LETTER: 'Honor among thieves' is a lesson learned

BARBARA PEPPO, Westfield

Finally, I have discovered there is honor among thieves. I didn’t believe it before, but now I do.

The price of oil is continuing to go down, the prices for farmers are going down, the housing market is way down, but the price of groceries, gasoline and medicines are all rising at a fast rate.

Guess who the thieves are?

BARBARA PEPPO

" Barbara, if you think the prices of groceries and gasoline and medicines are bad, wait till you get the bill from the State of Illinois for your share of the $9-billion deficit - or worse, wait till you get the bill for Obama's multi-trillion deficit!

But, could we cut costs in Springfield or DC? Oh no! Just raise more revenue. Spend our way into prosperity!

I can't wait till we hear from the O-man that because all of us comrades are in a crisis mode, we must remove term limits - immediately. "

I never heard one policy statement from Obama in the two year campaign, or since his term began, that I agree with, but that doesn't mean I hate the man. In fact, I sympathize with him. He's in the most powerful position in the world, and so far, he's proving himself to be totally inept.

In a way, I love the guy for trying. How are you going to break the news to him that he's destined to become the most unpopular one-term president in history, even worse than Carter? "

Sorry to inform you of this Tom, but if you watched anything other than Fox news you would know that several polls taken with historians have said that your political hero Bush ranks near the bottom. So even if Obama ranked lower than Carter he would still be ahead of Bush by several presidents.

And please don't try pulling a Sean Hannity act in trying to deny your worship of Bush. After carrying water for him on this site for months, that won't sell.

Once again, your boast of watching only Fox news has done you in, my friend. You need to broaden your horizons beyond Fox news and that list of radical right wingers you cited a whole back. An informed person looks at issues from both sides. When you rely on getting all of your information from only one point of view, either liberal or conservative that information becomes nothing more than propaganda. "

Buffett Says Economy Will Be In Shambles for 2009

By Rick Levinson

Feb. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Billionaire Warren Buffett said the economy will be in shambles for the rest of this year as financial firms take losses tied to reckless loans made during the housing boom.

The Standard & Poors 500 Index will probably gain in three-quarters of the next 44 years, just as it did in the period since Buffett took over Berkshire Hathaway Inc. in 1965, he said today in his annual letter to the companys shareholders.

While Buffett and business partner Charlie Munger cant predict how stocks will perform in 2009, theyre certain that the economy will be in shambles throughout 2009 -- and, for that matter, probably well beyond, he wrote. "

AIG May Get an Additional $30 Billion in Capital From U.S.

By Hugh Son and Rebecca Christie

March 1 (Bloomberg) -- American International Group Inc. may get a commitment of as much as $30 billion in additional capital from the U.S. to stave off collapse after a fifth straight quarterly loss, two people familiar with the matter said.

The New York-based insurer may also get relaxed terms on its loans from the U.S. government, said the people, who declined to be identified because there was no public announcement. Isaac Baker, a spokesman for the Treasury, declined to comment.

AIG got an expanded $150 billion rescue from the U.S. in November.

AIG has lost $4 billion in net worth in a matter of months due to poor management, yet our SCUMBAG-N-CHIEF OBAMA wants to keep giving it the taxpayers money to waste.

And for the leader of the Republicans? A man who is aggressive and bombastic, cutting and sarcastic, who dismisses the concerned citizens in network news focus groups as losers. With his private plane and his cigars, his history of drug dependency and his personal bulk, not to mention his tangled marital history, Rush is a walking stereotype of self-indulgence exactly the image that Barack Obama most wants to affix to our philosophy and our party. And were cooperating! Those images of crowds of CPACers cheering Rushs every rancorous word well be seeing them rebroadcast for a long time.

Rush knows what he is doing. The worse conservatives do, the more important Rush becomes as leader of the ardent remnant. The better conservatives succeed, the more we become a broad national governing coalition, the more Rush will be sidelined.

But do the rest of us understand what we are doing to ourselves by accepting this leadership? Rush is to the Republicanism of the 2000s what Jesse Jackson was to the Democratic party in the 1980s. He plays an important role in our coalition, and of course he and his supporters have to be treated with respect. But he cannot be allowed to be the public face of the enterprise and we have to find ways of assuring the public that he is just one Republican voice among many, and very far from the most important.

****

I have to wonder if Mr Frum really doesn't understand Limbaugh enormous ego. Limbaugh sees this as his day to seize, and seize he will.

Looks like the battle lines are being drawn. I'm putting my money on the anti-Rush side side of the Republican party. Not only is that party in total disarray, it looks like they might be splintering into two factions. "

What is even sadder, I haven't heard any of you defending the economic policies of the CURRENT administration. In case you haven't noticed, we are in a bad recession. Now, you can spend all day long trying to worry about whose fault it is, but we are here, so it really doesn't matter. Throughout our history, we have had recessions and we will have them again. Anyway, now is NOT the time to be expanding social programs in health care, the environment, and other things. Not that none of that is important, but the provisions do not need to be tacked on to a stimulus bill, or forced on us when we are already trillions over our head. This spending is unprecedented. President Obama, with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, marked the agency's 160th birthday Tuesday.

The regulation, issued a few weeks before George W. Bush left office, made it easier for federal agencies to skip consultations with government scientists before launching projects that could affect endangered wildlife.

By overturning the regulation, Obama said during an enthusiastic reception at the Interior Department, he had restored "the scientific process to its rightful place at the heart of the Endangered Species Act, a process undermined by past administrations."

So do you agree that Iraq was a success, Harry? "

He opposed every facet of it, and even said the surge would never work, and predicted the sectarian violence would never reach a peaceful conclusion.

So you see, Harry, not only does Obama share absolutely NO CREDIT for the success in Iraq; he's actually done a COMPLETE FLIP-FLOP on his rhetoric about Iraq from three short months ago.

You really are slow aren't you Harry. LOL! "

At the risk of getting some non-sensical reply from you, I hate to break it to you but, the withdraw timeline was due to negotiations made by Bush with the Iraqis and not any negotiations made by the LIAR-N-THIEF Obama....

Oh but I know...that fact doesn't really matter does it? "

Obama's winding down the war? Is that why he's leaving 50,000 troops there well into 2011.....and beyond, genius? "

I can't believe that everyone is ok with the fact that mere months ago, Obama promised to veto earmarks and "go through the budget line by line" and he has already thrown all that out the window. At least some of the Democratic senators are displaying a conscious and voting against it. "

Rahm isn't devoting anything to it, Edward. He just made a single clever remark that has the Republicans clawing at each others' throats and then crawling to apologize in a kind of a craven, unmanly way.
Enjoy. I certainly am. "

Indeed. Harry, there are days when this site seems to consist MOSTLY of "conversations" between his sock puppets. One can hardly go anywhere without stepping in his droppings. "

" From the web

Americans seem confused that Barack Obama is taking step after step that sends the stock market plunging ever lower and our Republic careening toward financial ruin. It confuses them, that this gifted orator would institute policies so obviously flawed. They have it in their hearts and heads that this President would want to stop the recession.

But why would he? Ever significant mentor Barack Obama has ever had, from Frank Marshall Davis to Saul Alinsky to Bill Ayers to Jeremiah Wright, has been driven by the thought of punishing America, of ripping it apart and reforging it to their liking.

Should it be any surprise at all than a man so shaped would function exactly as he was led?

The more Barack Obama can wreck the economy, the more he can turn individualsand some statesinto destitute big government dependents. As his Chief of Staff noted, they have every intention of seizing the opportunity that comes with this financial crisis.

Sadly, for all those poor souls who thought gifted teleprompter reading skills made the most radical liberal and least experienced Senator competent to be President, it is forcing them into dependency that he needs more than their goodwill. Its only going to get worse folks, and it's going to get worse by design. "

Your post regarding his mentors is compelling, and of course based on FACTS. This will make Potter very mad and drive him to more silly Limbaugh insults..

It would be nice AND compelling if Potter would enlighten us on Obama's mentors mentioned....maybe we just don't understand the friendships and loyalties of this.....man? "

lol sorry I didn't keep a log of your stupidity BBD, it was fairly simple, you called yourself an uneducated man and then claimed you had gone to college but then refused to give details like a dog with no bite, liars are sad sad people BBD "
