Center chooses new administrator

CHARLESTON — Petersen Health Care officials announced the addition of Araceli “Racel” Henson, of Charleston as the administrator of Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, according to a company press release.

Henson worked in a variety of clinical settings in the past 38 years and has more than 20 years of experience as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator working with local physicians, residents, families and co-workers.

Coming to Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Henson brings her philosophy to treat the residents who are entrusted to the center’s care equally, with dignity, compassion and respect regardless of the resident’s social-economic status, color of skin, religion and beliefs.

In her new role with Petersen Health Care, she will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She said she is excited about the opportunity to provide quality patient care and a homelike environment for Charleston RHCC residents.

Henson obtained her education in the Philippines where she was born, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in 1975. She came to the U.S on a work visa as Registered Nurse in 1979.

Prior to coming to the U.S., she was a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse at the Philippine Heart Center for Asia; and also was a clinical nurse instructor for a college of nursing in one of the nursing schools in the Philippines.

Henson and her husband, Monty, have been married for 27 years and have two children, Jeremy and Allyson.

Sue Shumway, Petersen Health Care regional community relations coordinator said, “We are very excited to add someone with Mrs. Henson’s energy, experience, and positive outlook to our Petersen Health Care family.

“Mrs. Henson has a resident care-based philosophy that our beloved residents, their families, and our staff are really going to appreciate. We are very fortunate she decided to join our great team.”

Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center is a member of Petersen Health Care, the Midwest’s leading long-term care provider. The company, based out of Peoria, was founded in 1974 and is an active supporter of each of the communities in which it serves, the firm’s press release indicated.
