Charleston Chamber of Commerce dinner, awards to be Jan. 24

CHARLESTON — The community is invited to “Celebrate Charleston” with the Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce at their Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Jan. 24.

The Chamber is now taking reservations for the event which will feature a social hour, slide show highlighting local businesses, buffet, cash bar and silent auction.

The Grand Ballroom of the University Union at Eastern Illinois University will be decorated to showcase the “Buy Local” awareness campaign. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour and slide show on the large screen on the stage highlighting people, places and businesses in our community.

Jennifer Ketchmark from the Morning Show on WCIA-TV Channel 3 and alumna of Eastern will be the mistress of ceremonies for the evening.

The annual meeting portion of the program, including the passing of the gavel, a short retrospective on the chamber’s past year and a look to 2009 for the organization will take place immediately after the social hour. A buffet style dinner will feature breaded chicken breast, beef pot roast, coconut shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes, buttered corn, fettuccini alfredo, spinach salad, fruit salad, and layer cakes.

After dinner, the program culminates with the presentation of awards. The Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award will be presented to Sheryl Snyder while Towne Square Jewelers will be honored as the Small Business of the Year. The Diplomat of the Year will also be announced.

Snyder is director of the Charleston Carnegie Public Library.

A Silent Auction and Member Showcase will be part of the evening’s events again this year and will be open throughout the evening. Silent Auction donations from Chamber members are now being solicited. Call the Chamber office at 345-7041 to contribute something. All items are marked with the donor’s name offering a great way to showcase a business or service.

Businesses can also choose to sponsor a Corporate Table and receive special recognition. Corporate sponsors get a complimentary bottle of wine at their table, special designation in the printed program and prominent display of their company logo at the event. Corporate sponsorships are available for tables of 8 ($400), tables of 10 ($500) or tables of 12 ($600).

Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased by coming to the Chamber office at 501 Jackson Avenue or calling 345-7041. Seating arrangements are 8, 10, or 12 persons per table.

The deadline for reservations is 4 p.m. Jan. 16. Seating is limited.
