Curl up with a good book by the fire at the library

Can you believe it? The year 2009 is just around the corner and it’s shaping up to be an historic year already, especially here in Illinois.

Just keep in mind, if you need to get away from the headlines and escape for a few hours, the Charleston Carnegie Public Library is the place to do just that. Find a good book, sit back in a cushy chair by the fire, sip a cup of tea and read.

OK, once you’re in that escape mode, consider signing up for our adult winter book club — Books to the Big Screen! Sign-up will start on Jan. 15. Books, movies, popcorn and prizes, who could ask for more?

Now I hate bringing up that other thing that happens every January, but it just can’t be helped. It’s something from which no one gets to escape — taxes and the forms to file them.

As we do every year, tax forms will be available Jan. 1, as they trickle in from the government. The forms will be located on the second floor by the adult computers.

The information desk is right there, too, and the staff can help you find the forms you need. If they aren’t on the shelf, they can check online also and print them out.

The library will be closed on Thursday. Have a safe and Happy New Year.

Here’s what’s happening in January in the KidSpace:

Jan. 15, Super Thursday, Spinning Yarns, 3:30-4:30 p.m., ages 5-11.

Jan. 19, Inaugural Ball, 2-3 p.m., ages 5-11.

Jan. 21, Make and Take Crafts, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., all ages with an adult.

Jan. 22, Dads & Sons Book Club, 6:30-7:30 p.m., ages 9-13.

Jan. 26, Registration begins for preschool and toddler story hours.

Jan. 27, Mother-Daughter Book Club, 6:30-7:30 p.m., ages 9-13.
