Missionaries serving Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Charleston and Mattoon is encouraging people to get to know the missionaries who are currently serving in the area.

Currently serving in Charleston are elder Rosequist and elder Taylor, who were called to the Illinois Peoria mission for their two years of service. Their mission covers most of central Illinois and a small portion of Missouri, Iowa and Indiana.

Nineteen-year-old Rosequist is from Las Vegas, has been serving for approximately three months. He was doing a finish carpentry internship before his mission. Twenty-year-old Taylor is from Kaysville, Utah, has been serving approximately eight months. Previously, he was studying business at Utah State University.

They have been in Charleston for the last 11 weeks, teaching the gospel and offering assistance wherever they are able.

Missionaries currently serving in Mattoon are sister Witt and sister Montgomery, who are also called to the Illinois Peoria Mission for their 18 months of service.

Witt is 22 years old, has been serving for about 17 months, and is from Fresno, Calif. She was previously studying health science at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

Montgomery is 21 years old and is from Ogden, Utah. She has been serving for about eight months and was previously studying social studies education also at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

An opportunity to meet these young men and women is each Sunday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (7426 Country Club Rd) in Mattoon at 9:30 a.m. Those who are interested in learning more may contact them at 317-1493 in the Mattoon area, and at 512-9583 in the Charleston area.

The church calls missionaries, on a voluntary, temporary basis. They invite single men from the ages of 19 to 26 to serve for two years, single women 21 years and older for a year and a half. Retired married couples also have the same opportunity if they have no dependent children and are available to serve anywhere in the country or the world.

A letter calling the missionary or couple to a specific mission, bearing the signature of the President of the Church, is sent asking them to put their lives on hold and maintain high standards of conduct and appearance by living the commandments and following mission rules.
