Second man arrested in Charleston apartment robbery

Late Thursday evening police arrested the second of two suspects in connection with an armed robbery earlier this week at a Fourth Street apartment.

Detective Sgt. Chad Reed of the Charleston Police Department said the second suspect, Andrew S. Maisonneuve, 20, of Kankakee, was apprehended at 10:30 p.m. on the east side of Eastern Illinois University’s Old Main after a brief foot pursuit.

Reed said Charleston police were assisted by officers from the EIU Police Department and the Coles County Sheriff’s Department. He said both Maisonneuve and the first suspect, Derek B. Mitchel, 19, 319 Thomas Hall on campus, are in the custody at the Coles County jail.

Eastern police arrested Mitchel early Thursday evening shortly after Charleston Police issued arrest warrants for the two mebs on charges related to the armed robbery.

The robbery occurred at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday at 950 Fourth St., Apt. 17. Two men entered the apartment, displayed a handgun, and took video game systems and games from the lone male occupant, according to police.
