from reading your posts, it is because of a risk but simply the risk of being made fun of, you can't handle that kind of bullying that you dished out, I want to know about these unforseen risks lol, what someone might realize who the rude blogger is on here and set out to clean her clock, maybe but I highly doubt it, perhaps if you didn't bully on here you wouldn't fear people verbally attacking you, and by the way it isn't revenge, it is about me exposing you for the phony you have made yourself out to be, I am happy with the outcome of this, thanks for being talk and no walk, fear will ruin you if you let it "

" Talk about big spending and out right lies read this.>"New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said Monday that 15 employees who received some of the largest bonuses from AIG have agreed to return them in full, totaling about $50 million." Lets add this up, there was 20 bonuses that totaled $165 million. 15 of those or 3/4 have gave it back, $50 million. Now in my calculations $50 million is no where close to 3/4 of $165 million. So I highly doubt that many of the largest bonuses was gave back. "
