LETTER: Obama appoints his own 'good ole boys'

BILL OGLE, Ashmore

It is not too early to start the proceedings. Obama has broken several of his 510 campaign promises to the American people.

He was going to clean up Washington politics, remember, “change you can believe in.” His idea of cleaning up the “good ole boys” type of politics went by the wayside shortly after he was inaugurated.

His appointment of Bill Richardson, Gov. of New Mexico, fell through when it came to light that he was under investigation for “pay to play” in New Mexico politics.

Yes, the same thing former Gov. Blago got impeached for and is about to go to the pen for criminal violation of federal laws. Then there were three appointments made where the appointees were guilty of not paying federal income taxes.

One of those appointees was actually confirmed by the Democrat-controlled Senate to be Sec. of the Treasury. The others were sent home packing, Tom Daschle, Mrs. Firelee, and another no name.

During the confirmation process of Tom Daschle, Pres. Obama said he strongly supported him. Days later when the Senate sent ole Tom home, Pres. Obama admitted he had made a gross error. If this is cleaning up corrupt politics in Washington, then lets impeach Obama now and really clean up the corruption.

You all remember Rod Blago, impeached for his corrupt politics. It’s no wonder; he came out of the Chicago Democrat Political Machine, thanks to all you liberal Democrats for giving Illinois such a corrupt governor. Now you have elected another corrupt Chicago Democrat Political Machine politician, Barack Obama.

BILL OGLE

" Gee Harry. You are now comparing Obama to Bush. Obama was supposed to be the answer to all the problems. "The chosen one" was going to bring that wonderful change. But we got Clinton retreads, 37 of his first 41 appointees. After saying in the primaries that the Clintons and their policies were wrong and wouldn't work, why would he bring in the same people that helped implement those wrong policies. And then he appoints Hillary secretary of state. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense now does it? "

" Gee Harry I guess you didn't listen closely to the messiah when he was campaigning in the primaries. He repeatedly bashed the Clintons and their policies. He said it was time for a CHANGE. Change you can believe in? Right. That meant no more Bush, but it also meant no more Clinton. To name all those people to his staff that he castigated and then most of all to put Hillary in as secretary of state. He either lied or he's not too bright. If I had voted for Obama based on the promises he made while running for office, I would feel betrayed. I remember you ranting and raving about how the Clintons weren't right, but Obama was. You are just as big a hypocrite as he is. Or did they put something different in your kool aid last time you took a gulp. "

" One of the major accomplishments of the 1990s combination of President Clinton and a Gingrich-led Republican Congress was that of welfare reform. Some may argue that it was Clinton's plan. Others would say that the Republicans forced him to do it.

Regardless of where the credit ends up, the notion and structure of the welfare program was fundamentally changed. Now, through Obama's stimulus plan, all that work and effort may be wasted. "

Harry Potter wrote on Feb 15, 2009 8:01 PM:

" I'll bet Obama is the first person to ever run for president that said anything that was just campaign rhetoric, huh? I suppose you never watched the Republicans go after each other in their debates, jw. Obviously Obama was the better candidate jw, but why are you holding him to higher standard than you probably would have the other guy, if he had won? Do you really think McCain would have turned his back on all of those who supported his opposition in the primaries. If you really think that, you must be more naive than I think you are.

You, or no one had taken up my challenge to compare the results from the Clinton team with the Bush team. Why is that, jw?

Despite Clinton's moral shortcomings, his team ran circles around the Bush bunch, and you know it.

Yeah, Obama inherited a nation with no problems right? Compare that with what Bush got. "

It doesn't matter. Obama won. McCain is irrelevant. Obama lied to us about keeping out lobbyists and Washington insiders. His whole "change" rhetoric got him in the Whitehouse. That's all he wanted.

"You, or no one had taken up my challenge to compare the results from the Clinton team with the Bush team. Why is that?"

Because Bush and Clinton are gone. Why can't YOU take up the challenge to defend the Multi-Generational Financial Rape Act of 2009? "

No one has. 60 thousand dollars a hour and cheddar cheese burgers at 30 thousand feet in Air Force One is fun. The limousine that comes along and the huge entourage to run the show add to the cost. Two weeks in Obama needed a rest at Camp David. Lets get serious here. We are in dire straits and the article pushes more rest and recreation for Obama who has appointed people from the IRS most wanted list, and unqualified inexperienced people to important offices such as CIA Director?
The White House is a great hotel, with a gym and grounds to run on. Let Obama stop campaigning and go to work. "

Guess that was just more 'campaign rhetoric' on Obama's part? And where is the outrage? Not in office a month and the president is home in Chicago for a 4-day weekend. Shall we start counting how often he is out of the White House just like Bush haters made a big, stupid deal out of Bush going home to Crawford? A dumb argument if there ever was one. When you're President you don't escape by going home but I doubt that will hear any criticism whatsoever of the current holder of the office. Not from this media. "

Add the time spent at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David and at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003. That's 27% of his presidency spent on vacation.

President Obama has to take a lot of time off if he hopes to catch up with the Beetle Bailey style of George Bush. "

PROMISES, PROMISES

Soaring expectations collide with harsh political realities. How Barack Obama looks from Chicagoland.

(From the magazine issue dated Feb 23 2009)

"It is in the nature of politicians to make promises; it is what they do. Some do so without the least intention of delivering on their promises. Some fully intend to deliver, but find the world obdurate, unwilling to go along with their fine intentions. Barack Obama now finds himself among the latter. With loony jihadists threatening from without, a crumbling economy terrorizing its citizens from within, Obama knew he needed straightaway to demonstrate utmost competence to stem fear and instill confidence. The reason for his wanting to assemble an able cabinet more quickly than any other administration in recent history was to show that, though the nation had major problems, they were under study and would soon be attacked by the most capable minds of our time. He needed to calm the country down, and show, in a measured but forceful way, that a strong hand was at the wheel.

This he has thus far failed abysmally to do. Very disappointing, to the country at large, and not least, I have no doubt, to Barack Obama himself."

OK. How about they kicked out Bush, Cheney and the gang when it was learned that they wanted to conquer the world using the US military in order to establish Pax Americana and yet the republican right took them right in and paved their way leading to the demise of the GOP? How about they were the first to have a woman and a black man both as candidates for president. How about they want to change the private health insurance industry to single payer insurance so all can be covered medically in this country. How about they actually balance budgets, don't promote violence towards the right wingers and believe that you can be strong and tolerant of other views at the same time.

Right wing pundits are always calling Obama "the messiah" or "the chosen one". The left doesn't call him either. And, no, I'm not at all happy with many of his decisions but like I keep saying, he's only been in office ONE MONTH! How much change can you see in ONE MONTH! I don't want any more gun control laws and I really didn't want EITHER the bank bail out or the stimulus bill but I'm stuck with both of those decisions now.

I have a question for all of you right wingers. Why was it different for Bush to legislate $800 billion for banks and Wall street and Obama to legislate his own $800 billion for main street? I really don't see a difference between the 2.

Oh, I forgot. This was supposed to be a short post....my bad. "

Absolutely hilarious!

After 8 years of Republican control and spending money like drunken sailors, they have found their fiscal compass. This "new" attitude alone shows what hypocrites some Republicans are.

I saw a report on TV last night about how some Republican House members (who ALL voted against the stimulus package) are going back to their districts and trying to take credit for money that has been designated for their districts. Sources close to Cheney told the Daily News the former vice president repeatedly pressed Bush to pardon Libby, arguing his ex-chief of staff and longtime alter ego deserved a full exoneration - even though Bush had already kept Libby out of jail by commuting his 30-month prison sentence.

I wonder if you would call Libby a "good old boy"?

We should not be surprised that Cheney is upset over Bushes refusal to pardon the convicted criminal, Libby.

Perhaps Bush was merely getting back at Cheney for his conning him into going into Iraq.

Just like in the Oliver North cover up for Reagan, we may never know the truth.

I suspect Cheney owes Libby quite a debt for covering up for him. With Cheney's millions from his war machine investments, I don't think Libby has to worry about working again. "

Compelled to make it public as a condition of his wife's appointment as secretary of state, it becomes clear that the list is a virtual encyclopedia of conflicts of interest for the husband of a senator, to say nothing of the husband of an incoming secretary of state.

Particularly troubling are the massive donations from Arab governments in the Middle East. How can a secretary of state possibly be impartial in conflicts involving Israel when her husband has gotten tens of millions of dollars from Arabian governments and high-ranking people. Specifically, Clinton got:

Between $10 million and $25 million from:

-- The government of Saudi Arabia

Between $1 million and $5 million from:

-- Friends of Saudi Arabia

-- The Dubai Foundation

-- Saudi businessman Nasser Al-Rashid

-- Saudi tycoon Sheikh Mohammed H. Al-Amoudi

-- Former Lebanon Deputy Prime Minister Issam Fares

-- The government of Kuwait

-- The government of Qatar

-- The government of Oman

-- The government of Brunei

-- The Zayed Family, rulers of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates

-- He also received between $500,000 and $1 million from Saudi businessman Walid Juffali.

Pardon us for looking such generous gift horses in the mouth, but it is hard to imagine so many governments, monarchs and businessmen in the Middle East giving money unless it was with some hope of a political return on their investment. Will that return now come with the appointment of Mrs. Clinton as secretary of state?

After all, the next secretary of state will be called upon to mediate and negotiate conflicts in the Middle East as her first assignment. How can Hillary Clinton undertake to do so impartially when her husband's library and foundation -- over which he has total control -- have been bankrolled by the very nations with whom she must negotiate?

The list reveals another key center of conflicts of interest in Kazakhstan, the former Soviet Republic, now home to some of the world's greatest mineral deposits and ruled by a corrupt dictator, Nursultan A. Nazarbayev, who according to The New York Times has all but quashed political dissent."

Clinton visited Kazakhstan and met with its president on Sept. 6, 2005, accompanied by Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra. Soon after, Giustra was awarded a highly lucrative contract to mine uranium there. Now, lo and behold, Giustra turns up having given the library and foundation $10 million to $25 million and the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative-Canada gave $1 million to $5 million more. And Clinton got $1 million to $5 million from Laksmi Mittal, the fourth wealthiest person on the Forbes billionaire list and a member of the Foreign Investment Council in Kazakhstan.

In addition, Clinton further fished in troubled waters by taking $1 million to $5 million from Victor Pinchuk, the son-in-law of the controversial former president of Ukraine.

Given the complexities of U.S. policy toward the former Soviet republics in Central Asia, it is hard to see how this massive and incestuous relationship cannot but complicate Hillary's independence.

One of the largest donors to the library and foundation was UNITAID, an international organization largely controlled by France, which donated more than $25 million. And the conflicts of interest are not all just foreign. Corporate bailout recipients and wanna-be recipients donated to the Clinton fund. They include: AIG, Lehman, Merrill, the Citi Foundation and General Motors.

And, almost as an afterthought, the list reveals a donation of at least $450,000 from Denise Rich, presumably in return for her ex-husband's presidential pardon.

How could a United States Senator possibly serve dispassionately while her husband was collecting money from these donors on this scale? And how could we have almost elected a president without realizing these conflicts existed? And how can a secretary of state function with these conflicts hanging over her head?

But when you're putting tax cheats and liars in your administration, what difference does all this make? "

The Clintons Saudi fundraisers:

MSNBC Dec 18 2008 - Former President Bill Clintons foundation has raised at least $41 million from Saudi Arabia and other foreign governments that his wife Hillary Rodham Clinton may end up negotiating with as the next secretary of state.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gave $10 million to $25 million to the William J. Clinton Foundation, a nonprofit created by the former president to finance his library in Little Rock, Ark., and charitable efforts to reduce poverty and treat AIDS. Other foreign government givers include Norway, Kuwait, Qatar, Brunei, Oman, Italy and Jamaica.

The foundation disclosed the names of its 205,000 donors on a Web site Thursday, ending a decade of resistance to identifying the sources of its money. While the list is heavy with international business leaders and billionaires, some 12,000 donors gave $10 or less.

Alaska Says Palin Owes Tax on Expense Payments

Palin received $16,951 in per diem payments, which are intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business, The Washington Post reported in September. Even though she was staying in her home in Wasilla, Alaska, she claimed the expense money because she was away from her official "duty station" in Juneau, the state capital.

Would the governor, a smiling Stevens asked, like to share some of her plans and proposals for the coming legislative session?

Palin looked around the room and paused, according to several senators present. "I feel like you guys are always trying to put me on the spot," she said finally, as the room became silent.

While California is running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to figure out what to do about their budget crisis, the media is ignoring the fact that Alaska is in solid financial shape to weather the economic storm. The media doesn't want you to notice that inconvenient truth. While California is handing out IOU's instead of earned tax refunds, Alaska is able to assure its people that they have billions tucked away for a rainy day to help them survive for at least 2 years if the economy collapsed. If only California remembered that the money they have is not theirs, it's OURS. Then perhaps they wouldn't have spent it so recklessly. If they realized (like Sarah Palin and Alaska did) that they need to be careful with OUR money because we are their boss then perhaps California wouldn't be in line waiting for a handout from the Federal bailout/stimulus bonanza happening right now. But Ed Miller...that's what "community organizers" do. Don't you remember a certain "community organizer's" guest appearance in Decatur a few years back?

With his flying to Colorado and everywhere lately, it's just Obama doing what he's always done....talking big, letting everybody else (especially Dufus Reid and Shroud of Turin-face Pelosi) do the dirty work, and then jetting off to go play basketball with never the less the wear and tear upon his soul.

These democrat "organizers" flit around to their "communities", wasting other people's money to get there, and then when there, they take on "the messiah role" talking arrogantly, smugly, and in grandiose terms telling their peeps how "they can do it, they have the power, and not to not let the "man" put them down". We've seen this for 2 years now on the campaign trail...the ploy is pretty recognizable by now...

Then they leave, after riling everybody up, yet providing no direction while allowing others to do all their dirty work.

"The democrat machine", just like with how the Chicago democrat political machine works, then insulates him from scorn while they perpetuate their power grab bamboozles upon the American public.

Same old, same old.... so don't expect anything more....especially with anything like....leadership.... "
